Chapter 45: Scratched by Someone’s Nails
Wen Sui demanded, “Xu Yanqi, you better explain yourself today!”
The argument started because Wen Sui noticed Xu Yanqi’s shirt was wrinkled. She wanted to take a selfie with him, so she told him to change his clothes.
Xu Yanqi was sitting at his computer desk and didn’t move. Later, Wen Sui picked a shirt from his wardrobe and handed it to him, insisting he change.
When he finally agreed and unbuttoned two buttons of his shirt, Wen Sui saw a large red mark on his chest, like it was scratched by someone’s nails.
Wen Sui couldn’t stand still. She panicked and questioned him without thinking.
Xu Yanqi was working on an architectural design on his computer, stressed and busy. He casually explained, “I scratched it myself.”
But how could Wen Sui believe him? She only trusted what she wanted to believe.
“Tell me, Xu Yanqi, is it because we’re long-distance? Do寻
Xu Yanqi didn’t like her unreasonable accusations. His eyes narrowed slightly.
“I’m saying it one last time, Wen Sui. I scratched it myself.”
Wen Sui was caught in extreme emotions, trembling as she asked, “Xu Yanqi, I’m asking you one last time. Who scratched you? Tell me! Is it some vixen from your company?”
For the first time, Xu Yanqi found Wen Sui unreasonable. A wave of irritation surged through him.
He chose his usual tactic of ignoring her.
But his silence and coldness, especially on such a key issue, was unbearable for Wen Sui. She had her own pride.
Without hesitation, she yanked open Xu Yanqi’s door and stormed out.
Ignoring the pouring rain outside, Wen Sui’s tall figure brushed past Chen Qiao, who was about to leave, and snatched her umbrella.
But Wen Sui didn’t know that just an umbrella wouldn’t keep her dry. Jiang City’s rain required a raincoat.
She thought Xu Yanqi would chase after her, given the heavy rain, but he stayed in the room, unmoving. At that moment, the delivery arrived.
Chen Qiao took the delivery for Xu Yanqi and placed the ingredients in the kitchen. Then she turned and went to his room.
Standing outside, she looked at the man focused on his designs at the computer desk and said gently, “Xu Yanqi, the ingredients you ordered are here. I put them in the kitchen.”
Hearing Chen Qiao call his name, something stirred in Xu Yanqi’s heart. His fingers paused on the mouse, and his dark eyes looked at her.
Chen Qiao saw his open shirt, revealing the clear scratch marks on his chest. Her eyes widened, pointing at the spot.
“That’s from me…”
She had overheard most of his argument with Wen Sui.
Before she could finish, Xu Yanqi interrupted, explaining, “It’s not from you. Yours are on my thighs, shoulders, neck, and waist.”
He meant it in one way, but to Chen Qiao, his words carried multiple meanings.
Chen Qiao nervously tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, then heard Xu Yanqi say, “I really did scratch it myself by accident, but she doesn’t believe me.”
Xu Yanqi often felt suffocated and oppressed by Wen Sui’s accusations. Expressionless, he said, “This isn’t the first time.”
Seeing Chen Qiao stay silent, Xu Yanqi noticed the raincoat draped over her arm and asked in a low voice, “Are you going to work?”
Chen Qiao nodded.
Xu Yanqi glanced at the time on his computer, then suddenly stood up. He closed his unfinished design file, tidied his computer, and walked to her, saying, “You still have time before work, right? Want to eat the food I make?”
At his words, Chen Qiao’s eyes shot up, meeting his gaze. Though his eyes seemed calm, they held a hidden intensity.
That intensity could unleash a storm at any moment.
