Chapter 81 Why Did You Block All of Us?…
Zhou Yining smiled at her and asked, “You’ll get used to it slowly. Can we still sleep together tonight?”
Jiang Xianzhi heard this, her ears turned red, and she nodded shyly after a moment.
Zhou Yining’s eyes curved slightly; she knew Jiang Xianzhi liked her too.
Jiang Xianzhi calmed down for a bit, leaned into Zhou Yining’s arms, and said playfully, “But you didn’t want the watch I gave you just now.”
Zhou Yining sighed and said, “That watch costs hundreds of thousands. It’s too expensive.”
“I don’t care. I want to give it to you. I want us to wear matching ones,” Jiang Xianzhi said, nuzzling in her arms and whining playfully.
Zhou Yining looked at the whining young lady in her arms, her gaze deepened, and her eyes fell on Jiang Xianzhi’s chattering lips.
Jiang Xianzhi noticed Zhou Yining staring at her lips, blushed with embarrassment, pursed her lips, and closed her eyes, quietly waiting for Zhou Yining to kiss her. She felt a little excited inside, since earlier it was just a peck on the corner of her lips, and before she could react, Zhou Yining had pulled away.
Zhou Yining saw the young lady close her eyes, her gaze softened even more, and the girl leaned obediently in her arms, letting her kiss her with her eyes closed.
She really wanted to kiss her, but they were both still underage, so Zhou Yining only leaned down and gently kissed Jiang Xianzhi’s forehead.
The kiss she imagined didn’t happen, so Jiang Xianzhi looked at Zhou Yining with some disappointment and nuzzled in her arms.
Zhou Yining smiled at her and said, “When you’re an adult.”
Jiang Xianzhi shyly buried her face in Zhou Yining’s arms and said, “You have to take the watch. I want us to wear couple’s watches, okay?”
Being nuzzled and coaxed by her little girlfriend, Zhou Yining’s eyes curved and she said, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
“Hmm,” Jiang Xianzhi said, took the watch, put it on Zhou Yining’s wrist, and wore one herself too.
Jiang Xianzhi looked at the matching watches with Zhou Yining and immediately felt happy.
“Let’s go. Want to go downstairs and eat some fruit? Auntie and the others saw you were unhappy earlier and are probably still worried,” Zhou Yining said.
“Hmm,” Jiang Xianzhi said, rubbed her nose against Zhou Yining’s shoulder, and looked up at her.
Zhou Yining put her arm around Jiang Xianzhi’s waist and stood up, asking, “Stand up properly. Should I let go?”
“No, hold my hand,” Jiang Xianzhi said, continuing to act spoiled.
“Okay,” Zhou Yining said, held Jiang Xianzhi’s hand, and walked out of the room.
They held hands and went downstairs, and Liang Jing and the others felt relieved seeing their daughter was cheered up.
In the afternoon, Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi followed Liang Jing and others to a manor in the suburbs, which was part of Jiang Xianzhi’s family business. The manor was large, with a pond for wealthy guests to fish.
The adults drank tea and talked business in the manor, while Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi went fishing by the pond. They took fishing rods, cast them, and sat quietly by the shore, waiting.
The pond had many fish, and soon Zhou Yining’s rod moved, with the line swaying constantly.
Zhou Yining quickly reeled in the rod and caught a big fish.
Jiang Xianzhi was even more excited than Zhou Yining and shouted, “You caught one!”
“Quick, open the bucket lid,” Zhou Yining said, grabbing the wriggling fish.
Jiang Xianzhi hurriedly opened the bucket lid, Zhou Yining removed the hook, and put the lively fish into the bucket with water, where it could stay alive.
“Why haven’t I caught anything?” Jiang Xianzhi said, pouting and looking at the pond.
“It should happen soon. Check if the bait is still on the hook. If not, add some,” Zhou Yining said.
Jiang Xianzhi obediently checked, saw the bait was eaten by the fish below, added more bait, cast the hook again, and waited quietly.
Soon, Jiang Xianzhi’s line moved, she excitedly pulled the rod, reeled in the line, but didn’t dare grab the fish when it came up.
She looked at Zhou Yining for help and said, “Zhou Zhou, help me take it.”
Zhou Yining looked at the lively fish, laughed, and said, “Okay, hold the rod steady.”
Then, Zhou Yining grabbed the fish, removed it from the hook, and threw it into the bucket.
Both got splashed with water from the wriggling fish. After fishing for a while, Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi gave the fish to the staff, some were released back into the pond, and the rest were kept for a barbecue that evening.
Jiang Xianzhi’s family manor was large, so Zhou Yining held her hand and strolled inside. They played outside until past four before returning.
Zhou Yining and Jiang Xianzhi didn’t rest long in the lounge when Zhou Yining’s phone rang. She saw an unknown number on the caller ID and answered it.
“Who is it? What’s up?” Zhou Yining asked.
