After Being Targeted By A Sweet Girl With Big Eyes - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Arguing
The taxi driver looked at the two people shrinking in the rear-view mirror and let out a large sigh. Young people nowadays, their tempers are incredibly volatile.
Jiang Ruyi and Fu Tian sat in the restaurant and ordered their food. One of them simply didn’t want to talk and buried her head in her phone; the other simply wanted to provoke her and stared intently.
Jiang Ruyi clenched her fist and steeled her resolve, opening her mouth fiercely: “Look, look, what are you looking at? Haven’t you seen gossip, haven’t you seen a lesbian? Also, I refuse to answer any of your questions.”
The remark completely cornered Fu Tian, but she didn’t indulge her. “I don’t mind. I’m just very happy to see you got dumped by your girlfriend—oh, sorry, ex-girlfriend.”
Jiang Ruyi had never encountered Fu Tian being so direct, speaking her mind so openly. She was instantly rendered speechless. She had been hurt too many times today and refused to hear any more news about her ex-girlfriend.
Jiang Ruyi had expected to lose her appetite because she was eating with Fu Tian, but when the food arrived, the aroma completely captivated her. She instantly forgot her earlier sulking and started eating heartily.
Fu Tian matched her bite for bite. Seeing her eat, Jiang Ruyi had assumed she was someone like Fan Ling who maintained her figure by severely restricting carbs. She hadn’t expected such a good dining partner. She immediately forgot her grudge with Fu Tian. “Hey, you can really eat!”
“No energy to sing if I don’t eat enough. Of course, I have to eat well.”
“Exactly! Exactly! This is the right attitude towards food. You… you… you’re great!” She gave Fu Tian a thumbs-up.
Fu Tian replied, “Thank you, thank you. You’re great too.”
Oh my god, people who enjoy eating should totally be eating partners. The dining chemistry is intense!
“Rice is oishii (delicious)!”
The meal actually made Jiang Ruyi view Fu Tian favorably. However, after they finished and were standing by the road to catch a taxi, Fu Tian informed her that rehearsal would take place first and the formal makeup wouldn’t start until around 6:00 PM. Jiang Ruyi exploded.
“Fu Tian, are you sick? I knew it! Even if the venue has AC, it makes no sense to have a farewell stage in the afternoon. You’re supposed to have your official show at 7:00 PM. Why did you ask me to come at 10:30 AM? Do you have nothing better to do all day?”
“Oh, come on, I was just worried that it would be too hot for you to come in the afternoon, or that you might be late due to traffic or some other reason. This is my last stage, after all. It’s normal for me to take it seriously.”
Jiang Ruyi…
She thought the reason was 50% plausible, so she was somewhat convinced. “Fine. This is your band’s last farewell stage, and I won’t argue with you. If you dare to trick me again next time… forget it. Once this is over, our debt is settled, and we won’t interact much anymore.”
Fu Tian held Jiang Ruyi’s arm and shook it playfully. “Don’t be like that! Don’t! I actually quite like you. Look how compatible we are when we eat!”
“Thanks. I like myself too. There are plenty of people who are compatible to eat with. If I wanted to find one, the line would stretch from here to New Zealand.”
Fu Tian paused. “Why New Zealand?”
“Because I like New Zealand! Why else? Always asking ‘why, why, why.’ There aren’t that many ‘whys’ to ask.”
The two got into a taxi and headed towards the venue. Fu Tian led Jiang Ruyi backstage, where she saw the people from the day before gathered together.
Tan Huiyun clearly noticed them. “The lead singer is here!”
She walked closer before recognizing the person whose outfit was drastically different from yesterday. “Hey, Jiang Ruyi! Why are you here today? Fu Tiantian, are you two friends? Why didn’t any of us know?”
Everyone looked over. Jiang Ruyi pointed at Fu Tian. “Don’t ask me. Ask her.”
Fu Tian didn’t answer directly. She wasn’t sure if Jiang Ruyi would embarrass her in public. “Yes, well, I asked her to come help me with my makeup.”
“Oh, you’re Jiang Ruyi! Thank you for yesterday! I’m Sun Yanli. You can just call me Little Sun.” Sun Yanli came over, radiating enthusiasm, and spoke with Jiang Ruyi in a frank and likable way.
“Why shouldn’t I call you Pear?” Jiang Ruyi asked casually.
“Because my mom likes to eat pears. I don’t like pears~”
Jiang Ruyi leaned in, saw her clearly, and exclaimed happily, “Hey, it really is you! I was in that traffic jam yesterday too. I was right behind you. I saw you get out of the car and direct traffic—you’re so selfless! You’re really interesting. Let’s exchange contact info.”
“Sure, sure! You were stuck in traffic yesterday? We must be fated! The sun was so brutal yesterday; everyone was wilting in their cars. I only moved forward a bit and found out the traffic light was broken, and I just got a burst of enthusiasm and went down to direct. But it’s my honor if I could help you.”
The two exchanged contacts while talking and even made plans to play music together sometime. Fu Tian stood silently behind them, watching to see when they would finally notice her, the person who was being completely ignored.
Haha. Of course, they didn’t. They completely failed to notice her. Finally, the rehearsal staff called all the members of Sunset Pact over to prepare for the rehearsal, and the two separated.
Fu Tian: Not funny at all.
…
Jiang Ruyi was bored. She didn’t know the other staff members, so she could only stay backstage and play on her phone. Watch them rehearse? Who’s interested? Who’s interested? She wasn’t. She continued to urge Fan Ling to come over and play with her.
