After Cat A Saved the Wrong Female Lead - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: The Ultimate Convenient Tool
After leaving the Omega’s room, Tang Li, who had just been cold and aloof, quickly rushed into the kitchen, turned on the faucet, and splashed cold water on her face to snap herself back to her senses.
Her heart pounded, feeling more exhausted than after an 800-meter run. Still smelling of the Omega’s pheromones, Tang Li checked the time and figured it would be inconvenient to get a taxi back home. She wasn’t one to fuss over formalities, so she simply turned around and went to sleep in Qin Shiyang’s guest room.
It wasn’t like she hadn’t slept there before.
The bathroom was in Qin Shiyang’s bedroom. To avoid waking her, Tang Li slept without a blanket that night, just in her clothes. Before lying down, though, she opened a shopping app and bought some portable inhibitors and pheromone blockers.
The next day, without waiting for the host to wake up, Tang Li got up early, tidied the bed, and quickly left to avoid unnecessary awkwardness. She hailed a taxi home, took a shower, ate breakfast, and leisurely dawdled until nearly eight o’clock when she suddenly received a message and headed to school.
The original owner was a university student in Huadu. She was a senior but hadn’t officially graduated yet. She had no plans for postgraduate studies, but academic papers still needed to be prepared carefully. She was looking for an internship now in preparation for graduation, and although Bai Xuan and Yu Zhou were both very good to her, they didn’t want her to neglect her studies or just drift through.
They certainly wouldn’t go around school announcing that she was a rich young lady with no shortage of food and clothing. However, they also didn’t give the original owner much to show off to her classmates during her time at school. It was only now, in her senior year when she wasn’t living in the dorms, that Tang Li had a very generous allowance.
Her advisor told her that there was a seminar at school today, and all students working locally had to attend. Since it was the weekend, there was no reason to decline, so Tang Li rushed over.
Her school was called Huadu University of Finance and Economics, adjacent to the nation’s top Huada University. Its admission scores were much lower, but all universities in Huadu were ideal places for students nationwide. It was late spring, early summer, and the lush green belts were adorned with vibrant colors. Large yellow peonies and purple butterflies filled her vision, fresh and pleasing to the eye.
Tang Li left early, fearing traffic. When she arrived, the students who had classes at eight in the morning were already dismissed. Some yawned, looking lethargic, while others were enthusiastically discussing today’s seminar, which reportedly featured a prominent senior student.
“It’s Senior Nan Jiuying! Didn’t she also work as a model while in school? She’s the goddess of so many junior students here; she’s amazing!”
“Yeah, and isn’t she also the eldest daughter of the Nan family? I only found out later.”
“Holy cow, that Nan family from Mingxian? When is Senior going to be back? I’ll definitely go see her then!”
“Hehe, I heard there’s even a celebrity coming tonight, but I don’t know who. So excited!”
Tang Li listened to them gossip about the senior with little interest. She decided to stroll around the campus first to get a feel for the environment and adapt to the local lifestyle. The lecture wouldn’t start until six in the evening, and she planned to stay, watch it, and then have dinner at the cafeteria.
She glanced at her phone. Xiao Yu should be awake by now, but there was no message. Tang Li should have been relieved that the female lead didn’t bother her after sobering up, but for some reason, a faint pang of sourness tugged at her heart.
However, her advisor asked her to come to the office, so Tang Li hurried over and received notice to help prepare for tonight’s lecture.
Tang Li hadn’t done this kind of thing before, but her class, at least for interns, was very good about sticking to a nine-to-five, two-day weekend schedule, so she had nothing planned for the entire weekend.
To graduate with high marks and leave a good impression on her advisor was crucial. Tang Li readily agreed to stay and spent half the day bustling about.
Other classmates also came to help her. At noon, they were organized to eat in the cafeteria. Tang Li ordered milk tea delivery for everyone, being generous and free-spending, which earned her the goodwill of many classmates. The original owner had not been very active with her classmates before; only a few, like Yao Cheche, knew about her family background. Today, however, she easily blended in with everyone.
Not everyone was like Yao Cheche, who took advantage of others as if it were her right, afraid of losing out. Tang Li received several treats from alumni throughout the afternoon, enjoying their pleasant company. By five o’clock, people began to enter the venue. Those who helped prepare for the lecture were naturally led backstage, ensuring they would get good seats in the front row later.
Although Tang Li was busy all day, it was fulfilling and enjoyable. Plus, Qin Shiyang had remained silent and hadn’t contacted her, making her almost forget about last night.
At exactly six o’clock, Senior Nan Jiuying arrived on time, bathed in bright light, wearing an elegant long dress, standing tall and graceful like a noble white swan. The young woman had a slender figure and a clear, melodious voice, and was met with deafening applause upon her appearance.
Tang Li heard the girls behind her clapping thunderously, as if they were at a fan meeting, and casually clapped along. Her advisor, who was sitting next to her, suddenly leaned over and whispered:
“Tang Li, go up on stage later and give Senior Nan a bouquet of flowers. We’ve already prepared the flowers. You have the best image in the entire design department, so you go.”
It was just to represent her department and present flowers, and Tang Li wasn’t socially anxious, so she readily agreed.
So when Nan Jiuying finished her speech and was about to leave the stage but was kept by the host, the Alpha, simply dressed and beautiful, appeared, a small wave of discussion erupted throughout the audience. Nan Jiuying took the flowers from Tang Li, politely thanked her, and everything seemed normal. But Tang Li clearly felt her hand being lightly grazed when their hands met.
In normal social interaction, a slight accidental touch, Tang Li certainly wouldn’t mind. But after it ended, her advisor mysteriously kept her behind, saying she needed to participate in a celebration banquet.
The seminar lecture was over, and she had no reason to stay. Other classmates had basically gone about their own business. Tang Li usually had a habit of napping in the afternoon, and she hadn’t slept well yesterday. Today, she had been ordered around again, and now being kept alone by her advisor, she was already a little annoyed.
However, her upbringing made her suppress her temper and follow along.
At the banquet, however, Tang Li saw Nan Jiuying, who had changed into a different outfit, elegant and mysterious, smiling and looking at her across the crowd, with a hint of ambiguous allure in her expression. The advisor who had brought her in had been gone for several minutes, feigning a trip to the bathroom. Even if she was slow-witted, Tang Li now realized that her advisor had used her as a tool.
Furious to the extreme, Tang Li quickly calmed down. She operated her phone, took screenshots of all her chat records with her advisor, and as someone walked by, the girl quietly blended into the crowd.
After a brief, calm conversation with someone nearby, Nan Jiuying twirled a soft, perfumed strand of hair around her finger, confidently looking up, only to find that the beautiful young Alpha had disappeared.
