- Chapter 14 - Mr. Fu Helps Apply the Gland Patch
An Omega asking an Alpha to look at their gland—no matter how you framed it, it was an outright sexual implication.
But Ji Xia, who had only just differentiated from a Beta into an Omega, knew absolutely nothing about the physiological dynamics between Alphas and Omegas.
For Betas, their glands were essentially useless organs. And given Ji Xia’s not-so-bright little head, there was no way he could have grasped the subtleties behind such a request.
He only noticed Mr. Fu’s expression turn a few degrees colder, and immediately backpedaled with tact:
“You must be exhausted working so late, sir. Please go rest. I’ll go ask Grandpa Xu to take a look for me instead.”
Fu Yuan: “Come here.”
Ji Xia hadn’t expected Mr. Fu to agree.
He froze for a moment, then walked over, sat on the sofa next to the Alpha, turned his back, lowered his head, and exposed the back of his neck.
The desk lamp shone directly on Ji Xia’s position. When he bent his head slightly, the warm yellow light spilled over his slightly reddened gland.
Fu Yuan sat sideways, his gaze lowered toward the Omega’s vulnerable spot. He was seated right in the boundary between light and shadow, his entire body enveloped by dimness.
At that moment, Butler Xu came downstairs to check the noise.
What he saw was exactly this scene.
His steps faltered. Just as he was about to quietly turn back, he suddenly felt a sharp, predatory gaze lock onto him. Cold sweat broke out across his back.
His body instinctively fell into a defensive stance. Following the sense of danger, his eyes met the Alpha’s deep, black-pool gaze in the gloom.
Fu Yuan’s eyes were like those of a ferocious beast interrupted during its meal. If Butler Xu dared take one step closer, he felt he would be ripped to pieces.
Out of primal instinct, the butler dared not expose his back. He carefully retreated, step by cautious step, facing the Alpha the whole way.
Just when the atmosphere was taut as a bowstring, a soft, gentle voice broke it.
“Mr. Fu, are you done looking? Grandpa Xu, why are you downstairs—did I wake you up?”
Ji Xia had waited quite a while without hearing Mr. Fu say a word. When he finally turned his head, he caught sight of the butler.
Embarrassed, he explained:
“I drank too much coffee and couldn’t sleep. My gland hurt a little, so I asked Mr. Fu to take a look.”
The butler’s expression stayed even as he walked down.
“I just came to check the power supply as usual. Don’t mind me.”
He gave Fu Yuan a slight nod, then went into the kitchen.
Fu Yuan pulled out his phone and made a call.
Ji Xia overheard him mention gland inflammation and guessed the call must have been to a doctor.
When the call ended, Fu Yuan asked if there were any gland care patches in the house.
The butler replied, “Since Young Master Ji moved in, I’ve stocked up on all the essentials Omegas might need.”
Fu Yuan stood, saying, “Apply one on his gland.”
He was about to leave when Butler Xu interjected,
“Sir, my eyesight is failing—I might not place it well, and risk upsetting Young Master Ji. You should do it yourself.”
Ji Xia wanted to say it didn’t matter if it was crooked, but Mr. Fu had already sat back down. His lips parted, then shut again.
The butler quickly returned with a box of patches. To Ji Xia’s surprise, they were decorated with all kinds of cute cartoon designs.
“I thought Young Master Ji might prefer these,” the butler explained.
Ji Xia really did like them. He flipped through the box for quite a while, unable to decide. They were all adorable. Finally, clutching the box, he asked shyly,
“Mr. Fu, could you pick one for me?”
Fu Yuan: “From now on, apply one every day.”
He slid out the first patch from the top left row—a Q-version green dinosaur with a dopey smile.
Ji Xia hugged the box against his chest and mumbled,
“If it doesn’t hurt, I probably don’t need it, right? I don’t want to waste them.”
But Fu Yuan had already torn open the packaging. With clean, efficient movements, he peeled off the backing and placed the patch squarely over Ji Xia’s slightly swollen gland.
“Congratulations, host. Boss Fu’s favorability +1.”
Ji Xia had muted the system notifications, but he could still feel the brush of Mr. Fu’s warm fingertips against the sensitive skin of his neck. It tickled, though he dared not scratch.
Once the patch adhered, a cool sensation spread instantly, soothing the pain. The itch was forgotten.
Ji Xia’s brows curved as he smiled.
“Thank you, Mr. Fu.”
Fu Yuan said nothing, simply rose and went upstairs.
Only after his figure disappeared did Butler Xu remark,
“Young Master Ji, one box lasts a month. When it’s finished, I’ll bring more.”
Ji Xia quickly waved his hands.
“No need! It’s just a little pain today.”
The butler shook his head.
“This is the young master’s order. From now on, one patch every day.”
Ji Xia: “…All right.”
The butler turned to leave, but then pivoted back.
“Young Master Ji, to avoid any misunderstanding, it would be best if you let the young master personally apply the patch each day. Otherwise, he might assume you’re disobeying and… expel you.”
Ji Xia’s face showed distress.
“That’s too much trouble for Mr. Fu. I can practice and stick them myself.”
Besides, he was sure Mr. Fu wouldn’t enjoy such chores.
But the butler frowned in disapproval.
“If he thinks you’ve ignored his instructions, you could very well be kicked out.”
Hearing that, Ji Xia instantly behaved.
“…I understand.”
The butler softened.
“Rest early, little young master.”
