- Chapter 18 - President Fu Domineeringly Protects His Wife
“Sorry.”
Ji Xia hurriedly turned sideways to apologize, panic written across his face. But the moment he saw who was behind him, all the fear and unease that had been gripping him vanished in an instant.
His big, cat-like eyes gleamed with a clear blue light, reflecting the chandeliers overhead—and the handsome face of the Alpha standing behind him.
Fu Yuan lowered his eyes and met Ji Xia’s gaze for a moment. Then he placed a steady hand on his waist and leaned in to whisper in his ear, “Don’t be afraid.”
Ji Xia nodded. Under Fu Yuan’s lead, he took two steps forward, standing back in his original position. With someone backing him up, his voice grew louder and more confident.
He said firmly: “The bite mark on my neck was made by Mr. Fu. It has nothing to do with that person at all.”
Fu Yuan’s sudden appearance had already drawn everyone’s attention, and Ji Xia’s words were like a thunderclap—its implications were shocking.
Even Fu Su, who was always expressionless like a frozen mask, lost control for once. His face showed utter disbelief.
Fu Yuan’s black, oppressive gaze swept across the room. His cold voice rang out: “You heard him. Now apologize to Ji Xia.”
The pressure of a top-tier Alpha was overwhelming. The entire banquet hall was suffused with a suffocating tension. Several Omegas couldn’t withstand it and were immediately escorted to the corners by their families.
As for the others—even the higher-ranked Alphas instinctively retreated, not daring to get too close lest they be crushed by the fallout.
Xu Ancheng and Zhao Kuo’s faces turned extremely grim. They, too, were top Alphas, but even among top Alphas, there were levels. Facing the absolute apex of their kind—and the vast power he represented—their genes and instincts screamed at them to submit.
But to be forced, at such an important occasion, to apologize to an Omega—an Omega who wasn’t even from a noble family? That was humiliating beyond measure.
If they gave in, they would become a laughingstock for society ladies and young masters for years to come.
Veins bulged at their temples. Xu Ancheng’s neck corded with strain. But they kept silent, resisting wordlessly.
Fu Su’s situation was even worse. As an Omega, his body wasn’t built to endure an Alpha’s dominance. Confronted with a top Alpha’s pressure, his face turned deathly pale.
But he could hardly think of that. His mind was spinning, stuck on Ji Xia’s earlier words: “The bite mark was made by Mr. Fu.”
What did that mean?!
It meant Fu Yuan had an Omega at his side. It meant Fu Yuan’s pheromone disorder could be cured. It meant Fu Yuan could have his own children.
And once Fu Yuan had heirs, Grandfather Fu’s support for his father would vanish. Without that backing, Fu Yuan could crush them like ants.
All the years of plotting with his father, all his suffering and sacrifices—it would all amount to nothing. Their family would be ruined, disgraced beyond redemption.
His emotions violently shook, his body writhed under the pressure. He lost the mask he had kept up for so long.
The pair of eyes once praised as flawless jade now brimmed with venomous hatred, glaring at Ji Xia as though he could bore holes straight through him.
Just last night, he had ordered Chen Chaofei to get rid of that little country Omega and give him a warning.
But Chen Chaofei had been utterly useless—failing completely and even dragging himself down with it. Pathetic!
Yet his rage was swiftly drowned out by the top Alpha’s suffocating pheromones. Fear consumed him instead.
His legs turned to jelly, cold sweat broke out across his forehead, and the glands at the nape of his neck ached faintly. If this stalemate continued, his glands might be damaged. But to apologize in front of all these nobles—to a mere country bumpkin Omega? He’d rather die.
Still, he knew all too well: before Fu Yuan, he had no right to say “no.” Out of options, he humiliated himself by tugging lightly at Zhao Kuo’s finger, silently pleading for help.
But Zhao Kuo gave him nothing—no grasp back, not even a glance.
Because Zhao Kuo didn’t notice.
Under Fu Yuan’s suffocating dominance, Zhao Kuo—for the first time in his life—tasted raw, bone-deep fear. Yet mingled with that pain and terror arose a perverse kind of thrill: the primal battle-lust of an Alpha.
His gaze fell on the beautiful Omega held protectively at Fu Yuan’s side.
It wasn’t Fu Su. This one—this was the prize.
If he wanted to prove he was the strongest Alpha, he had to seize this Omega.
From that brief glimpse the other night, he had already been haunted. Seeing him again tonight, Zhao Kuo found him even more breathtaking.
Yes—only such an Omega was worthy of him.
The desire to claim him surged fiercely. The one who should be holding that waist was not Fu Yuan. It was Zhao Kuo!
He was about to speak, but Xu Ancheng beat him to it.
Unable to withstand the pressure any longer, Xu Ancheng bowed first. “I’m sorry, baby. I shouldn’t have doubted you because of what others said. Please forgive me. As an apology, I’ll sign the land transfer agreement with Fu Corp as soon as possible.”
