After Cat A Saved the Wrong Female Lead - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: She’s Very “Useful”
Spring rain is different from summer rain. It doesn’t come and go in a rush but lingers endlessly, tangled with the wind all through the night. By morning, the clear glass windows were covered in dense droplets, slowly sliding down like remnants of the night before that couldn’t be wiped away.
The once-pristine white bed was now a complete mess, the air still heavy with a rich, intoxicating scent of pheromones. Tang Li’s pheromones were floral-scented, which happened to match perfectly with the Omega’s tea-scented ones. Pheromones weren’t just a simple fragrance, especially for Alphas and Omegas—they could be laced with an unspoken, seductive allure during moments of passion.
Tang Li was always a light sleeper with sharp senses, and as soon as she heard movement beside her, she woke up.
She turned her head and met the eyes of the beauty lying next to her.
Those eyes were still half-lidded with sleep, their misty daze unable to hide the alluring flush at the corners. A few strands of black hair clung to the woman’s neck from sweat, messy yet relaxed, while her overall aura was as cool and serene as a morning tea mountain—if not for her slightly swollen lips, which disrupted that mystery.
Tang Li’s gaze abruptly shifted from her snowy white shoulder upward and landed on the striking red mark on her chin—a trace of her own doing from last night. Though it looked light, it stood out starkly against her fair skin, making Tang Li feel a little guilty.
She thought she was being discreet with her gaze, and certainly had no indecent intentions—just instinctively reminiscing on the night that broke all boundaries—yet the woman sensed her stare and turned to meet her eyes.
When Tang Li was caught in those dark, stone-like irises, she felt a bit uneasy. The beauty’s expression was unreadable, making Tang Li feel even more unsure. After a few moments of silence, she couldn’t help but feel slightly wronged.
She didn’t mean to… What a petty woman!
Just as she was wondering how to apologize, the beauty finally spoke, her voice slightly hoarse from sleep:
“Water…”
Qin Shiyang gave a soft cough, exhaling a breath and shifting her sore body backward, tucking a soft pillow behind herself.
“Can you get out of bed?” she asked. “Get me a glass of water, please?”
Despite being used to carrying herself with a commanding presence, President Qin didn’t act bossy in private. This little Alpha had been chosen by her—and she had made the first move. Naturally, she wasn’t going to behave as if the other party should serve her at all times. She could see Tang Li was a bit flustered, so she softened her voice. Only then did Tang Li get out of bed, wrapped in a bath towel.
She poured warm water into a disposable paper cup and handed it to her. As Qin Shiyang reached out to take it, her snow-white neckline dipped low, revealing an enticing view. But the young girl immediately averted her eyes. Compared to her bold and inexperienced actions last night, she now seemed incredibly obedient and shy.
Which side of her was the real one?
No matter.
After the dizzying chaos of the night before, despite the soreness in her body, Qin Shiyang had made an unexpected discovery—
She could not only tolerate this Alpha’s pheromones, but she responded to them exceptionally well.
As the Qin family’s heir, Qin Shiyang had once been poisoned after her secondary gender presented—by a rare neurotoxin that was nearly impossible to cure. As an Omega, heat periods were already difficult, but with the toxin, every episode became a hundred times more agonizing.
She had tried all sorts of medications, even synthetic comfort agents from adult stores specifically designed for AOs. These products could be customized, and the results were barely adequate at first. But man-made scent mimics were just that—imitations. They lacked the soul-stirring, entrancing effect of a real Alpha’s pheromones.
But last night, Tang Li was surprisingly effective. In fact, she was very good.
They were both inexperienced, fumbling through it by instinct. Still, Tang Li was attentive, never reckless, and very considerate of the Omega’s needs—which, for Omegas picking a mate, was an essential trait.
Sipping her warm water, Qin Shiyang studied the girl who had haphazardly thrown on some clothes. Tang Li had a delicate, lovely face, her long, soft golden-blonde hair naturally gentle without being flashy. Her lips were small and thin. Her overall appearance was the elegant and refined type—not ordinary at all, but delicate and warm, with finely shaped features.
Qin Shiyang’s lips were thoroughly bitten, but she hadn’t let Tang Li off easy either. She’d returned the favor. Now, Tang Li’s eyes sparkled like a kitten’s, and her lips were rosy and plump. If not for the more obvious marks on Qin Shiyang’s own body, it would’ve been hard to tell who’d actually done the bullying.
But this was a consensual encounter—no one was “taken advantage of,” right?
After getting Tang Li’s consent last night, Qin Shiyang had half-teased and half-instructed her on how to please an Omega. The results had been promising. She intended to continue. Opportunities like this didn’t come often, and that damn poison had already troubled her long enough. Outwardly strong as she was, few knew the full truth behind her suffering, but her worsening heat cycles were becoming unbearable.
While Qin Shiyang was thinking about Tang Li, Tang Li was thinking about her, too.
The Omega’s scent had bloomed overnight. Now it lingered like misty tea leaves filling the entire suite. No air humidifier could compare. Her fragrance gently soaked into every corner.
Normally, only Alpha pheromones were this overwhelming. But Qin Shiyang’s scent wasn’t forceful—it was like silent rain nourishing everything.
Earlier, Tang Li had mistaken her quietness for anger and felt a little anxious, but then Qin Shiyang’s gentle tone had left her flustered.
So… she wasn’t mad after all.
