"After Becoming the Protagonist's Scumbag Alpha Ex-Wife" (ABO) - Chapter 8
When the scent in the room had fully dispersed, Qin Ran quietly closed the door and headed downstairs, planning to find a first aid kit to check Wen Qingyun’s temperature. Just as she reached downstairs, she saw A’Mei coming out of Rou Rou’s room.
“President Qin—your neck! What happened?” A’Mei exclaimed in surprise before Qin Ran could say anything.
“Hiss… it’s nothing. Do you know where the first aid kit is?”
Qin Ran reached up to touch her neck and winced as her fingers brushed the wound. She glanced at her fingers, which were stained with half-dried bl00d.
Her focus had been entirely on Wen Qingyun just now, so she hadn’t noticed the burning pain on her neck—turns out that it has actually been bleeding.
This omega, Wen Qingyun, really didn’t hold back.
“I’ll go get it right away,” A’Mei replied quickly and hurried off to another room. In no time, she returned with a small first aid kit.
A’Mei looked at Qin Ran a little uneasily.
That scratch looked like it came from Miss Wen. Would President Qin be angry with her?
Normally, when Miss Wen had an episode, she lashed out randomly but wasn’t hard to avoid. Why had she been so violent this time?
A’Mei was worried. Qin Ran had only just started treating Wen Qingyun better—what if this changed everything again?
“How’s Rou Rou?” Qin Ran asked as she took the kit, unaware of A’Mei’s thoughts.
“I gave her a bath earlier. She was a little sleepy and had gone to bed. I was just coming out to look for some clothes for her, but I couldn’t find any new ones that fit. There were some unopened clothes in Su Xiaorong’s room, but the sizes were off—Rou Rou can’t wear them. I’m not really sure about her size… Should we take her to a children’s store to try some things on?” A’Mei asked.
“Okay. When Rou Rou wakes up, let me know. I’m heading back upstairs. Also, keep an eye out—when the doctor arrives, bring them up to Miss Wen’s room,” Qin Ran said with a nod.
Little girls usually love looking pretty. If she bought new clothes for Rou Rou and made her look all cute, that would definitely increase the girl’s affection. Then, when Rou Rou will get to see her mother, Wen Qingyun, it would show Qin Ran’s sincerity too—hopefully Wen Qingyun would notice that.
“Got it, President Qin. I’ll be careful,” A’Mei responded, blinking in surprise. She hadn’t expected that even after being scratched by Wen Qingyun, Qin Ran wouldn’t be angry—and even brought Wen Qingyun back into the main house!
Since A’Mei had agreed, Qin Ran didn’t say anything else and went back upstairs with the first aid kit.
She first checked Wen Qingyun’s temperature: it was over 39°C (102°F).
Not knowing which fever meds to use yet, Qin Ran applied a child-sized cooling patch to Wen Qingyun’s forehead to bring the fever down.
Then she looked in the mirror at her neck—yep, it was bloody.
Several spots had been clawed open by Wen Qingyun’s nails. Even the ones that weren’t bleeding had the skin broken.
Qin Ran turned and gently lifted Wen Qingyun’s hand to check her fingernails.
Wen Qingyun’s thin fingers had long nails, stained with both bl00d and a bit of rust.
“Ugh…” Qin Ran groaned and held her forehead. She’d probably need a tetanus shot.
She couldn’t help but wonder if Wen Qingyun had done it on purpose.
Looking at the now sleeping Wen Qingyun with a kids’ fever patch on her forehead, she seemed weak, pitiful, and vulnerable—but Qin Ran know she was not an ordinary omega.
Wen Qingyun would eventually become a terrifying, god-tier biologist—someone who could invent life-saving medicine or create bio-weapons that could devastate nations. Terrorists would shiver at her name.
And Qin Ran, as her number one enemy, was naturally the most at risk.
Right now, their relationship hadn’t yet reached the point of “you die, I live”—but it was close.
The law offered some protections for omegas. For those without the ability to care for themselves, a spouse couldn’t even initiate divorce.
Even if the transmigrator Qin Ran had filed for divorce, the court would have rejected it.
