After Becoming the Family Head, I Got an Unofficial Fiancée (GL) - Chapter 16
Jiang Man was distracted throughout the entire class. It wasn’t just her—many of the students in the class were restless, as if they were being pricked by needles on their chairs.
Teacher Yang glanced at the time, then slammed her hand on the desk, saying to the students, “It’s almost time for the end of school. We’re having a parent-teacher meeting at six o’clock. If your parents haven’t arrived yet, call them and make sure they come.”
The students looked at her with sad, pleading eyes, but Teacher Yang was unmoved. “You’re all in the third year of high school now, you’re not little kids anymore. You need to understand your position. If your parents don’t come today, I won’t blame you.”
She scanned the room, her tone cold as she added, “I might let it slide this time. I might even let it slide next time. But remember, I’m a teacher, not a babysitter. If your parents don’t come, I’ll visit them one by one. No one can escape.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the bell for the end of class rang. Teacher Yang simply said, “Class dismissed,” grabbed her things, and walked out without looking back.
Once she left, the mood in the classroom was mixed—some were relieved, while others were anxious. Jiang Man took out her phone from the drawer and called Gu Weiyan to ask where she was.
At that moment, Gu Weiyan was driving a matte green sports car toward the school. She drove with one hand while resting her other hand on her head, her black hair blowing in the wind, drawing the attention of everyone around.
Gu Weiyan was naturally a graceful beauty—her appearance was striking, bold, and unrestrained. Today, driving such an eye-catching sports car, she attracted a lot of attention as she parked in front of the school gate.
Students leaving school saw Gu Weiyan and her sports car and couldn’t help but feel envious, some even sneaking photos to post in the school’s online forum.
Gu Weiyan glanced at the time—5:35 PM. She wasn’t late.
She parked the car at the entrance, got out, and with the press of a button, the convertible top of the car rose with a “shh-shh” sound, followed by two “beep-beep” sounds as the car locked.
So stylish, it was really too stylish.
Even Gu Weiyan felt her appearance was a bit too flashy, but since she was already out of the car, she didn’t care about the looks of others. After registering at the security desk, she entered the school campus.
From the outside, the school looked small and shabby, and when she stepped inside, it seemed even more rundown.
However, the campus greenery was well-maintained, with lush trees and flowers everywhere, which was quite pleasant to the eyes.
Jiang Man stood at the stairs of the classroom building. She had just called Gu Weiyan, who told her she was almost there. But seeing her classmates heading upstairs with their parents, why hadn’t Gu Weiyan arrived yet?
Just as Jiang Man was wondering whether to call Gu Weiyan again, she looked up and saw her in the distance.
Jiang Man quickly jogged over, and Gu Weiyan, seeing her, thought the way the girl ran toward her was really cute.
“Gu… Gu Weiyan!”
Jiang Man, breathless, stood in front of her and said, “I… I thought you weren’t coming today.”
“If I promised to come, I will,” Gu Weiyan said, watching Jiang Man’s face turn red from running. She glanced at her thick school uniform and softly asked, “Aren’t you hot? Why are you wearing something so thick?”
The uniform wrapped the girl up tightly, and just looking at it made Gu Weiyan feel hot.
Jiang Man quickly shook her head, clutching the corner of her uniform. “The classroom has air conditioning, so it’s not hot.”
Gu Weiyan nodded. If there was air conditioning, she didn’t need to worry—though she might catch a chill if she sat in a draft.
“We shouldn’t stand here,” Jiang Man said, looking anxiously at her. “Let’s go to the classroom. The parent-teacher meeting starts at six.”
“But there’s still more than twenty minutes left,” Gu Weiyan smiled at her. “Aren’t you going to show me around the campus?”
Jiang Man looked up at her, unsure what was so special about the school to walk around, but seeing that Gu Weiyan had arrived and was waiting for her, she felt relieved. When she saw other students walking around with their parents, she nodded and said, “Okay, then… where do you want to go?”
Gu Weiyan thought for a moment and said, “Where do you want to show me?”
Jiang Man looked around. Actually, she didn’t move around the school much. Apart from her usual seat, the only other place she knew well was the school cafeteria, but she couldn’t exactly take Gu Weiyan there for a tour, could she?
With that thought, Jiang Man nervously pinched her thumb and index finger, whispering, “Should we… go for a walk on the playground?”
Gu Weiyan raised an eyebrow. “The playground?”
Jiang Man nodded and explained, “I often see people walking and chatting there, so I thought… maybe you’d like to walk with me.”
Gu Weiyan gave her a thoughtful look and asked, “What kind of people? Are they… in a relationship?”
Jiang Man looked up in confusion. “In a relationship?”
Gu Weiyan leaned in a little closer and smiled teasingly. “Because no one would just walk on the playground without a reason, right? Do you think those couples you see are just strolling?”
Jiang Man’s face turned red immediately. Gu Weiyan was right. She had seen couples holding hands on the playground—both men and women—but she had thought they were just walking around.
“I… I don’t know,” Jiang Man stammered nervously. “Then… let’s not go. Let’s just go back to the classroom… we don’t need to go anywhere.”
But Gu Weiyan held onto Jiang Man’s hand, mischievously saying, “Since we’re already here, you’ve never been in a relationship, right? How about we walk a lap around the playground together?”
Jiang Man looked at her in horror, feeling like her whole body was burning up. “I… I…”
Just as Gu Weiyan was enjoying teasing her, a girl’s voice interrupted.
“Jiang Man!”
