After Becoming the Mother of the Scumbag Stand-In Female Lead - Chapter 1
The plane touched down at nine o’clock in the evening.
The dark night was dotted with stars and lights inside and out, while the vast airport was sparsely populated with scattered travelers.
Sheng Yunjin glanced at the message she had just received on her phone, a cold smirk appearing on her fair and striking face before she lightly tapped the screen to turn it off. She pushed her luggage forward with composed steps, heading outside.
Dressed in a coffee-colored trench coat with the sleeves casually rolled up to reveal a slender, pale wrist, she wore a black fitted minidress underneath that accentuated her graceful figure. Paired with knee-high black boots and her long hair loosely draped over her shoulders, she exuded an aura of both purity and dominance.
Except for… that frosty expression…
Beside her, Lin Xiaoyu had just ended a frustrating phone call when she turned and saw Sheng Yunjin’s demeanor. She let out a low groan before clenching her phone in frustration. “Tell me, did these two old men conspire to stir up trouble at the same time?”
She and Sheng Yunjin had been close friends since childhood. Due to some family troubles, they had both gone abroad after middle school, supporting each other through high school and university.
Originally, they had planned to embark on a world tour after graduation, but they had instead received calls from home one after the other.
Lin Xiaoyu was returning to inherit the family business. Her father, who had had her late in life, had only one daughter. Seeing that she had graduated with no intention of returning, he had issued an ultimatum.
Either accept an arranged marriage to find a reliable son-in-law to manage the company, or obediently come back and take over the business herself.
Her carefree days as a young lady were over—now she had to return home dejectedly and become a corporate drone.
But compared to her, Sheng Yunjin had it even worse…
Sighing deeply, Lin Xiaoyu patted Sheng Yunjin’s shoulder with exaggerated despair. “Xiao Jin, how about we check into a hotel tonight and drown our sorrows before heading home tomorrow morning?”
Sheng Yunjin irritably brushed her hand away before curling her lips into a wry smile. “Not tonight. Chairman Sheng got into a car accident. I need to go to the hospital.”
If not for the people she had stationed back home, Sheng Yunjin wouldn’t have even known about Sheng Mingzhao’s accident tonight.
Though she had been living abroad, she hadn’t missed a single development back home.
Not only was she aware of the illegitimate son who had recently shown up at the Sheng family’s doorstep, but she also had detailed records of every one of Sheng Mingzhao’s mistresses from the year she left the country up until now—seven years in total.
Though these women all bore some resemblance to her mother, who had died in childbirth, in Sheng Yunjin’s eyes, they were just as repulsive as Sheng Mingzhao himself.
Lin Xiaoyu looked at her with concern. “When did it happen? Is it serious?”
She distinctly remembered Sheng Yunjin calling home before boarding the plane—how had a car accident happened so suddenly?
Sheng Yunjin shook her head, about to respond, when she noticed two young women around their age approaching from the side, whispering into their phones as they walked toward them.
As the two approached, their nervousness and hesitation became even more apparent. Sheng Yunjin’s expression softened slightly as she took the initiative to speak, “Hello, is there something you need?”
Hearing her speak, the two girls let out a few excited whispers.
Before Sheng Yunjin and Lin Xiaoyu could react defensively, one of the girls raised her phone screen, blushing as she asked, “Miss, is this you in this MV?”
Sheng Yunjin took a half-step back and glanced at the screen. It was a screenshot from a video showing her clinking glasses with Alex on a yacht.
Alex was the older brother of one of Sheng Yunjin’s high school classmates and a well-known singer abroad.
Originally, Sheng Yunjin hadn’t known about this connection, but by chance, she attended a party hosted by this high school classmate and thus met Alex.
A few months ago, Alex had approached her, asking if she would be the female lead in his new album’s music video. Bored at the time, Sheng Yunjin agreed.
However, she hadn’t followed up on it afterward. It seemed now that Alex’s new album had been released.
Lin Xiaoyu, standing beside her, also glanced at the image and then, remembering something, quickly pulled out her phone to search.
Meanwhile, after a brief moment of surprise, Sheng Yunjin quickly regained her composure and nodded calmly, “Yes, that’s me.”
…
After parting ways with the two girls, the two walked out while Lin Xiaoyu cheerfully showed Sheng Yunjin the search results on her phone. “Look, turns out you were trending in the country a few days ago.”
Sheng Yunjin skimmed through the content and chuckled, “With looks like mine, don’t I deserve to trend?”
Though accustomed to her narcissistic remarks, Lin Xiaoyu still felt the urge to smack her on the head.
“Absolutely, absolutely. With that face and that figure, you’re practically unstoppable,” Lin Xiaoyu deadpanned before shaking her head in resignation.
…
The two parted ways at the airport entrance. Lin Xiaoyu took a car home, while Sheng Yunjin headed to the hospital.
On the way to the hospital, Sheng Yunjin closed her eyes to rest. The driver, initially hoping to strike up a conversation with his beautiful passenger, gave up upon seeing this.
The late-night roads were relatively clear, and after an hour and a half, Sheng Yunjin arrived at the private hospital owned by the Ming Sheng Group.
Having called the family butler earlier, Uncle Li was already waiting outside for her arrival.
As soon as she stepped out of the car, Uncle Li took her suitcase and led her into the hospital, gently asking, “Miss, why didn’t you call ahead so we could arrange a car to pick you up?”
Sheng Yunjin followed him inside, and within a few steps, she spotted the so-called illegitimate son and his mother.
As she drew closer, Sheng Yunjin leisurely remarked, “I was in a hurry, Uncle Li. If I didn’t come back soon, I was afraid someone might try to take my inheritance.”
Watching the pair’s expressions shift repeatedly, Sheng Yunjin finally felt a bit of satisfaction.
After nearly a dozen hours of traveling by plane and car, Sheng Yunjin was utterly exhausted and ready to collapse into bed. If not for this mother-son pair, she wouldn’t have had to make this late-night trip to the hospital.
Though Sheng Mingzhao could be quite annoying, he was still her biological father after all. Sheng Yunjin couldn’t just stand by and watch the old man get killed.
Her footsteps halted before the two. Looking down at the woman clutching her son’s shoulders with an exaggerated trembling expression of fear, Sheng Yunjin rolled her eyes at the woman’s tacky performance.
Though she’d never met her own birth mother, seeing such a similar face putting on such an affected act made Sheng Yunjin feel physically ill.
If she didn’t know this woman had orchestrated the car accident, she might have actually believed that exaggerated look of devastation.
“Dad’s not even here to see your little show,” she scoffed coldly.
With one last glance at the brat glaring at her with undisguised hatred, Sheng Yunjin turned and walked away without hesitation.
How old was that kid again? she idly wondered as she headed toward the hospital room.
The records said thirteen, but he was still shorter than his mother. Was Sheng Mingzhao’s genetics really that terrible?
While waiting for the elevator, she checked her reflection in the polished doors and nodded approvingly at her own height.
At least Sheng Mingzhao hadn’t passed that particular trait on to her.
