After Becoming the Abused Heroine in a Campus Story - Chapter 80 Because I Like You
Chapter 80 Because I Like You
Zhou Yining swallowed a few times, her gaze repeatedly lingered on Jiang Xianzhi’s lips.
After a while, she forced herself to look away. Zhou Yining took a deep breath, leaned down, and gently kissed Jiang Xianzhi’s forehead. She quickly pulled back.
Jiang Xianzhi felt Zhou Yining kiss her forehead. She felt shy but also happy. She raised her eyes to look at Zhou Yining, and as their gazes met, she found herself lost in Zhou Yining’s dark eyes.
For some reason, Jiang Xianzhi’s heartbeat quickened. She had never seen Zhou Yining like this before and felt a bit panicked. “Zhou Zhou, what’s wrong? Why do you look at me like that?”
Zhou Yining’s gaze fell on the girl’s lips, then moved to her eyes. “Don’t you understand yet?”
Jiang Xianzhi instinctively shook her head. “Understand what? What does this have to do with you distancing yourself from me?”
Looking at the clueless young lady beneath her, Zhou Yining’s fleeting romantic thoughts faded significantly. She sighed, leaned down again, and lightly kissed the corner of Jiang Xianzhi’s lips. Then she looked up at Jiang Xianzhi.
“It’s like this. I like you, not the kind of like between ordinary friends. Do you understand?” Zhou Yining looked at Jiang Xianzhi, her arms propped on the bed, waiting for Jiang Xianzhi’s response.
She wasn’t kissing Jiang Xianzhi without consent. Zhou Yining was 95% sure Jiang Xianzhi liked her too. The remaining 5% was because the young lady hadn’t yet opened the door to this new world and might need a little time to process.
As expected, Jiang Xianzhi was stunned by these words. Her mind seemed to short-circuit, and she just stared at Zhou Yining.
Zhou Zhou said she liked her and even kissed the corner of her lips?
Jiang Xianzhi’s ears and cheeks visibly reddened. After a long pause, she managed to say, “But, but I never thought about it that way.”
Zhou Yining got up from her, nodding slightly at Jiang Xianzhi. “Hmm, I know. That’s why you need some time to process. The reason I distanced myself recently is because of this. I was afraid I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to kiss you or get close to you.”
Hearing Zhou Yining say this so bluntly, Jiang Xianzhi’s entire face turned red. She flipped over and buried herself in the blankets, blushing with embarrassment.
Zhou Zhou liked her and wanted to kiss her. The more she thought about it, the shyer she felt. Her face grew redder, and even her neck flushed scarlet.
This feeling was strange. She had never liked a girl before, but she didn’t dislike this feeling. In fact, because Zhou Yining liked her, Jiang Xianzhi felt a bit happy, though her heart was in turmoil.
Seeing her like this, Zhou Yining knew she was processing. She said casually, “Why don’t you stay here for a bit? I’ll go downstairs to get something to drink.”
Jiang Xianzhi lay on the bed without speaking. Zhou Yining chuckled, shook her head, and left the room.
She closed the door for Jiang Xianzhi, then went downstairs to the dining room and got a glass of water.
Seeing her come down, Jiang Yueyi walked over and asked, “How’s it going? Did you cheer her up?”
“I sort of cheered her up. I told her I like her. She probably needs some time to process.” Zhou Yining said honestly.
“Didn’t you say you wouldn’t tell her yet?” Jiang Yueyi asked.
“Hmm, that was my plan before, but it’s not good to keep having misunderstandings over this, so I just told her.” Zhou Yining said, then took a few sips of water.
Jiang Yueyi glanced upstairs and asked, “What did Zhizhi say?”
Zhou Yining shook her head. “She didn’t say anything. She’s probably shy. Let her process a bit.”
Jiang Yueyi looked at Zhou Yining curiously. “You’re awfully calm. Aren’t you afraid my Zhizhi doesn’t like you and just sees you as a regular friend?”
Zhou Yining smiled and shook her head. “She likes me. I can feel it.”
Jiang Yueyi rubbed the goosebumps on her arms and teased Zhou Yining. “Are kids these days all so confident?”
Zhou Yining smiled at her. “Hmm.”
Jiang Yueyi shook her head speechlessly. “Fine, just make sure you cheer her up before lunch.”
“Okay, I’ll go back up in a bit.” Zhou Yining said, finishing the water in her glass.
She took a new glass and poured some warm water, then headed upstairs.
In the room, after Zhou Yining left, Jiang Xianzhi happily rolled on the bed several times. The girl touched the corner of her lips where Zhou Yining had kissed her.
Thinking about it, Jiang Xianzhi felt her heart racing like countless little deer were colliding inside, sweet as if honey were seeping out.
She hummed and rolled in the blankets a few more times, unsure what to do.
Hearing footsteps outside, the little fox panicked and could only lie on the bed.
When Zhou Yining pushed the door open with the glass, she saw this scene. Her lips curved slightly. She placed the warm water on the nearby cabinet, sat on the bed’s edge, and said softly, “Are you thirsty? Want to sit up and drink some water?”
The young lady lay on the bed without moving.
Zhou Yining continued softly, “What’s wrong? Was my confession that scary? Are you ignoring me? Or do you not like me?”
The young lady on the bed still lay there without moving.
