After Cat A Saved the Wrong Female Lead - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: A Rain That Never Ends
In April, Huadu was often soaked in a misty drizzle. The persistent, pattering rain veiled the towering buildings in moisture, finally revealing the gentle temperament of this southern city. The misty veil blurred the view outside. Tang Li lay sprawled across the bar counter as her phone buzzed and vibrated incessantly.
“If you keep this up, don’t even bother coming back.”
“You’re a disgrace to our family!”
“Seriously, you’re not getting any younger, and you’ve achieved nothing. What are you going to say when you see the old matriarch?!”
“Achoo!”
Tang Li sneezed. She had a strange feeling someone was cursing her behind her back. Well, whoever was texting clearly sounded disappointed, firing off messages one after another. Tang Li typed slowly, so she simply gave up replying, tucked her phone away, and headed toward the bedroom.
She was in a hotel—just a single suite with everything from a small bar to a full kitchen. Tang Li had only just gained control of this body. The original owner had been drinking alone, and when Tang Li transmigrated, she felt an inexplicable fire burning in her chest. She quickly patted her chest.
Don’t get mad, don’t get mad. Getting sick from anger isn’t worth it. Life is hard—survival is enough.
After a few seconds of buffering, memories rushed into her mind. Tang Li remembered her new identity.
She was originally a cat spirit, transformed into human form. But her world didn’t allow animals to become spirits, so she was forcibly flung into a yuri novel set in Huadu, becoming a cannon-fodder character with the same name.
In the novel, the original owner was from a well-known business family but was considered a good-for-nothing by her relatives—beautiful on the outside, but cruel on the inside. She used her looks to feign innocence and tricked the female lead into marrying her. After marriage, she fooled around with other Omegas and even drugged and imprisoned the FL.
Three years of marriage left the FL physically and mentally scarred. After transforming herself and meeting her true love, she reported the original owner, sending her to prison.
The original owner was sentenced to decades but didn’t last long—tormented to the point of suicide. But in Tang Li’s opinion, the female lead didn’t have it much better. As an Omega, her natural scent was irresistibly alluring. She was treated like an object, fought over by all kinds of Alphas, her dreams crushed, locked away like a doll in a tower.
All in all, everyone was pretty miserable.
But as the FL’s cannon-fodder ex-wife, all Tang Li needed to do was avoid the death flags and steer clear of the FL—then she could finally enjoy the beauty of human life.
Tang Li was full of motivation.
When she arrived, it was right at a critical moment. The original owner’s sisters were all cunning and ruthless, fighting for power. Though the original owner was rebellious and flashy, she was deeply favored by the powerful old matriarch. Tonight, someone had secretly arranged for a drugged Omega to be placed in her room. As an Alpha, the original was supposed to lose control and assault the Omega—thus gaining a permanent stain on her record.
In the dim room, the curtains were drawn. A soft, yellow light cast a hazy glow across the bed. The setup was clearly meant to suggest something dangerous. The Omega lying on the bed was flushed red and already moaning in discomfort. A sweet, raspberry-like scent—her pheromones—leaked uncontrollably from her glands, filling the air with a heady, forbidden atmosphere.
By instinct, the Omega bit her lip and reached out her trembling arms toward Tang Li as soon as she entered. But Tang Li agilely dodged.
She wanted to find a proper weapon, but after a quick search, she gave up. In the end, she aimed a well-controlled strike to the back of the Omega’s neck. The first attempt failed. The Omega staggered, but on the second try, Tang Li finally knocked her out. She gently tucked the Omega under the covers, locked the door, glanced at the hotel room’s main door—then decided to escape through the window.
She had no idea how the Omega got in or what she was supposed to do. But as long as she stayed uninvolved, all would be well.
Outside, the drizzle fell like mist. Tang Li, being a cat spirit, was naturally skilled at climbing. She easily leapt from the air conditioner unit to the water pipe and began inching her way down.
Vilu Hotel, Room 1021.
A silver infusion machine gleamed coldly in the light. The monitor showed only 3% progress left, but the woman lying in bed showed no signs of calm or relief.
Because of her condition, the woman’s skin was pale, though her jet-black hair indicated she wasn’t physically weak. Her eyelids were thin and tinged with pink when lowered, softening her sharp, delicate features and muting their innate aggression. Qin Shiyang rested one hand on the blanket. Transparent suppressants dripped from the IV tube into her vein. The veins beneath her pale hand twisted like veins of jade.
Even in her sickly state, the Omega sat straight-backed, posture flawless. With her free hand, she slowly flipped through a foreign-language book—an obscure dialect she had to translate sentence by sentence. She used it to strain her brain, distracting herself from the heat overtaking her body.
But the pain threading through her veins, combined with the heat of her rut, was pure torment for an Omega.
