After Being Forced to Kiss My Superior (GL) - Chapter 22
After visiting the client, the three of them had a simple meal together, then went shopping for souvenirs.
The popular store Song Yu had recommended turned out to be great. It mostly sold candy and desserts, all with cute designs and elegant packaging. There were also many beautifully made dolls and accessories.
Li Wanqiu took her time choosing a few items. By the time they stepped outside, the sky had already turned cloudy.
It looked like another heavy rain was coming.
“The weather forecast was way off today,” Lu Ye said as he looked up at the sky. His voice carried a hint of complaint. “Good thing I have an umbrella in the car.”
“President Ji, you two wait here for a moment,” he said as he pulled the car keys out of his pocket. “I’ll drive the car over.”
With that, he walked away quickly. Just three or four minutes later, the rain started to fall, just as expected.
Li Wanqiu and Ji Jinyan remained where they were, standing together under the eaves to avoid the rain. They took in the scenery and watched the people passing by. Even though it was raining, there were still plenty of visitors in the area taking photos.
Lu Ye still had not returned. He might have been delayed by traffic.
“Are you cold?” Ji Jinyan asked after a short silence.
“I’m okay,” Li Wanqiu replied, shaking her head. “My jacket is warm enough.”
“That’s good,” Ji Jinyan said with a slight smile.
“Mm,” Li Wanqiu nodded. She took a few steps further inside to avoid getting her shopping bags wet. As she adjusted them, she suddenly remembered the lollipop she had bought especially for Ji Jinyan the night before. She quickly pulled it from her pocket.
“Would you like a lollipop?” she asked.
“Sure,” Ji Jinyan answered.
“Is strawberry flavor okay?” Li Wanqiu turned to check her preference. When Ji Jinyan nodded, she looked down and carefully unwrapped the candy, then held it out to her.
She had expected Ji Jinyan to take it from her hand. Instead, Ji Jinyan leaned forward and bit the lollipop directly from her fingers.
Her hair was down today, and as she moved, her strands brushed against the back of Li Wanqiu’s hand. The touch was soft and slightly ticklish.
Li Wanqiu froze. Her right hand twitched involuntarily. Looking up from that angle, she could see Ji Jinyan’s lowered eyelashes. They were long and delicate. She looked beautiful, quietly seductive.
“You…” Li Wanqiu hesitated, unsure of what to say.
“Sorry,” Ji Jinyan blinked and looked at her. “My hands are full.”
There was a playful tone in her voice. The sweet strawberry scent mixed into her words, making it warm and pleasant.
For some reason, Li Wanqiu suddenly felt a tingling sensation in her fingertips.
“It’s fine,” she said softly, shaking her head. She paused for a few seconds and was just about to speak again when Lu Ye appeared in her line of sight. Since time was short, Li Wanqiu said nothing more and followed Ji Jinyan into the car.
By the time she sat down and got settled, she had already forgotten what she had wanted to say.
Just then, Lu Ye casually turned on the stereo. A soft melody played, blending gently with the sound of rain outside. The combination was surprisingly calming.
A moment later, he glanced back at them and asked, “President Ji, are we heading back to Bixia tonight?”
Ji Jinyan nodded. “Yes. I need to make a quick stop there.”
“Then please rest your eyes for a bit. I’ll drop Miss Li off first,” Lu Ye said with a smile. He turned forward again and started the car, making a turn at the next intersection.
Hearing this, Li Wanqiu was caught off guard and quickly shook her head. “It’s okay. You don’t have to worry about me.”
It was raining heavily, and she didn’t want to inconvenience anyone. So she added, “Just go straight to the winery. I can take a cab home.”
“It won’t take long,” Ji Jinyan said before Lu Ye could respond. Her voice was calm and firm. “There’s no rush.”
“That’s really too much trouble,” Li Wanqiu said, sounding a little embarrassed.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Lu Ye said, meeting her eyes in the rearview mirror with a cheerful smile. “I’m happy to help.”
Just like she had said earlier, everyone at Bixia really was warm and considerate. Li Wanqiu felt touched by his words. Refusing again would seem rude, so she nodded and accepted the gesture.
“Thank you,” she said. During a red light, she handed Lu Ye a lollipop.
“Li Wanqiu,” Ji Jinyan turned her head slightly and looked at her. Her voice was soft. “Aren’t you having one too?”
“I am,” Li Wanqiu replied. She reached into her pocket and pulled out another lollipop. Looking down, she saw it was also strawberry flavored.
