- Chapter 25 - It’ll Be Over Soon
Jian Ya hadn’t been in this world for long.
Everything she knew about this world’s rules came from staying up late one night reading novels. That was when she learned some of the basic concepts of how things worked here.
But even in those stories, there was never any mention of what to do in a situation like this.
Looking at Shen Shuyi’s face twisted in pain, Jian Ya felt a wave of panic rise in her chest.
Still, even though she didn’t know what to do, she chose to trust Shen Shuyi’s earlier request.
Without hesitation, she scooped Shen Shuyi into her arms and quickly carried her into her private resting room.
Because this was a high-security lab, everyone was required to turn in their phones before entering. So Jian Ya had no choice but to use the landline phone in the room to call for emergency help.
She briefly described Shen Shuyi’s condition and gave their exact location. Once the call was done, she turned back to where Shen Shuyi was lying on the couch.
“Shen Shuyi, I called the ambulance. They’ll be here very soon,” Jian Ya said gently. “You’re not in good shape. I don’t know what’s going on, or if there’s anything I can do to help, so please, just tell me if there’s something I should do.”
But Shen Shuyi could no longer answer. Her consciousness was fading.
Pheromone Imbalance Syndrome was dangerous. No matter how strong someone’s willpower was, once the symptoms flared up, they couldn’t stop the waves of disruption in their body.
Her body felt like it was on fire, and it was only getting worse.
The heat pulsed through her uncontrollably. All she wanted was to find some way to release it, to escape the overwhelming pressure inside her.
Without realizing it, her hand reached up and started pulling at her collar. Her skin was drenched with sweat, and she was struggling just to stay still.
She twisted slightly on the couch, soft gasps escaping her lips. Her eyes were tightly shut, and every part of her expression showed how much pain she was in.
Jian Ya’s forehead was dripping with sweat as she stood there, helpless and anxious.
She even thought for a second about running to ask the others in the lab for help. Maybe someone else knew what to do in a situation like this.
But she stopped herself.
First, Shen Shuyi couldn’t be left alone in her condition. Not even for a second.
Second, Jian Ya had a strong feeling—she couldn’t explain why—that Shen Shuyi wouldn’t want anyone else to see her like this.
With no other choice, Jian Ya sat beside her and kept whispering softly, “Hold on just a little longer. The ambulance is on the way. It’ll be over soon.”
She repeated those words to Shen Shuyi, but also as if she needed to hear them herself.
She was sweating from head to toe. Seeing Shen Shuyi in so much pain made her chest ache, but the way Shen Shuyi moved and the way her skin flushed with heat stirred something else inside her too.
A strange warmth began to spread through Jian Ya’s body. It was unfamiliar and hard to ignore.
Could this be some kind of leftover instinct from the body she now inhabited?
That thought made her freeze. She didn’t dare move.
But when she saw Shen Shuyi’s trembling fingers reach up again, tugging at her collar and trying to pull her clothes off, Jian Ya could no longer stand still.
She rushed forward and gently grabbed Shen Shuyi’s hand, stopping her from pulling any further.
Carefully and quickly, she helped adjust Shen Shuyi’s clothes, trying to protect her dignity while keeping her safe and calm.
She couldn’t help but laugh bitterly in her heart.
Sister, please don’t do this to me.
If this continued any longer, by the time the ambulance arrived, anyone who walked in might assume she had done something inappropriate to Shen Shuyi. At that point, no amount of explanation would clear her name.
The moment Jian Ya held Shen Shuyi’s hand, her movements paused slightly.
Jian Ya’s hand was cold. When it touched Shen Shuyi’s overheated skin, it felt like a blessing in a drought—soothing and irresistible. Shen Shuyi instinctively craved more of that coolness.
It was too hot.
The burning sensation felt like it might consume her completely.
But with Jian Ya’s cool touch, the pain eased just enough to give her a sense of relief.
And for someone already overwhelmed by pain, even the slightest comfort was enough to spark an uncontrollable longing for more.
Even a fully conscious person might not be able to resist such urges, let alone someone whose mind was hazy and half-lost like Shen Shuyi was now.
Her other hand moved up to grip Jian Ya’s arm.
Then, her entire body leaned in. She inhaled Jian Ya’s scent, moving closer and closer.
The moment Shen Shuyi’s hands firmly held hers, Jian Ya sensed that something was wrong.
She felt Shen Shuyi’s fingertips brush along her arm, trailing up toward her neck, grazing her skin as they moved. Every touch sent a ripple of shivers through her.
Shen Shuyi didn’t stop. It was as if she had finally found something that could cool the burning inside her.
Her fingers lingered around Jian Ya’s neck, circling slowly. Every spot she touched made Jian Ya’s skin feel like it was catching fire, one area at a time.
It was a strange, indescribable feeling.
It felt oddly pleasant, but at the same time, there was a kind of restrained agony behind it.
Jian Ya had no idea what exactly was happening, nor did she dare to push Shen Shuyi away. Her entire body froze in place.
There was even a faint reddish glow in Jian Ya’s eyes, though Shen Shuyi didn’t notice. She kept exploring with her fingers, igniting sensation after sensation wherever she touched.
Finally, Shen Shuyi found the exact spot she had been seeking—the place that could calm the storm inside her.
Without warning, she pressed down hard on the back of Jian Ya’s neck.
In that moment, Jian Ya’s mind went completely blank.
An unfamiliar feeling spread through her body, rising from deep in her core. A strange sensation started forming low in her stomach, unfamiliar and hard to describe.
Alpha pheromones began to pour out from the gland at the back of her neck, blending with the lingering touch of Shen Shuyi’s fingertips.
Jian Ya opened her mouth slightly, letting out a shaky breath.
She quickly grabbed Shen Shuyi’s hand, which was still drifting near her shoulder, and held it firmly.
Using every ounce of her remaining self-control, she looked directly at Shen Shuyi and spoke.
“Shen Shuyi, I know you’re in a lot of pain right now, but please hold on. The ambulance will be here any minute.”
If this kept going, she wasn’t sure she could hold on either.
She could already feel her willpower breaking down under pressure she had never experienced before.
What scared her the most was the thought that if she lost control and did something that hurt Shen Shuyi, she would never forgive herself.
But Shen Shuyi didn’t seem to hear her at all.
Now that Jian Ya had stopped her hands, and she could no longer reach the coolness that had brought her relief, Shen Shuyi’s body became even more restless. Without warning, she leaned her whole body against Jian Ya.
Jian Ya’s eyes widened in shock.
She didn’t dare move, let alone push her away. Shen Shuyi wasn’t fully conscious, and she was afraid any sudden action might hurt her.
All she could do was try to gently shift back, hoping to create a little distance—enough for them both to breathe, to calm down.
But as soon as she moved back even slightly, Shen Shuyi instinctively followed.
Her arms wrapped around Jian Ya’s neck, and with a light pull, she brought their bodies closer again.
Then, Jian Ya felt something soft press against her skin.
In the next second, she realized that Shen Shuyi’s lips had brushed across her earlobe.
That one touch felt like a spark of electricity racing through Jian Ya’s entire body. It started at her ear and spread instantly across her skin.
It was like a jolt that exploded inside her mind, loud and overwhelming.
Something inside her had just been completely, irreversibly shaken.