“Yining, it’s me. Why did you block both me and your dad’s contact info?” Zhao Xiuna asked.
Zhou Yining frowned upon hearing the voice, opened the record button, pressed it, and said, “Didn’t we cut ties? Why are you calling me?”
“Yining, we’re family. You can’t do this…” Zhao Xiuna said.
“If you’re just going to repeat that nonsense, I’m hanging up,” Zhou Yining said, tired of her useless words.
“Don’t hang up, don’t hang up. Here’s the thing: a few days ago, I accidentally knocked over the oil pot while making meatballs at home. The house nearly caught fire, and both my arms got burned. I’m in the hospital now. Yining, can you come see me?” Zhao Xiuna said, crying.
Zhou Yining heard this but felt no stir in her heart and said, “If you’re burned, get treated. What’s the point of calling me? You didn’t just remember me because you’re hurt and want me to take care of you, did you?”
Zhao Xiuna’s crying paused. She looked at Zhou Yuanfei holding the phone by the bed and continued, “Yining, I raised you this long. You can’t be so unfilial. Are you unwilling to even come see me once?”
“Come see you once? One visit leads to a second, a third, then Zhou Yuanfei and the others will push your care onto me. Let me guess, you probably owe medical bills and want me to pay, right? I’ll tell you straight: dream on. I’m not going even once,” Zhou Yining said and hung up.
Zhou Yuanfei was so angry he nearly smashed the phone and cursed, “Damn it, this heartless beast. You’re hurt like this, and she doesn’t care.”
Then, Zhou Yuanfei glared at Zhao Xiuna and said, “And you, crying all day, completely useless. No job, asking me for money every month. You can’t even fry meatballs right and got both arms burned. Such bad luck.”
“You think I wanted this? I didn’t go to work for this family, did I? I’m not idle all day. I do housework, cook, and buy groceries. These things are all on me. This time was an accident, not on purpose,” Zhao Xiuna said, feeling more wronged, tears streaming down her face, but with both arms burned and in pain, she couldn’t wipe them.
Zhou Yuanfei found her annoying and didn’t help wipe her tears, saying, “So annoying. Doesn’t your family have anyone? I’m stuck here taking care of you every day. I’ll get fired from the company soon, and then our whole family can go starve.”
Zhao Xiuna sniffled and said, “Call Yining again. This time I’ll soften my tone. If she comes to take care of me, you can go to work. Also, her friends seem capable. If there’s someone at the hospital, maybe they can reduce the medical bills.”
“Fine, I’ll use my other number,” Zhou Yuanfei said, took out his work phone, and dialed Zhou Yining.
Zhou Yining frowned, thought for a moment, and answered, “Who’s this?”
Soon, the crying voice came again, “Yining, it’s me. Can you not hang up? I’m really suffering and want to see you.”
“Really? You never wanted to see me before you got hurt. Now that you’re injured, you suddenly want to see me? What’s that about? Ms. Zhao, I’m not a kid anymore. Your words mean nothing to me. We’re done. Oh, and I’ve hired a lawyer to sue you. You’ll probably get the lawsuit papers soon. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up,” Zhou Yining said.
“Zhou Yining, you beast. Is your heart black?” Zhou Yuanfei couldn’t help but curse.
“It’s fine. I’m still kinder than you. You’re calling to scheme against me, aren’t you? Zhou Yuanfei, she’s your wife. She burned her arms cooking for you and your son. You two heartless people aren’t planning to abandon her, are you? Oh wait, you’re heartless, so you probably don’t want to care for her,” Zhou Yining said, sneered coldly, and added, “You think I’ll soften and take on this mess. I’ll tell you straight: dream on, Zhou Yuanfei. Get ready to pay my child support.”
With that, Zhou Yining hung up again. Some people are pitiful because they brought it on themselves, and Zhou Yining felt no sympathy for Zhao Xiuna.
A mother like that, only thinking of dragging her daughter into the mud, what’s there to pity?
She sacrificed everything for her husband and son, but they didn’t appreciate it, thinking it’s just what a housewife should do. Even when asking her husband for household money each month, she had to face his bad attitude. Why bother? Isn’t it self-inflicted?
Zhou Yining’s phone speaker was loud, so Jiang Xianzhi heard everything.
She looked at Zhou Yining’s expression and asked softly, “Zhou Zhou, my family has connections with the hospital. Do you need me to…”
“No way. These people are like sticky plasters you can’t shake off. If you’re kind to them once, they’ll come back demanding more. Don’t get involved in this,” Zhou Yining said quickly.
Jiang Xianzhi nodded, looked at Zhou Yining, and saw her expression showed no change. Jiang Xianzhi was a bit surprised. Even if someone had fallen out with their family, who could stay so calm when their mother had such a big accident?
But thinking of what Zhou Yining’s family had done before, she understood. With family like that, it’s really better to have none.
