Chapter 30: You Are My Best Friend
Wen Sui took off her high heels and squatted barefoot on the floor. While opening her suitcase and taking out her pajamas and face mask, she chatted with Chen Qiao. “Also, I feel he’s acting really weird. It showed in his behavior today. Just now, when he saw me, he didn’t even let me hug him for long.”
After speaking, Chen Qiao sat on the bed, looking at Wen Sui squatting on the floor with a face full of complaints. This was a side of her Wen Sui only showed to Chen Qiao, not to Xu Yanqi.
“He just got back too.”
Chen Qiao replied to Wen Sui calmly.
She actually didn’t know why Xu Yanqi came back so early today.
As for the strangeness Wen Sui mentioned, Chen Qiao explained, “Maybe Xu Yanqi was surprised by you.”
After Chen Qiao’s explanation, Wen Sui felt much lighter. “Maybe. Maybe my sudden appearance really caught him off guard.”
Chen Qiao helped her put away the pajamas and face mask that were casually thrown on the bed. Without stopping her movements or looking up, she asked Wen Sui, “Why did you come back today?”
Wen Sui looked up and said, “In two days, it’s the two-year anniversary of me and Xu Yanqi being together. Of course, I had to come back, even though we’re still in a cold war.”
After speaking, Chen Qiao was a bit surprised. She didn’t expect that in two days, Wen Sui and Xu Yanqi would have been together for two years.
Time passed so quickly. Chen Qiao often felt like Wen Sui and Xu Yanqi getting together was just yesterday.
And that night at the small bar, the burning gaze in Xu Yanqi’s eyes, which always made her heart skip a beat, felt like it was still vivid from last night.
“You said you wouldn’t give in, right?”
Chen Qiao asked Wen Sui after a moment of distraction.
Wen Sui pulled Chen Qiao to sit down. “Qiao Qiao, you know me best. I can be tough with anyone, but I can’t be tough with Xu Yanqi.”
She blinked. “Those words were just talk.”
Chen Qiao did know Wen Sui well. So when Wen Sui confidently said those things on the video call, Chen Qiao didn’t argue. She just listened quietly.
Even now, asking Wen Sui this question was just something Chen Qiao said because she didn’t know what else to say.
She didn’t talk much. Most of the time, she stayed silent if she could. But she also knew that right now, Wen Sui needed her to start talking to ease her current unease.
After all, she was in a cold war with the man living across from them.
“Xu Yanqi always likes to put himself above everyone else. He acts like he’s not afraid of losing me.”
Wen Sui propped her hands on the bed, staring at her knees. She let out an unhappy huff through her high nose. “It’s that attitude of his and his unique charm that attract me, making me fall for him without control. Otherwise, I…”
At this point, Wen Sui couldn’t bring herself to say harsh words and stopped herself.
“It feels like nothing in this world can make Xu Yanqi give in.”
Wen Sui let out a slightly sad sigh, stating it plainly.
Chen Qiao glanced at her. She knew Wen Sui loved Xu Yanqi.
But she also knew Xu Yanqi didn’t love Wen Sui as much.
Their values didn’t align, and they weren’t compatible sexually either. Xu Yanqi had strong desires, while Wen Sui didn’t care about that.
At this moment, Wen Sui, who loved Xu Yanqi, felt deeply insecure. She never showed this insecurity to outsiders, only to Chen Qiao.
Then, Wen Sui paused and met Chen Qiao’s gaze. “Qiao Qiao, you’ve spent so much time with Xu Yanqi. What do you think? Is he attractive enough?”
Chen Qiao didn’t expect her to ask this. She frowned at Wen Sui. “It’s not right for you to ask me that. You’re my best friend, and he’s your boyfriend.”
