Chapter 21: Her Wife Is Really a Lucky Charm!
Tang Li’s face was flushed so red that Qin Shiyang felt like she was tricking the little Alpha onto a pirate ship.
But she didn’t even need to push—Tang Li had clearly already thought things through over the past few days.
There were far more Alphas than just Bai Wanle who had confessed affection to Qin Shiyang. So when she said she was feeling troubled, it wasn’t just made-up nonsense—it had some factual basis. Her family didn’t force her to marry, but they would still do little things behind the scenes, like introducing her to people. If she didn’t want to completely fall out with them, she’d have to go along with it and waste her time on meaningless social gatherings.
Of course, the main problem was the unstable toxins wreaking havoc. The mysterious poison had long been subtly altering her nervous system. By the time it was discovered, it was already too late.
Otherwise, with Qin Shiyang’s self-discipline, her heat period shouldn’t have been a big deal. A single inhibitor shot would’ve solved it. The fact that it had become such a mess—not just physically but emotionally unsettling—was troubling.
Qin Shiyang’s Omega mother had been the most cherished daughter in the Qin family, raised like a little princess, pampered in every way. As her youngest daughter, Qin Shiyang also grew up under strict protection. In theory, no one should’ve been able to get close to harm her. Yet, the culprit was never found.
That person could still be hiding in the Qin household, smiling at her every day. Even her cousin Qin Shuyi’s car accident—Qin Shiyang didn’t believe it was purely coincidental.
As for her Alpha mother—she disappeared years ago during an overseas trip and is now presumed dead.
Things on her family’s side were complicated enough. Tang Li, on the other hand, clearly harbored secrets Qin Shiyang didn’t yet know—like a locked mystery box waiting to be opened. Qin Shiyang was brimming with curiosity and a desire to explore.
After a while, Tang Li finally whispered, “Okay.” She no longer had that bold confidence from their first meeting when she’d claimed she’d “protect” Qin Shiyang. But the moment Qin Shiyang looked up, she saw the little Alpha’s ears had turned a deep crimson—like white jade dyed a beautiful blush. It made her want to recklessly lean in and take a bite.
Maybe it was because of her susceptible phase, but Tang Li felt her face was flushing more easily than usual. She didn’t dare look at the Omega, afraid of sparking even more mischievous thoughts.
Marriage? So be it!
Now that she’d have an official status, it’d be even easier to fend off other Alphas chasing after her goddess!
Even if the real male lead showed up later and he and the female lead fell in love, if Qin Shiyang proposed a breakup, she’d never cling or beg. They could divorce peacefully—and she’d be free and happy. Besides, Little Mermaid was so kind and capable; surely, she’d give her a generous breakup settlement. No matter how you looked at it, she couldn’t lose!
After thinking up several reasons, Tang Li felt more and more that this was a great deal. She was so happy she wanted to hum a tune.
To be fair, an Alpha’s susceptible period could still be dangerous for an Omega. Even with medication, it wasn’t easy. Once Qin Shiyang had accomplished her goal, she didn’t linger to further disrupt Tang Li—just stayed for a while and left.
She moved quickly. After the weekend passed—figuring Tang Li’s susceptible period had fully settled down and she could think clearly—she sent over a printed contract.
A black-and-white, two-copy premarital agreement. The content was extremely detailed—black text packed like ants on a page—making Tang Li’s head spin.
She had already recovered by Sunday and had spent the day at home preparing a résumé, which she sent to Fantasy Era Holographic Games Inc.. On Monday morning, she personally handed in her resignation at her current design internship. She didn’t care about money, didn’t make a fuss, and left the company smoothly.
Back home, staring at the contract full of legalese made her dizzy. She ordered some soup dumplings from downstairs, dipped them in vinegar, and skimmed the document while eating. It was mostly about property division, so she didn’t pay much attention.
A dignified female lead would covet her little money?
Impossible.
She’d make her own way financially. Worst case, her two moms—Yu Zhou and Bai Xuan—would always have her back. There was no need to fight over assets. Separation of property was ideal—no messy trouble. Tang Li cheerfully signed her name and added her fingerprint. Everything else, including asset notarization, was handled by Qin Shiyang’s team.
All Tang Li had to do was show up at the right time to collect the marriage certificate. As for the wedding—since it was a contractual marriage—there was no need for any grand ceremony.
Qin Shiyang’s public image was that of a white-collar worker with her own cozy apartment. But since they’d be living together for three years, she picked out a well-furnished property to be their marital home. Just like many young couples, they pooled their funds for the down payment and quickly finalized all the paperwork.