Last night, when Tang Li had caught the enticing aroma of her pheromones, she already knew this stunning woman with snow-white skin and spring-filled apricot eyes had to be the female lead of this novel world she’d landed in.
According to the plot, this woman would be pursued and fought over by countless Alphas, treated like an object without dignity. And the worst offender was the original host—Tang Li’s current body—who married the female lead under false pretenses, hiding her disgraceful reputation, and treated her poorly afterward.
Tang Li would never do such things. And thankfully, this transmigration didn’t come with a system enforcing the plot. She had full freedom here.
After Qin Shiyang took a shower, she came out with damp hair and glanced at Tang Li.
“You should take a shower too, freshen up.”
There was a bathroom right in the suite. Tang Li had used it the night before. At her suggestion, she went in without hesitation. They hadn’t really cleaned up last night—just fallen asleep in a mess. Tang Li still felt sore, so she washed herself thoroughly.
When she came out, she realized her clothes from last night had been torn to shreds.
The memory of certain moments rushed back into her head. Tang Li’s ears turned red, her movements becoming stiff. But Qin Shiyang had also changed clothes and looked clean and composed. She pointed toward the bed, where she’d left Tang Li a set of clothes.
They were about the same height and size. Tang Li changed into a set of loose, comfy loungewear. It fit perfectly. She wasn’t sure if it had been worn before, but it smelled freshly washed—no pheromone scent on it at all.
Qin Shiyang was holding a few freshly printed A4 sheets, her expression calm and composed.
She didn’t smile often, and when she didn’t, she carried a naturally aloof, elegant air. Her slender fingers tapped lightly on the desk. When she saw Tang Li come out, she nodded.
“I want to make a deal with you. Take a look.”
The paper still held a trace of the printer’s warmth. As the undisputed heir of the Qin Group, Qin Shiyang held enormous power during the transition of leadership. Her status was so prestigious that even a contract marriage—let alone being her lover—would have Alphas lining up.
What’s more, her offer was extremely generous. In the elite circle, she had never seen someone like Tang Li before, which made this potential alliance all the more appealing.
Qin Shiyang studied her quietly.
Tang Li looked surprised for a moment, then revealed an expression of dawning realization.
So that’s how it happened in the plot? The marriage between the female lead and the original host happened this fast and casually??
When she became human, she had learned a bit about human customs. In this ABO world, some Omegas were more conservative and, once marked by an Alpha, would regard them as their destined partner. But those Omegas were rare. Usually, Alphas and Omegas would only get pregnant if they lived together during heats and ruts. Normal intimacy was risk-free.
Tang Li didn’t know all the plot details, just that the female lead had a painful past and serious trust issues due to her original family.
Looking at the beauty in front of her, Tang Li’s heart softened involuntarily.
Qin Shiyang was waiting for her reply, but was caught off guard when Tang Li suddenly leaned in, her soft cheek pressing against hers. The young girl’s cat-like eyes sparkled with determination.
“Don’t be afraid. From now on, I’ll protect you.”
It was like she was reassuring both of them. Caught off guard by the seriousness of it, Qin Shiyang found herself momentarily stunned.
“What’s your name?” Tang Li asked.
“I’m…”
Caught off guard by the question, Qin Shiyang suddenly realized she might’ve acted too rashly earlier. She was surprised that Tang Li genuinely didn’t recognize her. With Tang Li’s expectant gaze on her, she swallowed the name at the tip of her tongue and left one character out.
“My name is Qin Shiyu.”
Before Tang Li could introduce herself, a sudden knock echoed through the room—urgent and sharp. Both of them heard it clearly.
Tang Li, ever alert, tensed. But given the soundproofing of the hotel, it wasn’t odd they hadn’t heard approaching footsteps.
To prevent any unwanted situations, Qin Shiyang had preemptively set her phone to sleep mode the night before. No work calls or messages would come through.
She was staying here for a major meeting scheduled for ten in the morning. It was now 8:30. Her secretary knew about last night’s emergency and hadn’t heard from her since, so it was understandable she was now knocking anxiously.
The secretary was a Beta and couldn’t detect pheromones, but the state of the room would still be far from appropriate for visitors.
Qin Shiyang frowned just slightly, and Tang Li—perhaps inspired by too many dramatic soap operas—instantly imagined a scandalous plot twist with the heroine getting framed. Hearing the increasingly urgent knocking, she sprang into action—scooped up the towel from the bed, tossed it into the bathroom, and prepared to climb out the window.
Qin Shiyang: “…”
Watching this girl seriously try to scale the walls, Qin Shiyang momentarily questioned her intelligence.
But just for a second. She pointed toward the interior and gestured for Tang Li to just stay quietly inside. This was a suite, after all. With a living room out front, she just needed to avoid opening the bedroom door.
Suppressing the soreness in her body, Qin Shiyang walked to the door and opened it.
Standing there was her anxious secretary, Pei Xuan, who looked her up and down. Seeing that she was fully dressed and, aside from a faint blush on her cheeks, looked fine, Pei Xuan finally relaxed and lowered her voice to report—
“President Qin, the paparazzi are here.”
Hurried footsteps approached from afar, growing louder. Qin Shiyang’s elegant brows furrowed, and she quickly pulled Pei Xuan inside, cracked the door slightly, and peered out.
Sure enough, the elevator was jam-packed, and people were now rushing up the stairs. Their destination—this floor.