A few seconds later, as if something had just occurred to her, she slowly put the candy back.
“What’s wrong?” Ji Jinyan asked, clearly amused as if she had seen right through her.
“It’s nothing,” Li Wanqiu said, shaking her head. After a short pause, she added, “I just don’t feel like eating strawberry today.”
“I’ll pick another one.”
By the time they entered the city, night had already begun to fall.
Lu Ye got out of the car midway. Something had come up at home, so he could not continue the trip to Bixia with them.
“It’s fine. You’ve worked hard these past few days,” Ji Jinyan said with a small shake of her head. She moved to the driver’s seat and sat down. “There’s not much going on tomorrow. Take the day to rest at home.”
“Thank you,” Lu Ye said gratefully. He nodded and quickly walked into his apartment complex.
Li Wanqiu waved goodbye. When she turned her head back, she suddenly noticed that Ji Jinyan was watching her.
“I remember there’s a restaurant nearby that’s pretty good,” she said afterward. “Would you like to grab a meal together?”
It was getting late, and Li Wanqiu was indeed starting to feel a bit hungry.
But work was still on her mind, so she did not immediately agree. Instead, she asked, “Are you in a hurry?”
“It’s fine,” Ji Jinyan replied. “We’re not pressed for time.”
Just like she had said earlier in the car. The same line again.
“Alright then,” Li Wanqiu nodded and did not turn her down. She stepped out of the car with her umbrella and walked into the rain alongside Ji Jinyan.
Just as they were about to reach the restaurant, Yan Weiwei’s call came in. Li Wanqiu gave Ji Jinyan a quick glance to signal her before lowering her eyes to answer the phone.
This restaurant was famous for its grilled fish. Not only was the flavor excellent, but guests could also choose the fish themselves. After placing the order, the server politely asked which of them had time to come along and select the fish.
“I’ll go,” Ji Jinyan said with a smile and stood up. As if remembering something, she paused and asked, “Is there anything you’d like to eat? I can grab it for you.”
“I’ll get it myself in a bit. Thank you,” Li Wanqiu replied softly.
Even though her voice was not loud, Yan Weiwei still heard it clearly through the phone.
It happened to be raining heavily that day, and Yan Weiwei’s outing plans had been ruined. She had been in the middle of complaining, but upon realizing that Li Wanqiu was not alone, her irritation faded and her curiosity quickly took over.
She asked, “You’re eating out? Who are you with?”
“With Ji Jinyan,” Li Wanqiu replied.
“You two are having dinner together again?” Yan Weiwei laughed as soon as she heard that. “And you’re still saying there’s nothing going on between you two?”
Her voice was filled with amusement and was a bit loud.
“Stop talking nonsense,” Li Wanqiu responded instinctively as she glanced toward the direction where Ji Jinyan had gone. Seeing she had not yet returned, she let out a small sigh of relief. “We just finished a business trip. I was a little hungry, so we decided to grab something nearby.”
“Is that so?” Yan Weiwei asked.
“Yes,” Li Wanqiu nodded.
“Alright then,” Yan Weiwei said, though she sounded slightly disappointed. She did not push further and quickly changed the topic, asking what Li Wanqiu planned to do over the upcoming holiday.
Li Wanqiu gave it some thought and was just about to answer when she noticed Ji Jinyan returning, holding a plate of fruit.
Li Wanqiu looked over instinctively. The plate had orange slices, pieces of watermelon, and a few plump cherry tomatoes. The tomatoes were vibrant and round, looking very sweet. Without realizing it, her gaze lingered a little longer.
“Want one?” Ji Jinyan seemed to notice and picked up a tomato, handing it to her.
Li Wanqiu was still talking to Yan Weiwei and could not quite focus. When Ji Jinyan reached out, she instinctively leaned forward and bit the tomato straight from her hand.
“Thank you,” she said quietly, her voice a little muffled, soft, and slightly endearing.
Yan Weiwei picked up on the strangeness in her tone and asked curiously, “Li Wanqiu, what are you thanking someone for? Are you eating something?”
As soon as she heard that, Li Wanqiu realized what she had just done. She froze completely.
At that exact moment, the cherry tomato in her mouth burst. It tasted just as sweet as she had imagined, juicy and rich, and it filled her mouth so fully that she could not speak for a while.
Her cheeks, without her even noticing, slowly began to blush.