Zhang Youqian came from the school gate. Although she clearly called Jiang Man’s name, her eyes were fixed on Gu Weiyan. She stood beside Gu Weiyan, looking up with a smile and said, “Hello, Sister! We meet again. Are you here for the parent-teacher meeting with Jiang Man?”
Gu Weiyan released Jiang Man’s hand and shot her a cold look.
Seeing Gu Weiyan’s coldness, Zhang Youqian turned to Jiang Man and said, “Jiang Man, my dad is here too. Let’s go upstairs quickly, we don’t want to keep Teacher Yang waiting.”
Jiang Man glanced at Zhang Youqian and the man standing next to her, then looked at Gu Weiyan and nodded softly, “Okay, we’ll go upstairs now.”
Zhang Youqian didn’t care whether Jiang Man went upstairs or not. Her gaze was only on Gu Weiyan, and with a playful smile, she said, “Sister, I still don’t know your name. I only know you’re Jiang Man’s cousin. What’s your name, actually?”
Gu Weiyan didn’t look at her, instead focusing on the man standing behind Zhang Youqian.
The middle-aged man, slightly overweight but still energetic, quickly noticed Gu Weiyan’s gaze and hurriedly greeted her, “Hello, I’m Zhang Youqian’s father. Miss, may I ask your name?”
“I’m Gu Weiyan,” Gu Weiyan said, smiling lightly. “Your daughter is really outgoing. I’ve never met a girl so good at making small talk.”
Mr. Zhang was taken aback for a moment. Taking advantage of his hesitation, Gu Weiyan pulled Jiang Man toward the teaching building, leaving the father and daughter both stunned.
“Dad,” Zhang Youqian looked at her father in confusion. “Was Gu Weiyan just scolding me?”
Mr. Zhang’s face darkened as he glanced at his daughter and replied, “You’ve offended someone you shouldn’t have. She’s the new president of the Guo Rui Group, not someone you can just casually network with.”
Zhang Youqian thought for a moment and asked, “Is she the one who appeared on the financial news?”
“Yes, that’s her. And it turns out she’s your classmate’s sister. But isn’t your classmate’s last name Jiang? I’ve never heard of the Gu family having any relatives with the last name Jiang.”
“Well, this is getting interesting,” Zhang Youqian thought to herself, secretly making a note of it. She then grabbed her father’s arm and said, “Dad, I made it into the top ten in this semester’s exams. Teacher Yang will definitely praise me. You’ll see, we’ll be getting some recognition today!”
Although Gu Weiyan had run into someone she didn’t want to see, which disrupted her plans to take Jiang Man for a walk on the playground, sitting in the child’s seat wasn’t so bad either.
Jiang Man’s seat was near the back window, and with a slight tilt of her head, she could see the view outside. Gu Weiyan thought this was the perfect spot to relax and daydream.
“Gu Weiyan…”
Jiang Man stood beside Gu Weiyan, looking down at the ground nervously. She cautiously warned her, “I didn’t do well in the exams this time. I dropped more than ten spots. If Teacher Yang says something harsh, please don’t get angry, okay?”
Seeing Jiang Man’s fearful expression, as if she was dreading her parents’ scolding, Gu Weiyan couldn’t help but suppress a smile and said seriously, “Well, I’ll have to see how your homeroom teacher scolds me.”
Jiang Man, scared, opened her mouth but couldn’t say anything. She just bit her lip and stood there, anxiously beside her.
At that moment, Teacher Yang entered the room, holding some things in her hands. She tapped the desk and announced to the students still in the classroom, “We’ll begin the parent-teacher meeting now. Students, please step outside.”
Jiang Man anxiously looked at Teacher Yang, then at Gu Weiyan. Her eyes were already red, and she was close to tears.
Gu Weiyan felt that if she teased her any longer, Jiang Man would really cry. So, she sighed, reached out, and gently patted Jiang Man’s cheek. In a soft voice, she said, “Go ahead. I promise I won’t scold you no matter what happens. I’ll even take you to get some good food afterward. How does that sound?”
Jiang Man looked at her, nodded with a soft “Mm,” and reluctantly left the room.
The parent-teacher meeting turned out to be quite boring. Gu Weiyan listened to Teacher Yang while absentmindedly gazing out the window. The sky in early September didn’t get dark too quickly. Even though it was past six o’clock, it was still bright, and it wouldn’t get dark until about seven.
Teacher Yang began by talking about how students in their final year of high school should be starting to feel the pressure. She went on to mention the results of the recent exams, pointing out students who hadn’t made much progress, as well as those who had fallen several places after the summer break. She talked about all of this until 6:30, when the meeting finally concluded.
“Parents, please keep the exam papers as a reminder,” Teacher Yang said. “If your child didn’t do well, they need to work harder. If they did well, don’t get complacent. After all, there are over 300 days left until the college entrance exam. Every day counts. Here is the QR code for the parent group chat. Please join the group, and I will post any important notices there. The college entrance exam isn’t just a matter for the teachers and students, it’s also about us parents. We need to work together, so please stay engaged.”
After saying all this, Teacher Yang glanced at the student list and then looked up toward Jiang Man’s seat. “Has Jiang Man’s parent arrived?”
Hearing this, Gu Weiyan glanced at Teacher Yang, raised her hand from her seat, and indicated that she was there.
Teacher Yang paused for a moment, surprised at how young Gu Weiyan looked, but quickly recovered and closed her folder. She said to her, “Please come with me to the office.”
Gu Weiyan thought to herself: “…Am I finally going to get scolded after all these years of scolding others?”
Gu Weiyan: Honestly, I’m kind of excited about this!