With only a little left to go, Qin Shiyang couldn’t take it anymore. She pulled out the IV and went to open the window for fresh air. Neon lights from the distant city scattered across her eyes. Rain splashed her cheeks, cool and clean, carrying the earthy fragrance of late spring. It cleared her hazy mind—just a little.
Then a black figure entered her field of vision. The person was climbing down nimbly but was clearly struggling with a cumbersome outfit. A ripping sound echoed as Tang Li’s sleeve snagged on the pipe and tore halfway off, fluttering in the wind.
Startled, Qin Shiyang instinctively grabbed a nearby object, thinking it was a thief. But then she got a better look.
The girl clung desperately to the pipe, long golden hair soaked and messy. Her expression was pitiful. Tang Li had clearly overestimated herself, and now, seeing another person, she didn’t care about pride. She panicked and pleaded for help.
“I’m stuck… H-Help… please…”
Qin Shiyang: “…”
She hesitated, then walked to the balcony and held out a hand. The girl climbed up using the railing with catlike agility. Before this, Qin Shiyang had already packed away her medical equipment. She didn’t want anyone to see her in such a vulnerable state.
A few minutes later, Tang Li, now safely inside, took a fast shower using Qin Shiyang’s bathroom. She kept the door shut, but a faint scent wafted out.
That scent made Qin Shiyang shiver, her breath catching involuntarily.
It was the scent of an Alpha.
For AO dynamics, pheromones were like calling cards. Qin Shiyang had always been highly sensitive—she was allergic to harsh scents like cedar or mint, which most Alphas used, and even proximity could trigger disgust.
But this Alpha’s scent wasn’t strong or aggressive. It was floral, gentle, with a rare sweetness—a subtle allure that seeped from the bathroom door and brushed against Qin Shiyang’s senses, sending ripples through her restraint.
Those ripples grew. Under the pressure of her heat, the last thread of self-control finally snapped.
The hunter who had cast no net… had just discovered her ideal prey.
Tang Li finished showering and blew her hair until it was half-dry. Her golden locks, now fluffy, framed her petite jaw. Her hazel cat eyes shimmered gently, without a trace of sharpness.
This deceptively innocent face was the only reason Qin Shiyang hadn’t realized she was an Alpha. She had allowed her into the room—and even lent her the bathroom—simply because she looked dumb, soaked to the bone, and pitiful.
Tang Li’s makeup was lazily wiped off. Her rough technique left her eyes smeared in rose-red hues, sharply contrasting her pale skin. Even bare-faced, her eyes were naturally beautiful, and her pupils—still dewy from the shower—glowed.
Sweet and tempting.
Qin Shiyang had never seen such a non-threatening Alpha. Yet her pheromones carried a floral, seductive note that dominated the room and unraveled her composure. Qin Shiyang’s self-control snapped. Her own glands began to emit a responding scent.
Tang Li wasn’t sure what was happening. She only sensed a new aroma in the air—like tea, refreshing and pleasant. One of her molars tingled oddly. She didn’t know what to do. Instinctively, she breathed deeply. The tea scent carried something else within it… addictive. She leaned closer.
Seeing Tang Li lower her head and approach like a kitten, Qin Shiyang’s ears flushed with heat. Even the strongest willpower crumbles under such primal temptation.
At some point, the main lights had been switched off, leaving only a dim glow between them. Qin Shiyang looked up—and met Tang Li’s bright, glassy eyes. Her soft hand gently touched Qin Shiyang’s shoulder, filled with polite curiosity. Her voice was clear and sweet:
“You smell really nice… big sister?”
She must be my big sister, Tang Li thought woozily. Her ears burned. Her body—from chest to belly—tingled with heat, making her feel miserable. She rested her head on Qin Shiyang’s shoulder, her breath shallow. She felt a cool fingertip brush the back of her neck—
—right where her gland was. A small, inconspicuous spot now pulsing with unbearable sensitivity.
Tang Li didn’t even realize she let out a soft whimper.
Then Qin Shiyang’s gentle voice asked:
“Do you have a girlfriend? A wife? A fiancée?”
“Have you marked any other Omegas? Or been with anyone else?”
A barrage of questions. Tang Li denied them all, barely holding it together, her voice already trembling on the verge of tears.
Finally satisfied, Qin Shiyang’s deep eyes flickered with something unreadable—quickly replaced by overwhelming desire.
Just before her kiss fell, she blindfolded Tang Li. Even if this was consensual between adults, Qin Shiyang didn’t want anyone to see her undone in heat. But as their hair mingled and the heat burned ever hotter, the Omega’s scent—like tea mountains cloaked in spring mist—grew more intoxicating, heavy with dampness and longing.
Just like the rain that had not yet ended outside.
