After Becoming the Mother of the Scumbag Stand-In Female Lead - Chapter 6
After finalizing plans with Lin Xiaoyu, Sheng Yunjin began preparing to go out.
First, she headed to the walk-in closet to change into a white casual shirt paired with an A-line denim skirt, then switched into comfortable sneakers for ease of movement. Satisfied with her reflection in the mirror, she nodded slightly. Lin Xiaoyu could shop endlessly once she got started, and wearing heels to accompany her would leave Sheng Yunjin’s feet ruined by the end of the day.
Just before leaving, Sheng Yunjin suddenly remembered something—she hadn’t watered her plants yet today.
Pausing at the doorway with her small handbag already in hand, she flicked her fingers slightly. The watering can on the balcony floated into the air on its own, guided by an unseen force, and began watering each of the small potted plants one by one.
Mission accomplished. Sheng Yunjin arched a brow, then shut the door behind her with a flourish.
……
The entire day was spent accompanying Lin Xiaoyu as they combed through every floor of the downtown shopping district. The clothes and bags they bought probably piled up to the size of a small truck.
Watching Lin Xiaoyu prance ahead, still bursting with energy and showing no signs of exhaustion, Sheng Yunjin sighed helplessly.
Thankfully, she earned enough—otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to keep up with this girl’s spending habits.
“Xiao Jin, are you tired?”
With her best friend by her side, Lin Xiaoyu had finally vented all her work frustrations. Now, she felt invigorated, ready to bicker with her dad for another three hours!
Sitting on a bench outside a drink shop, Sheng Yunjin shot her an exasperated look. “Took you long enough to notice. Go buy me a drink.”
With an ingratiating smile, Lin Xiaoyu obediently dashed into the shop to get bubble tea.
Taking advantage of the break, Sheng Yunjin checked a message she had just received—from the private investigator she had hired.
“Ms. Sheng, after several days of surveillance, we’ve confirmed the identity of the person secretly in contact with Zhang Xiang. It’s Sun Chengqing, a board member of Mingsheng Group.”
Sheng Yunjin silently repeated the name, then replied, “Good work. The remaining payment will be transferred shortly.”
Ending the conversation with the investigator, she let her thoughts drift for a moment.
Before approaching Sheng Mingzhao, Zhang Xiang had actually been married—just not to a good man. Her husband was an alcoholic, and the family of three struggled to get by.
Zhang Xiang had no job, so the household relied entirely on her husband’s meager wages. Though he often beat and berated her when drunk, she endured it.
Then, someone reached out to her, claiming that her son wasn’t actually her husband’s child—but the biological son of Mingsheng Group’s chairman.
Zhang Xiang had no reason to doubt this, as she had indeed been involved with Sheng Mingzhao years ago.
Under this person’s persuasion, Zhang Xiang mustered the courage to divorce her husband, then followed them to bring her son to Sheng Mingzhao.
Though Sheng Yunjin had been abroad when all this happened, she knew every detail.
The only thing she hadn’t figured out was—who would go to such lengths just to give Sheng Mingzhao a “son”?
Now, she had her answer. Sun Ruqing—a longtime friend of Sheng Mingzhao and a fellow board member of Mingsheng Group.
Holding a cup of iced milk tea while following behind Lin Xiaoyu, Sheng Yunjin was still distracted by her thoughts.
What on earth was Sun Ruqing thinking?
Could it be that his love for Sheng Mingzhao ran so deep that he worried his old friend would have no heir in his later years, going to such lengths to search the world for his biological son?
Amused by her own wild imagination, Sheng Yunjin shook her head.
No matter how deep the love, it shouldn’t justify trying to kill someone with a car.
……
“Xiao Jin, Xiao Jin, Sheng Rujin! What are you thinking about?”
Lin Xiaoyu had just tried on a bracelet and wanted to ask Sheng Rujin’s opinion, but when she turned around, she saw her biting the straw with a faraway look in her eyes.
Yet she never expected that calling out “Sheng Rujin” would snap two people out of their thoughts at once.
Sheng Yunjin walked over to Lin Xiaoyu’s side to help her pick out jewelry with full attention, while on the other side of the store, Si Mu—who had been listening to the manager’s monthly report—found herself involuntarily turning towards them upon hearing those three syllables: “Sheng Rujin.”