Ji Xia nodded. He went to the kitchen for a glass of water, then returned to the attic. Climbing the stairs, he made a silent vow: Mr. Fu had been so good to him—he absolutely had to help secure that piece of land for him.
Curled on the sofa, he pulled out his phone and noticed several unread messages from Dr. Chen.
Dr. Chen:
“Fu Su and Chen Chaofei are also targeting that land. They want to snatch it, then turn around and blackmail the Fu Corporation. I found out Xu Ancheng will be at OneDay tomorrow night. I’ll go with you then.”
Dr. Chen:
“The redness in your gland is probably from Chen Chaofei’s pheromones today.”
Dr. Chen:
“You’ve just differentiated. Overstimulation from Alpha pheromones can easily trigger pseudo-heat. You really should apply a patch every day.”
Ji Xia replied:
sun:
“Okay. Mr. Fu already helped me put one on—the pain’s gone.”
A new message came instantly.
Dr. Chen: [thumbs-up emoji]
“Impressive! Keep it up.”
Ji Xia didn’t quite get it and sent back a confused cat sticker.
Dr. Chen:
“Nothing. Go to bed—you’ve got work tomorrow.”
Sleepiness was already washing over Ji Xia. He texted back a quick “Good,” set his phone aside, and closed his eyes.
The next evening, Ji Xia told the butler he was going out with Dr. Chen. Only then did the butler not follow.
Dr. Chen was delayed with a patient. To save time, he ordered a car for Ji Xia first, instructing him to wait inside the vehicle at the bar.
But the car was billed by the minute, and Ji Xia couldn’t stand the thought of wasting money just sitting there. He decided to get out and wait nearby.
By sheer luck, he ended up right where Xu Ancheng was dropped off.
Ji Xia hurried over, a little nervous, and greeted him.
Xu Ancheng, a strikingly handsome half-bl00d with deep eyes and sharp features, lit up at the sight of him. He flashed a bright smile.
“Hello, little beauty.”
Seeing how approachable he seemed, Ji Xia went straight to the point.
But Xu Ancheng shook his head regretfully.
“Sorry, I came out to play tonight, not to talk business.”
Afraid of missing the chance, Ji Xia asked,
“Then… could I have your contact info? We can arrange another time.”
Xu Ancheng:
“I only give my contact to friends. Sorry—you’re not one yet.”
Ji Xia:
“Then what do I need to do to become your friend?”
Xu Ancheng studied him.
“Do you like mermaids?”
Ji Xia blinked, then nodded softly.
“Good. Then we can be friends. Come on, I’ll show you something fun.”
Without hesitation, Ji Xia agreed.
“Okay.”
He quickly texted Dr. Chen, then followed Xu Ancheng into the bar.
Ji Xia had never been in one before. The deafening noise made his eardrums buzz. Fortunately, Xu Ancheng didn’t linger and instead led him straight to the third floor.
At the end of the stairwell was a single door. Xu Ancheng unlocked it with his fingerprint.
Ji Xia stepped inside and froze.
The large room’s four walls, floor, and ceiling were entirely glass, revealing swaying seaweed, schools of fish, coral reefs, and even translucent jellyfish.
In the middle sat a giant seashell bed, surrounded by plush marine toys.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Xu Ancheng smiled at Ji Xia’s dazed look.
Ji Xia nodded.
“It’s amazing.”
“I knew the first moment I saw you,” Xu Ancheng said, “that you’d be perfect.”
“Perfect for… what?” Ji Xia asked, puzzled.
Instead of answering, Xu Ancheng explained,
“I’ve loved mermaid tales since I was a child. I always dreamed of having one of my own. So I built this room. But I’ve never found my mermaid.”
Ji Xia recalled Dr. Chen saying Xu Ancheng was a romantic idealist—no amount of money would sway him. It really did seem true.
“You’re very beautiful,” Xu Ancheng continued. “Why not try on a mermaid costume? If I feel something… I’ll agree to anything you want.”
Ji Xia hesitated, then asked his system if such a costume existed. The answer was yes.
“Just a reminder, host,” the system warned. “Better not wear the mermaid outfit for anyone but Boss Fu.”
Ji Xia was about to ask why when the sound of wheels rolling across the floor interrupted him.
Turning, he saw Fu Su entering in a wheelchair.
He was wearing a wig of long, wavy hair that veiled his bare torso. His legs were wrapped in a shimmering blue tail. His expression was calm, almost cold, but his blue contacts made his eyes look impossibly large.
He swept an indifferent, disdainful glance over Ji Xia—like one looking down from above.
Ji Xia didn’t notice the scorn. He was utterly captivated. So beautiful! If mermaids were real, they must look like this.
Xu Ancheng, too, was stunned. He gasped in awe.
“My god! Su Su, you’re breathtaking! You’ve stolen my heart.”
He hurried forward, lifting Fu Su into his arms and laying him gently on the shell bed. Then, kneeling devoutly on one knee, he declared:
“Please let me pursue you! I’ll give you everything—anything within my power.”
Ji Xia panicked. Xu Ancheng was completely entranced—didn’t that mean his own chance was gone?
Flustered, he urged the system to change his clothes at once—
But before he could, a hand shot out from behind, clamping firmly over his mouth.
The force dragged him swiftly backward.
Ji Xia’s heart leapt into his throat. The suddenness left him no time to react.
At the same time, the sharp, inky scent of pheromones flooded his nose.
