After Breaking Up, I Shared an Apartment With My Best Friend and Her Boyfriend (H) - 57
Chapter 57: She Just Admitted It Like That
Chen Qiao reached out to take it, noticing how neatly he had folded it, which clearly meant he had already looked it over.
“Thanks.”
Xu Yanqi added a bit more, saying, “A house in this area has pretty good potential for appreciation.”
The invoice Chen Qiao had given him back then was indeed for property management, but it was just for paying the property maintenance fund.
She had bought a residence in Jiang City, and the location was not the best, but Xu Yanqi had sent that location to a friend for an assessment, and for future development, it really did have strong potential for appreciation.
Chen Qiao said, “I didn’t think about the appreciation potential. I just wanted a place to settle in Jiang City.”
“Staying at your place for this time was also about having a spot to land for a month or two, so I wouldn’t have to rent outside and waste a deposit.”
Xu Yanqi certainly had not expected her to work two jobs so hard just to buy a house, and that sharing rent with him was only about having a temporary landing spot.
Xu Yanqi kept listening as she went on, “For the new house I bought, I still want to leave it empty for a month or two. I’m a bit worried about the formaldehyde from those new pieces of furniture I brought in, even though the house was a second-hand purchase and the renovations had already sat empty for half a year under the previous owner. But I still feel like the soft furnishings need some airing out.”
For some reason, just hearing her chat with him about such ordinary things made Xu Yanqi feel as if the bright moon had lit up the path ahead of him.
The house Xu Yanqi had now in the community was also rented, only because it was close to his startup company; he had his own place in the city center, bought for him by his family.
So he had never thought about buying a house, only having clear plans for his career.
“By the way, don’t you need to keep Wen Sui company?”
Chen Qiao thought of how Wen Sui had not come and mentioned it to him.
But he picked up the glass of wine on the table again, brought it to his lips for a sip, turned his gaze to the center of the stage, and said in a calm tone,
“Listening to the song.”
Chen Qiao just sat there with Xu Yanqi like that, seriously listening through the song that Xu Jiaming sang, the one he had composed himself.
Chen Qiao often felt that sitting under the stage listening to Xu Jiaming sing was an ultimate kind of enjoyment.
After all, the songs he made were all very healing, and hearing them brought a sense of soothing and comfort to the heart.
Until that song ended, Chen Qiao was so absorbed in listening that she lingered in the lingering echoes that touched the heart, to the point that she did not even notice Xu Yanqi staring at her profile, watching it for a long time.
When she finally came back to herself, Xu Yanqi looked into her eyes and asked her out loud,
“You like Xu Jiaming, don’t you.”
As the words fell, in the moment their gazes crossed, Chen Qiao cleared her throat a little and admitted to him.
“I liked him once.”
She admitted it just like that, which caught Xu Yanqi off guard a bit.
A depth surged up in his eyes that no one could touch, and Xu Yanqi lowered his head slightly, then slowly lifted the wine glass again to take a gulp, his brows furrowing as he felt that heat burning from the tip of his tongue all the way down his throat to his stomach.
For the first time, he found this bottle of wine that Xu Jiaming had kept, the one he used to like drinking, to be both spicy and bitterly astringent right then.
“I liked you too, Xu Yanqi.”
Chen Qiao spoke up, staring at Xu Yanqi as he drank alone.
It was another sudden catch off guard, making him draw in a deep breath; he slowly set down the wine glass in his hand, raised his eyes, and looked at her with a hazy gaze.
“What did you say?”
Chen Qiao’s clear voice answered him, “I said, I liked him once, and I liked you too.”
In that instant, it was as if the whole world had gone still.
Xu Yanqi’s hands clenched slightly, and in his ears, only her words kept drifting by, delicate and lingering.