So she had forced Wen Qingyun to file the petition herself—threatening her with Rou Rou and the ailing grandfather in the hospital. She also pressured Wen Qingyun into voluntarily checking into a psychiatric facility, transferring her shares in the Wen Corporation, and giving up all rights to their daughter.
As Rou Rou’s legal guardian, “Qin Ran” gained control of Rou Rou’s shares. Added to the ones gifted by Grandpa Wen, this made “Qin Ran” the majority shareholder in the company.
All of this had stoked Wen Qingyun’s hatred to the extreme.
Not only did she steal her wealth—she’d used her loved ones as leverage.
Who wouldn’t hate someone like that?
So Qin Ran could only accept that the injuries to her neck were the original Qin Ran’s fault. She didn’t blame Wen Qingyun for them.
Looking in the mirror, she disinfected the wounds with alcohol and cotton using tweezers. Once cleaned, the injury didn’t look quite so gruesome—just a few crescent-shaped claw marks.
Judging from the current situation, a few apologies weren’t going to be enough to improve their relationship. She needed to show real sincerity.
Letting Wen Qingyun spend time with Rou Rou was one thing. But she also needed to find a trusted lawyer by the Wen family to draft a new divorce agreement—one where she gave back all the shares and stepped away clean.
There were no feelings between her and Wen Qingyun. This marriage wasn’t worth maintaining. Qin Ran didn’t want to drag it out either.
She already had someone she liked—an omega she’d fallen for five years ago. Even now, she hasn’t been able to forget her. She thought of her every day during those five years. Only after divorcing Wen Qingyun could she have the right to go look for her again.
As for Wen Qingyun, she had her fated alpha—the one described in the original plot as incredibly charming. That person would become Wen Qingyun’s light, pulling her out of the darkness. Without that alpha, Wen Qingyun might very well destroy the world.
Thinking of this, Qin Ran suddenly had a new idea.
She could find that destined alpha ahead of schedule—bring her here to help comfort Wen Qingyun. If Wen Qingyun could feel warmth and love from the world, maybe it would soften her hatred.
And maybe—just maybe—Qin Ran could survive a little longer.
The more Qin Ran thought about it, the more she felt this was a great idea.
Her own pheromones might be rejected, but that Alpha’s definitely wouldn’t be.
According to the plot, the Alpha was a highly-ranked pheromone therapist who was assigned to Wen Qingyun after her talents were discovered. Their pheromones were an excellent match.
Even though Qin Ran didn’t know where the Alpha was, she could track her down through the National Pheromone Therapist Registry.
With this plan in mind, Qin Ran finally felt a bit more at ease. While she was just finishing up cleaning the wound on her neck, the family doctor arrived.
The doctor, surnamed Liang, was from the Wen family’s private hospital and had been caring for them for many years. He was familiar with all their conditions and, in the original plot, was on Wen Qingyun’s side. He’d helped her out a lot, and he was also the one looking after the Wen patriarch in the hospital.
He used to visit regularly, but ever since the old man was hospitalized, the previous “Qin Ran” hadn’t called him to the villa, so this was his first time back in a while. When he saw Wen Qingyun again, he was shocked—she’d grown so thin and her complexion was so poor.
“She’s suffering from exhaustion—lack of sleep, low bl00d sugar, and a cold from the chills. Make sure she stays warm, eats on time and keep her diet light…
I brought fever meds for an IV injection to bring her temperature down for now. I’ll write prescriptions for the rest. You can pick them up from the hospital.
Most importantly, she needs plenty of rest and proper nutrition. As for her mental illness, I’ve said this before—don’t let her get emotionally agitated. If the environment is calm and her mood is good, she won’t spiral out of control.”
After silently checking over Wen Qingyun, Dr. Liang glanced at Qin Ran with a cool expression, his eyes were simmering with suppressed anger.
Any decent person would be furious.
Letting a wife with no ability to care for herself get chilled into a fever and starved into hypoglycemia… even Qin Ran felt like punching someone.
“Thank you, doctor. I understand. I’ll be more careful. She fell earlier and might have some bruises. Could you take a look and tell me what kind of ointment would help them heal faster?” Qin Ran asked. She was a bit embarrassed under his cold gaze.