Zhou Yining chuckled and shook her head. She propped one hand on the soft bed behind her, her gaze fixed on Jiang Xianzhi.
“Fine, if you don’t like me, then after the National Day holiday ends, I’ll have to go back to school and chase other girls.”
“You dare!” Jiang Xianzhi shot up from the bed.
Zhou Yining was amused by the young lady’s reaction, then met Jiang Xianzhi’s furious eyes.
“I was joking, Zhizhi. Don’t be mad.” Zhou Yining quickly coaxed her softly.
But Jiang Xianzhi felt a sourness in her heart. She looked at Zhou Yining. “I knew something was off with you. No wonder you’re so nice to the girls in your class. There must be someone you like in there, right?”
Zhou Yining felt a headache coming on. “There really isn’t. I was joking with you. With my classmates, it’s just pure friendship. You’re the only one I like.”
Hearing Zhou Yining say she liked her again, Jiang Xianzhi proudly tilted her head, though her ears were bright red, looking utterly adorable.
Zhou Yining leaned closer to Jiang Xianzhi and said softly, “Don’t be mad, okay? Want a hug?”
Jiang Xianzhi suddenly felt shy. Before, hugging never meant anything else, but now, it seemed she also liked Zhou Yining. Hugging felt quite embarrassing.
Zhou Yining opened her arms. Seeing Jiang Xianzhi hadn’t moved for a while, she said softly, “Can’t even hug you? Looks like you don’t like me.”
Zhou Yining deliberately lowered her eyes, pretending to be hurt. She glanced at Jiang Xianzhi with a wronged expression. “If that’s the case, I’ll just leave.”
Hearing she was leaving, Jiang Xianzhi hurriedly hugged Zhou Yining from behind. “Where are you going?”
“You don’t like me, so I’m going home.” Zhou Yining continued to act pitiful.
The young lady immediately hugged Zhou Yining tightly from behind. “I don’t not like you. It’s just, it’s just you said it so suddenly, I couldn’t react.”
Zhou Yining’s lips curved slightly, but she quickly resumed her pitiful expression. “So, does that mean you like me too?”
She said this with a hopeful look at Jiang Xianzhi.
Though shy, Jiang Xianzhi didn’t want Zhou Yining to feel sad. She nodded shyly. “I like you.”
Hearing this, Zhou Yining immediately brightened. She turned, slipped out of Jiang Xianzhi’s arms, and hugged her instead. “I knew you definitely liked me too.”
Jiang Xianzhi shyly buried herself in Zhou Yining’s arms. Compared to the many times before, something felt different.
She buried her face in Zhou Yining’s arms, showing only her bright red ears. Jiang Xianzhi asked softly, shyly, “So, when did you start liking me?”
After asking, she shyly nuzzled in Zhou Yining’s arms.
Zhou Yining’s eyes curved slightly. “I don’t know. Maybe the first time I saw you, or maybe recently.”
“You’re lying. You even wrote a love letter to Zhang Ye before.” Thinking of this, Jiang Xianzhi’s heart soured again. Her Zhou Zhou never wrote her a love letter. Zhang Ye got off easy.
“If you want, I’ll write you one every day. Just one thing—don’t be mad at me.” Zhou Yining gently held Jiang Xianzhi’s waist, coaxing her.
Jiang Xianzhi hummed in her arms for a while. She remembered Zhou Yining saying she couldn’t stop wanting to kiss her or get close. Jiang Xianzhi’s heartbeat quickened involuntarily.
Honestly, when Zhou Yining kissed her lips earlier, it was just a fleeting touch. Jiang Xianzhi felt unsatisfied. Her mind was blank then, and she barely felt it.
She kind of wanted Zhou Yining to kiss her again, but she was too shy to say it. Asking her girlfriend for a kiss made her blush just thinking about it.
Zhou Yining didn’t know what the young lady was thinking, only noticing her ears turned red again after calming down a bit.
Zhou Yining, amused, held Jiang Xianzhi and asked softly, “What are you thinking? Why are your ears red again?”
As she spoke, she gently pinched Jiang Xianzhi’s ear. Jiang Xianzhi trembled in her arms.
Jiang Xianzhi nuzzled in her arms, pushing her lightly. “Don’t pinch.”
Her voice was soft and sweet, like a little fox whose tail was pinched.
“Okay, I won’t move. Lean on me and relax.” Having just confessed, Zhou Yining didn’t want to scare the little fox. She gently coaxed the girl in her arms.
“Hmm.” Jiang Xianzhi nodded obediently, then quietly leaned in Zhou Yining’s arms to calm her emotions.
Ten minutes later, she got up from Zhou Yining’s arms but still didn’t dare look into Zhou Yining’s eyes.
Zhou Yining stood to get the water glass and said softly, “Drink some water first and rest.”
“Hmm.” Jiang Xianzhi took the glass, drank all the water obediently, then secretly glanced at Zhou Yining. She saw Zhou Yining watching her with smiling eyes.
Jiang Xianzhi’s ears reddened again. She pursed her lips uncomfortably, unsure what to say.
Zhou Yining chuckled at her and said softly, “Relax. I won’t do anything without your permission. Don’t be so nervous.”
“I’m not nervous, just not used to it.” This morning, she and Zhou Yining were still good friends. Now it was like this. She really hadn’t expected it.
