Chapter 32: What Are You Doing in the Hallway?
Wen Sui came out of the bathroom quickly, not giving Xu Yanqi a chance to answer Chen Qiao.
“What are you two doing in the hallway?”
Wen Sui walked up to them with her freshly washed hands, her eyes slightly surprised, not understanding why they were both in the hallway at the same time.
Chen Qiao explained naturally, “I ran out of makeup remover pads. I’m going to the supermarket to buy some.”
After speaking, she lowered her gaze to the floor and started walking out.
“Qiao Qiao, I brought some!”
Wen Sui quickly called out to Chen Qiao, telling her she had some in her makeup bag.
Chen Qiao turned back, her clear eyes staring at Wen Sui. After a pause, she openly declined, “No need. I’ll have to buy some anyway.”
As she spoke, Wen Sui wanted to say something more, but Chen Qiao glanced at her, then at Xu Yanqi, and pursed her lips. “You two need some time alone.”
Chen Qiao meant she was leaving on purpose to give Wen Sui a chance to be alone with Xu Yanqi.
Hearing this, Wen Sui looked at Chen Qiao with gratitude, but her words were still sharp. “I don’t want to be with him, Qiao Qiao. I’ll wait for you to come back.”
After Chen Qiao grabbed her jacket and left, only Wen Sui and Xu Yanqi remained in the hallway. The man looked up, and Wen Sui thought he was going to look at her. She deliberately flicked the hair on her forehead, revealing the faint mole between her brows.
In the past, Xu Yanqi would touch that mole with his fingers. Though it was faint, Wen Sui knew it was the highlight of her face, very unique and eye-catching.
After all, countless admirers had loved that blooming mole between her brows since she was young.
She thought the man in front of her would gently touch her brow with his slender fingertips, a sensation like an electric current that would instantly spread through her body, stirring her heart.
But unexpectedly, Xu Yanqi brushed past her shoulder. He walked to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and returned to the hallway. As Wen Sui watched him closely, he ignored her and went straight into his room.
In that moment, Wen Sui’s heart pounded.
She even quietly pinched herself, thinking she had seen it wrong, that she had imagined that scene in her mind.
But the truth was, it happened. Xu Yanqi not only didn’t greet her but calmly sat at his desk in his room, drinking water while focusing on his laptop.
Though his room’s door stayed open, as if left open for her, like he was saying, “Wen Sui, if you choose to come in, I won’t hold it against you.”
Wen Sui fought the urge to rush into Xu Yanqi’s room. Her reason told her she had to stick to her principles.
Then, when Xu Yanqi suddenly turned and his gaze shifted from the laptop’s planning chart to her, Wen Sui knew he was looking at her. She quickly turned her back and walked into Chen Qiao’s room.
Wen Sui closed the door and leaned against it for a long time, so long that her feet, still in high heels, went numb.
Normally, when she came to Xu Yanqi’s place, he would have slippers ready for her as soon as she walked in.
Today, though she showed up unexpectedly, even after being in the house for a while, Xu Yanqi forgot to prepare slippers for her.
Even Chen Qiao noticed and offered her slippers, but Wen Sui stubbornly refused, waiting for Xu Yanqi to realize.
“Knock, knock.”
There was a knock at the door.
Wen Sui thought Chen Qiao was back, but then she realized Chen Qiao hadn’t been gone long. Her hand paused on the doorknob, and she heard Xu Yanqi speak outside.
“We’re out of vinegar. I’m going out to buy a bottle.”
His voice carried a cold edge.
“Oh.”
Wen Sui didn’t say much. Her hand slowly dropped from the doorknob, and she responded to him with a proud tone.
In truth, Wen Sui was very warm with people she knew, but with strangers, she exuded an aloof, unapproachable air.
Cold as the peak of an iceberg was how everyone felt when they first saw Wen Sui, including Chen Qiao.
So, some people needed to get very close to her to understand what she was really like in private.
Xu Yanqi left.
After Wen Sui’s response, his gaze was as cold as a star, and he walked away decisively, slamming the door shut.
When Chen Qiao received Xu Yanqi’s WeChat message, she was downstairs, lost in thought. She hadn’t gone to the supermarket to buy makeup remover pads as she said.
“Rooftop.”
That was the message Xu Yanqi sent to Chen Qiao.