“If there are no open wounds, a circulation-promoting spray will do. Within the first 48 hours, apply cold compresses for 20 minutes every 6 hours. After that, switch to warm compresses. I’ve written the prescription. You can pick it up along with the rest.” Dr. Liang replied.
“Got it. Thank you, Dr. Liang,” Qin Ran responded quickly.
After treating Wen Qingyun and administering the fever shot, Dr. Liang checked over Qin Ran’s neck at her request.
“The wound’s not deep. As long as it’s properly disinfected, you don’t need a tetanus shot. But if you’re worried, go to the hospital. I didn’t bring the vaccine with me.”
His tone was a little frosty, like he was quietly gloating.
Qin Ran didn’t take it personally and saw him out politely.
Even though Dr. Liang said she didn’t need the shot, Qin Ran thought it was better to be safe. She also wanted to buy some scar-reducing ointment. She didn’t know if the crescent-shaped marks on her neck would fade completely.
Since she had to go to the hospital anyway, Qin Ran called A’Mei over and asked her to look after Wen Qingyun.
“President Qin, I’m a Beta. I can help feed Miss Wen and bring her drinks, but it’s not really appropriate for me to help with things like changing clothes or applying medicine. Maybe… you should do it yourself, or hire an Omega caretaker. It used to be the old housekeeper who took care of her,” A’Mei said cautiously.
What A’Mei said made Qin Ran realize that in this house, the one closest to Wen Qingyun might be herself now. And realistically, she was the most suitable to take care of her at the moment.
She didn’t want to overstep or make Wen Qingyun uncomfortable.
In the past, the original “Qin Ran” had completely ignored Wen Qingyun’s needs and forced out the loyal old housekeeper who always sided with Wen Qingyun.
That kind of thing couldn’t happen again.
Because of Wen Qingyun’s sensory and motor coordination issues, she might have trouble dressing and feeding herself. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have developed hypoglycemia if someone had just brought her meals on time.
The first step would be to bring the old housekeeper back.
She had worked in the Wen household for over 20 years, and Wen Qingyun loved her like a mother. Their bond was deep.
In the original story, the old housekeeper died in an accident after being dismissed—a tragedy that Wen Qingyun also blamed on “Qin Ran.”
“…Alright, I’ll think of a solution. Go let the driver know I’m heading to the hospital. Oh, has Rou Rou woken up?” Qin Ran asked.
“She has. We didn’t have any new clothes that fit, so she’s still wearing her old ones. Should I get her ready to go with you?” A’Mei replied.
“Yes, bring her. We’ll get her some new clothes on the way back.” Qin Ran nodded.
She was heading to the Wen family’s private hospital—it was less crowded, and the VIP channel would let them skip the lines. Taking Rou Rou wouldn’t be a hassle.
A’Mei brought over Rou Rou, who was still clutching her piggy bank. Her big black eyes were full of confusion.
Qin Ran put on her jacket and she also put on a thick coat on Rou Rou’s. Then the two of them headed out.
As soon as they stepped outside, Rou Rou glanced longingly toward the greenhouse. She didn’t know yet that Wen Qingyun had been moved upstairs.
“Mommy’s sleeping right now. When we come back, I’ll take you to see her,” Qin Ran said, gently patting her head.
Rou Rou’s eyes widened in surprise, like she could barely believe it.
“Be good. I mean it. Let’s go get you some new clothes first. You’ll look beautiful, and Mommy will definitely be happy to see you,” Qin Ran added warmly. Rou Rou’s eyes lit up.
Qin Ran sighed. This child’s eyes could speak louder than her mouth. They were so expressive.
The two of them quickly got into the car. Qin Ran strapped Rou Rou into the child seat, and as the car started moving, she curiously looked out the window.
Qin Ran sat beside her and watched the scenery for a while. Then she looked down and started flipping through “Qin Ran’s” phone.
She finally had a moment of peace and decided to check through the messages—and maybe even try calling her real family.
Five years had passed. So much had changed.
She wondered how her parents were doing now.
From the memories she’d inherited, she knew that the transmigrator who took over her body had made a mess of her family. Her mother eventually cut ties with her, and her father fell ill from the stress.
Qin Ran couldn’t help feeling worried.
