Li Wanqiu didn’t like Ji Jinyan’s restrained and proper demeanor. The first time they met, she laid down a clear line:
“I’m not interested in anyone older than me.”
She thought Ji Jinyan would be infuriated. But to her surprise, Ji Jinyan didn’t seem even the slightest bit upset. Instead, she simply curved her lips into a faint smile, calm and composed, as if she were looking at a three-year-old child—completely indifferent, like she didn’t take Li Wanqiu seriously at all.
Li Wanqiu was annoyed.
She quickly recognized that the two of them weren’t the same kind of people. Instinctively, she wanted to keep her distance. Yet somehow, fate kept pulling them together—when she got lost, Ji Jinyan guided her; when she was drunk, Ji Jinyan held her; even on business trips, their rooms always ended up right next to each other.
At a banquet, Li Wanqiu got drunk again. In a haze, she hooked her fingers around Ji Jinyan’s collar and challenged her, but instead, Ji Jinyan seized her wrists, eyes deep and steady, and gave her a quiet, piercing lesson.
Word by word, Ji Jinyan spoke in a low voice that made Li Wanqiu’s cheeks flush. She froze for a moment before finally processing what she’d heard. With tears in her eyes, she asked:
“What did you say? Isn’t your name Jinyan…?”
Before she could finish, Ji Jinyan leaned in and kissed her. Then she raised an eyebrow with a faint smile and said softly:
“That’s right. I’ve always lived up to the name Jinyan—‘disciplined in speech.’”
“But caution? That has nothing to do with me.”
Later, after finally mustering the courage, Li Wanqiu slipped her a small note, nervously asking:
“Do you… hate me?”
That night, she received a bouquet of blooming daisies. Hidden inside was a folded piece of paper. When she opened it, she saw that the word “Hate” had been crossed out and replaced with a sincere confession:
“No.”
“If anything, I’m already too late in falling for you.”

“The moment I saw you, my soul scattered. The stars above and all the warmth in my heart—I give them all to you.”
