Chapter 10: Tang Li Smiles Sweetly at Yu Qingshuang
Nan Jiuying’s expression immediately soured when she looked around and couldn’t find Tang Li.
On the other side, Teacher Li received an inquiring message from Nan Jiuying and quickly messaged Tang Li, asking where she was.
Three minutes passed, and still no reply. Teacher Li fretted like an ant on a hot pan and couldn’t resist calling Tang Li directly.
However, the call was immediately hung up.
Tang Li: Sorry, Teacher Li, I had an urgent matter and had to leave. Are you done in the restroom? If so, please go greet Senior Nan and let her fully experience the warmth of our alma mater (#^.^#)
She even sent a smiling cat emoji at the end, her tone so polite that no fault could be found, yet it left Teacher Li fuming and choked. She wished she could drag Tang Li back and give her a good scolding.
Tang Li had been so well-behaved and efficient when working during the day. Teacher Li had taken a liking to the student’s appearance and “casually” asked, finding out she was an Alpha, which was why she gave Tang Li this opportunity. She never expected her to be so unappreciative!
Nan Jiuying’s family was in real estate. As the eldest daughter and an Omega, she was spoiled rotten. The school had investments from the Nan family’s enterprises, and as the daughter of a major shareholder with excellent personal qualities, Nan Jiuying was naturally a popular figure at school. However, there was one thing: she liked young, pretty Alphas.
It was human nature to seek pleasure, and as long as it wasn’t excessive, it wasn’t considered a bad habit. She would return grandly once or twice a year, using conferences and lectures as an excuse. If she saw a female university student she liked, she would directly offer an olive branch and take them away. Li Zhijuan had been stuck in the position of associate professor for over a decade. She basically met all other requirements, but her promotion quota was blocked every year, so she had long devised an alternative method.
She felt that Tang Li was likely Nan Jiuying’s type. If the shareholder helped out, perhaps her professional title evaluation this year would be secure. However, Tang Li was so unappreciative that Li Zhijuan’s face suddenly darkened. She hurried to appease Nan Jiuying, but Nan Jiuying gave her a cold shoulder the entire time and eventually left early.
After the event dispersed, Li Zhijuan cursed under her breath and first dialed another student’s number.
Tang Li didn’t know what happened after she left, but she could somewhat guess that the advisor certainly wouldn’t have an easy time.
She wasn’t particularly vengeful, but she was definitely not a pushover who would stay silent when manipulated. If she was unhappy, the person causing trouble wouldn’t have a good time either.
Tang Li hadn’t eaten dinner yet. She sat in the back of the taxi, lightly swinging her legs. Just as she chose a beef hotpot restaurant close to home, her phone rang again.
This time, it was her superior.
They said the old proposal had been submitted but failed the review, and now everyone needed to handle their own parts quickly, as it would be submitted soon. Then came a bunch of encouraging words. In short, it was to tell her to work overtime immediately, or it would affect the whole project.
Tang Li: “…”
She looked at the neon lights flashing past the dark night sky outside the car window and began to wonder if she hadn’t checked the almanac before leaving today; otherwise, why would misfortune strike one after another?
But even though she was silently crying inside, Tang Li temporarily changed her destination and asked the driver to take her to the company. The moment she stepped through the door, stomach growling, Tang Li felt like she had packed herself off to prison.
….
Qin Shiyang hadn’t intentionally ignored Tang Li.
After waking up that day, she felt a slight itch on her body, but it was much better than before, so she immediately threw herself into the next project.
Although she had a professional team to maintain and assist her, Qin Shiyang held the reins of the entire company. When it was busy, she was extremely busy and wouldn’t let an assistant handle things for her. When she first took over, Qin Shiyang had caused some minor controversy due to her Omega identity. Although this was later completely dispelled by her excellent abilities, Qin Shiyang didn’t want to give anyone any cause for gossip. Therefore, even during her heat cycle, she would personally handle whatever she could.
In reality, Alphas also experience similar situations during their rut. If their irritable emotions aren’t soothed in time, they can fall into an uncontrollable state of anxiety, just like Omegas, making it impossible to handle matters properly.
However, most Alphas have lower moral standards and aren’t particularly fussy about emotional matters; they’ll just casually mark an Omega. Even worse, there are secretly services like that being sold; red-light districts exist everywhere.
Ultimately, most people still held some deeply ingrained prejudices against Omegas.
As the designated heir of the Qin family, Qin Shiyang had her own influence. No one dared to pressure her into marriage or spout self-righteous words about Omegas having trouble if they didn’t marry.
Despite this, if Qin Shiyang were just an ordinary Omega, it would be one thing. But as long as the toxin in her body remained uncleared, the heat cycle’s effects on her would only worsen. During her last heat, Qin Shiyang already felt overwhelmed. If this phenomenon continued to expand until it was discovered by those circling like wolves, they would pounce like sharks smelling bl00d in the ocean, dragging her down from her position and seizing her achievements.
Qin Shiyang naturally wasn’t without a backup plan. If pushed to the limit, she could always sell her shares, earning a large sum of money, enough for a worry-free life.
But if that were her mindset, Qin Shiyang wouldn’t have climbed to her current position step by step.
She now needed a clean and easily controllable Alpha to help her through this difficult period. Once the market was fully in her grasp and she had established herself, or found a suitable method to completely cure the toxin, she would no longer be bothered by this aspect.
Tang Li was currently an excellent choice for her: pretty, good figure, and caring, unlike some Alphas who were impatient and couldn’t move when they saw an Omega. Whether the latter was a deliberate pretense in front of her was still under consideration, but Qin Shiyang already had a rough answer in mind.
Unless someone was incredibly shrewd or their acting skills were flawless, with Qin Shiyang’s standards for judging people, those who were confident would usually show their true colors in front of her.
She noticed that since that night, the little one hadn’t contacted her much, wondering if it was because she was embarrassed or…
Tang Li had actually left her alone at that time, giving herself an inhibitor shot and fleeing in a hurry. Qin Shiyang was quite surprised to see the syringe discarded in the trash can when she woke up. If she hadn’t already had previous attempts, she might have suspected the worst: that this little Alpha had some problem with marking.
Yet, that night, she had also smelled the faint ylang-ylang scent on the Alpha, but Tang Li had strenuously suppressed it, burying the thought deep down.
Appropriate self-control was good, but going overboard and becoming unromantic wasn’t a good habit. Lost in thought, Qin Shiyang remembered the private investigator she had hired earlier. She chatted with the private investigator on a different account, and the messages between the two accounts didn’t sync. When Qin Shiyang was busy, she usually didn’t pay much attention and had instructed them not to call her unless it was something major.
She opened that account, and messages poured in. Qin Shiyang then saw that the private investigator had sent some pictures.
She clicked on them, and what immediately caught her eye was a photo of Tang Li. The girl was sitting opposite Yu Qingshuang; both were dining, holding small forks, and Tang Li was smiling very sweetly.