Even now, Tang Li felt slightly dazed, as if walking on clouds.
She was about to become a married woman?
Naturally, marriage couldn’t be kept from her family. She picked a good time and called Yu Zhou to ask if she could come back to Huadu. Yu Zhou was up north when she got the call—Tang Li had already informed Bai Xuan, who was still reeling from the shock.
She hadn’t even known her daughter was seeing anyone.
But her daughter was grown now, and the original Tang Li had always been rebellious. That she hadn’t shared her relationship was understandable. Still digesting the news, Bai Xuan heard Yu Zhou say she couldn’t return—so she snatched the phone and yelled:
“Your daughter’s getting engaged and you’re not coming? Then don’t say you’re her mother when she gets married. No one will recognize you!”
Yu Zhou: “???”
Bai Xuan had a sharp tongue. Yu Zhou never dared argue too hard, since Bai Xuan had given birth to Tang Li and taken custody after the divorce. She hadn’t fought for custody back then and just visited when she could.
If she made Bai Xuan mad, she might not even be allowed in the door. Work had kept Yu Zhou on the road—one of the reasons they’d split. Hearing Bai Xuan’s rant, Yu Zhou panicked, immediately canceled her meetings and booked a flight back.
That evening, the three of them sat together for dinner, and Tang Li finally told them she was getting married soon. Both moms were open-minded, but the news still shocked them.
Bai Xuan lived in Huadu. Tang Li had rarely spoken to her after their divorce and held a grudge for years, from adolescence into adulthood. She had never been willing to reconcile or be close.
So hearing her daughter was rushing to marry, Bai Xuan was worried—was someone tricking her? But Tang Li was firm. Given the original Tang Li’s personality, neither mom doubted her.
“Fine. It’s her choice. She’s an adult now, and she should take responsibility for her own decisions.”
Yu Zhou took it more lightly. Tang Li was an Alpha, so at least there was no risk of forced marking or pregnancy. As for everything else—if things went poorly, it wasn’t like they couldn’t support her. She’d grown much gentler lately and was far less prone to anger or fights. Yu Zhou believed love, in some way, nourishes the soul—shaping it into something vibrant and full of life.
Bai Xuan was still unhappy—but more because her daughter was about to belong to someone else, not because of control issues. Before she could say anything, Yu Zhou hooked an arm around her neck and dragged her away, calling back to Tang Li:
“Ali, let Mom know the day you get your certificate. I’ll give you and your wife a huge red envelope!”
Dragged off, Bai Xuan could still be heard yelling from the hallway. As Tang Li sat under a leafy green potted plant in the restaurant’s private room, she heard her moms bickering:
“Yu! Zhou! Do you need a good beating?!”
Tang Li looked at them through the glass and couldn’t help but laugh. Human emotions really were strange. Get to know Bai Xuan, and you’d see—she was bold and passionate. If she didn’t still care about Yu Zhou, she wouldn’t let her act so familiar. And Yu Zhou, cold on the outside and warm within, clearly only showed that soft side to people she cared for.
They must’ve loved each other deeply once. Why did they split? So hard to understand.
But Tang Li wasn’t the original host, and whether her moms got back together was their business. She soon stopped thinking about it.
A few days later, Tang Li received great news.
Her application to Fantasy Era had passed the first screening—she was invited for an interview. And on the same day Qin Shiyang scheduled their marriage certificate and pre-marriage health check, a classmate told her the investigation into Professor Li had concluded: his suspension had turned into outright dismissal.
The Nan family had also been implicated in abuse of authority. Yao Cheche, in particular, was found to have bribed her advisor and cheated on multiple exams. Professor Li exposed her on the way out—she got a major demerit.
With that on her record, Yao Cheche could kiss graduate school goodbye—she might not even graduate or find a job now. No time to bother Tang Li—she was busy saving herself.
In the original novel, the OG Tang Li had been cruel by nature, but Yao Cheche certainly encouraged and plotted alongside her—including ways to torment the female lead. None of that would happen now. Yao Cheche’s own dirty deeds had caught up with her, and Tang Li couldn’t be happier. She felt like skipping down the street singing.
She suddenly remembered she still had to do the marriage checkup and get her certificate with Qin Shiyang today. Luckily, it didn’t overlap with the interview—there was enough time to recover and prepare.
Standing in front of the mirror, Tang Li finished applying a matte red-brown lipstick. It added a touch of composure to her already refined look. But her lips still couldn’t help curling up into a sweet smile.
Her wife really was a lucky charm!