Fan Ling didn’t reply. Jiang Ruyi received a call from her sister, Wang Rumeng.
Jiang Ruyi knew from Wang Rumeng’s tone that she was up to no good. She said impatiently, “What do you want? I’m busy.”
Wang Rumeng chuckled. “Your little broken band has disbanded. How busy could you possibly be?”
Jiang Ruyi…
“Can’t I have my own social circle and be busy with my own things? Not everyone is like you, running between home and work every day. People need to socialize, you understand?”
Wang Rumeng scoffed, as if listening to an unbelievable tale. “Jiang Ruyi, just give it up. With your rotten mouth, what do you know about socializing? If you did, would you have ended up with such a messy breakup with your bandmates?”
“Is that my fault? It was the fault of those jerks! Whatever, that’s ancient history. I’m too lazy to argue with you. What exactly do you want? You have one minute to explain clearly.”
“Ah~” Wang Rumeng kicked her desk and spun around in her office chair. “When are you coming home? I was worried you’d be bored after being laid off, so I prepared a surprise for you. You’ll only know when you get home, though.”
“The sun must be rising in the west! What surprise did you get me? Tell me first! If I don’t like it, you can get me a new one.”
“Dream on. This gift is non-refundable and non-exchangeable.”
“Fine. It’s a nice gesture from you, so I’ll graciously accept it. I promise I won’t badmouth you to the family when I get back.”
…
Just as Jiang Ruyi hung up the phone, she heard someone walk in, muttering, “Ruyi, Ruyi, fulfill my wish, show your magic quickly.”
A thin man with slender arms and legs, wearing a large tank top and baggy shorts, walked in. His apple-top hairstyle bounced unpleasantly with his exaggerated, flailing arm movements.
Jiang Ruyi pursed her lips. Why are all the people in Sunset Pact so unlikable to her?
The man walked straight toward Jiang Ruyi, stopped in front of her, jutted his hip to the right, crossed his arms, and his left hand stuck out with a delicate pinky. His overly long, narcissistic fingernails nearly poked Jiang Ruyi in the face. Could Jiang Ruyi tolerate this?
Of course, Jiang Ruyi couldn’t. Where did this strange guy come from, acting so aggressively? Before the man could fully articulate his word, Jiang Ruyi grabbed his fingers and effortlessly “repaired and upgraded” him into a double-fold.
The man yelled in pain. Seeing that his suffering wasn’t feigned, Jiang Ruyi was satisfied and let go of his hand. She didn’t say much, just looked around for a wet wipe to clean her hands.
“Hey, Jiang Ruyi, do you have any manners? That hurts!”
“Do you have manners? Do you have manners, putting your hand in my face?”
The man conceded he was in the wrong and pouted strangely as he stood straight again. “Sister, don’t be so aggressive. Talk nicely. You’re being so crude.”
Jiang Ruyi pulled out a wet wipe and meticulously cleaned her fingers, one by one, without looking up. “Did you get the surgery? If not, who’s your ‘sister’? I hate these pretentious gay guys the most. You think wearing dirty, messy clothes makes you ‘relaxed,’ but you’re actually carefully cultivating the image of ‘I’m talented, but I’m too lazy to care,’ right? What are you hoping for in your heart? Say what you need to say, or get lost if you don’t. You’re an eyesore.”
The people around, eavesdropping on the commotion, gasped internally. Although they didn’t exactly reject the man, his overly effeminate style had genuinely offended many people at times. If he weren’t the makeup artist assigned by the company, who would tolerate him? To be blunt, it takes an evil person to tame another evil person. This is satisfying!
Everyone here was supposed to be civilized, so few people would embarrass him over a small matter, which allowed him to maintain his “mean gay” persona. Now that Jiang Ruyi had called him out, the man’s expression faltered. He awkwardly laughed to save face. “Oh, you shouldn’t talk like that. Let me introduce myself. I’m Beat.”
Jiang Ruyi gave a cold sneer, scanned him from head to toe, and scoffed, “Oh, really?”
Seeing that the conversation was at least continuing normally, Beat breathed a sigh of relief. “Of course! Why would I lie to you?”
“Get to the point,” Jiang Ruyi said, not bothering to look at him. She sat down, haughty and aloof, crossing her legs and scrolling through her phone.
“Ah, I’m Fu Tian’s makeup artist. I heard from the staff that Fu Tian doesn’t want me to do her makeup this time. I’m very curious. Is she dissatisfied with my makeup? I’ve never heard her complain before, and I see her usually sporting my style. Also, you’re an amateur, after all. This is Sunset Pact’s last farewell stage. I hope you take this seriously.”
Listening to the man’s overly affected speech, Jiang Ruyi felt her ears were dirty. Her expression completely lost control, as if a summer-fermented garbage can full of rotten fish and shrimp had just opened in front of her.
Her brain rapidly formulated a response, determined to extinguish the man’s smug flame. However, before she could utter a word, a message popped up on her phone screen. Jiang Ruyi’s cold glance at it caused her face to go through a thousand changes in expression.
Jiang Ruyi instantly lost all desire to argue with the man. She grabbed a backstage staff badge and bolted out the door without warning.
The door slammed shut, waking the stunned onlookers.
Beat: Such weak fighting power.
Other staff: It’s over! That person just chased the lead singer’s makeup artist away.
