"After Becoming the Protagonist's Scumbag Alpha Ex-Wife" (ABO) - Chapter 15
“Your wife lost control and was frightened. We’re very sorry,” the director continued. “Our center suffered significant losses today, and the situation has had a negative impact. I hope you, as her legal guardian, can take your responsibilities seriously and ensure that she doesn’t leave this pheromone-isolated room during her stay.”
Although he didn’t explicitly place the blame on Qin Ran, it was clear that her failure to fulfill her duties had, in some way, contributed to what happened.
After all, if Qin Ran had been with Wen Qingyun earlier, she might not have run out of the room, and this whole incident could’ve been avoided.
“I wasn’t by her side earlier—that was my negligence,” Qin Ran admitted calmly. “But the fact remains that your facility’s safety measures need serious improvement.
“If the therapy area on the second floor wasn’t open to the first-floor reception hall… or if your soothers had emergency protocols in place to restrain those who lose control… or even if more of your staff were Betas—then this situation wouldn’t have escalated the way it did.
“I’m not trying to argue. I’m just stating the facts. There’s responsibility on both sides, and I’m willing to take mine. We can discuss everything once we have the results.”
Qin Ran’s tone was composed, but there was a clear edge beneath the calm.
She was especially displeased about how roughly Wen Qingyun had been handled—sprayed head to toe with sharp-smelling suppressants, and someone had even slapped a cheap, poor-quality suppression patch on her. It was far too harsh, especially for an Omega.
“…You’re right. The center does need to improve,” the director finally admitted, his voice less rigid than before. “I’ve explained the situation, and I hope you’ll understand. I’ll collect the bl00d samples for testing now.”
After two vials of bl00d were drawn from Wen Qingyun, the director left the room. Qin Ran turned back to look at her.
Lying on the bed, Wen Qingyun looked fragile. The red rash around her neck had spread even more.
She’d already been doused in suppressants—there was no need for the patch anymore.
Qin Ran walked over and reached for the patch, intending to peel it off.
But just as her fingers touched it, a cold, slender hand gripped her wrist.
Qin Ran looked down to see Wen Qingyun raising her eyes to meet hers. Her eyes were icy.
Qin Ran remembered that the last time Wen Qingyun was given a sedative, she had quickly drifted off into a deep sleep. But right now, she looked unusually alert.
“I didn’t mean anything bad,” Qin Ran explained briefly, not wanting to be misunderstood. “I just saw the rash on your neck and thought I’d take off that knock-off patch.”
Wen Qingyun didn’t respond. Her expression only grew darker. The look in her eyes clearly said, I don’t need your help.
“…Fine. I won’t touch it. Leave it on if you want.” Qin Ran sighed, pulling her hand back.
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Qin Ran went to open it and saw Fu Ma being assisted in.
“Fu Ma—what happened to you? Are you hurt?” Qin Ran stepped aside to let Fu Ma enter, expressing her concern.
“I twisted my back. It’s nothing serious,” Fu Ma replied awkwardly, walking over to sit beside Wen Qingyun.
“Alright. You stay here with her. I’ll go check on things and bring Xiao Zhang and the driver over to help.”
Qin Ran left the room. This wasn’t a regular hospital, and neither Fu Ma nor Wen Qingyun could get proper examinations here. They needed to leave as soon as possible.
Fu Ma sat down by the bed, looking at Wen Qingyun with guilt in her eyes.
“Qingyun… it’s all my fault. I couldn’t stop you. I’m old and useless now,” she said softly. “How did you suddenly go into estrus like that? You usually get some warning a day or two ahead…”
Originally, Qin Ran had planned to come along, but Fu Ma had insisted she stay behind. Who could’ve expected something like this to happen?
And Fu Ma, as an elderly Omega, has barely had any strength left.
If Qin Ran hadn’t been there earlier… the consequences of Wen Qingyun falling down the stairs could’ve been unimaginable.
Wen Qingyun stared blankly ahead; her expression was distant. She didn’t respond to Fu Ma’s words—not even with sign language. Instead, her slender fingers reached up and gently touched the suppression patch on her neck, her fingertips trembling.
That patch hadn’t been applied by the staff—it was Fu Ma who had put it on.
In a technical sense, it was indeed a questionable product. Because the patch had actually been made by Wen Qingyun herself—her own custom-formulated, high-strength suppressant. It was the only thing that had reliably kept her glands in check.
Most Omegas carried things like suppression sprays or emergency patches when leaving the house. Fu Ma had packed Wen Qingyun’s homemade patches for her before they came.
Earlier, in the therapy room, Wen Qingyun’s glands overheated, causing her pheromones to spiral out of control and her body to helplessly slip into estrus. The all-too-familiar sensation threw her emotions into a state of turmoil.
It felt like she was trapped in endless darkness, trying to claw her way out, only to be dragged down deeper and deeper. The more she struggled, the more she sank.
Fu Ma had quickly applied the patch, and then the staff had drenched her with suppressant sprays—as if turning on the emergency sprinklers in a fire. The scent soaked her completely.
But all that only prevented the pheromones from leaking out. It did nothing to stabilize her emotions.
The fuse had already been lit—everything that followed was inevitable.
It was just like that spring night five years ago… a complete disaster.
What made it worse this time was that she’d caught that scent again.
In the haze of confusion, her body still recognized it. It smelled so familiar… so safe. She had wanted more. Desperately.
Her fingers slowly dropped away from the patch and curled tightly into her palm.
“Qingyun, we need to get you properly examined,” Fu Ma said, sitting beside her. “There might’ve been foul play. Qin Ran did save you from falling, but she’s the one who suggested we come to this center in the first place. And now, not even one full day in, and something like this happens? It just feels… suspicious.”
“Don’t overthink it,” Wen Qingyun replied in sign language, though her heart felt heavy.
Yes, her pheromones had been unstable lately—but not like this.
If someone really had tampered with something… and used something colorless, scentless, and almost impossible to detect to trigger this overwhelming estrus…
Then it was just like back then.