Ji Xia, shielded safely within Fu Yuan’s arms, hadn’t felt the tension around him.
But hearing they’d get the land, he lit up like a child, tugging Fu Yuan’s sleeve with excitement and flashing him a bright smile.
Then he politely said to Xu Ancheng: “Thank you, Mr. Xu.”
Xu Ancheng went on: “Baby, don’t mention it. I’m honored you accept my apology. From this second onward, I’ll pursue you. Even though you already have a partner, I absolutely…”
He stopped abruptly.
He could feel the crushing gaze, sharp as a blade, boring into him. The instant his eyes met Fu Yuan’s, his Alpha instincts screamed the truth—this man was an existence he could never defeat.
But Xu Ancheng couldn’t back down. He had to use romance to soften the humiliation of apologizing. And everything he said was true—if not forced, he would have confessed privately.
Sweat poured down his forehead, but he gritted through the terror, stammering to finish: “I’ll never give up!”
Ji Xia frowned. Since he already had a partner, it wasn’t right for Xu Ancheng to keep pursuing him. He was about to think of a way to dissuade him when Fu Yuan’s grip on his waist suddenly tightened.
Then Zhao Kuo stepped forward, standing directly before Fu Yuan.
His forehead was drenched in sweat, veins pulsing, face ashen. Yet his brows carried untamed defiance.
Slightly shorter than Fu Yuan, he tilted his chin upward. His voice dripped with provocation: “President Fu, last time I didn’t finish what I wanted to say. I like this little one very much. I’m determined to have him! I’ll take him from you.”
Fu Yuan glanced at him with pure disdain, letting out only a cold snort.
Zhao Kuo then turned to Ji Xia, his voice softening—rare tenderness for him.
“Xia Xia, I didn’t apologize just because Fu Yuan forced me. I truly feel I was wrong. Can you forgive me?”
The moment Ji Xia saw Zhao Kuo, he remembered the dream—Zhao Kuo pressing him down, slicing his face with a blade. His body trembled uncontrollably.
He leaned closer into Fu Yuan and turned his head away. His tone was firm: “No.”
A flash of cruelty passed through Zhao Kuo’s eyes, but he quickly suppressed it. “Then I’ll do everything I can until you forgive me.”
Ji Xia was resolute. “I will never forgive you.”
Fu Su, standing behind, heard Zhao Kuo’s words. His disbelief was so strong it nearly took physical form.
When Zhao Kuo had earlier shaken off his hand, Fu Su had resolved to discipline him later. Never did he expect Zhao Kuo to openly try to steal another Omega in front of him.
Zhao Kuo had pursued him for two years—everyone in high society knew it. For him to do this now was like grinding Fu Su’s pride into the dirt.
Grinding his teeth, he hissed, “Zhao Kuo!”
Zhao Kuo turned and looked at him with obvious impatience.
Then, glancing from Ji Xia back to Fu Su, he realized Fu Su wasn’t that extraordinary. That cold, aloof charm—after so long, it had grown tiresome.
The look stabbed Fu Su straight through the heart. His eyes turned red. “What do you mean by that?”
Zhao Kuo snapped, “It means I’m done playing with you.”
Fu Su felt as though the whole room was mocking him. Tormented, he spat out viciously, “You’ll regret this!” and tried to leave.
But as he stepped forward, Fu Yuan’s voice rang out again: “Fu Su. Apologize.”
Fu Su’s jaw clenched tight. But he knew—if he refused, he wouldn’t be allowed to leave tonight.
In the end, he could only grind his teeth and force out three words: “I’m sorry.”
After Fu Su left, Xu Ancheng and Zhao Kuo also bid Ji Xia farewell and departed the banquet. With Fu Yuan present, they couldn’t get close to the Omega—better to wait for another chance.
Fu Yuan led Ji Xia to the guest lounge nearby.
Ji Xia had barely sat down when a waiter arrived with juice and a slice of cake. Ji Xia’s eyes lit up instantly.
The path had been winding, but the outcome was bright.
The cake soothed his frightened little heart. As he ate, he bragged proudly: “Mr. Fu, I secured that piece of land! Aren’t I super useful?”
Fu Yuan crossed one leg over the other. His posture was casual, but his expression was colder than usual.
He replied, “Mm. You’re especially good at attracting bees and butterflies.”
Ji Xia choked on his cake, coughing twice before recovering. Puffing his cheeks in mild protest, he said, “I wasn’t attracting bees and butterflies—I just wanted to get the land.”
Fu Yuan asked, “Between those two, which do you like better?”
Ji Xia sipped his juice, eyes narrowing with satisfaction. “Neither.”
Fu Yuan arched a brow. “Quite picky. Those two are crown princes of the capital—countless Omegas throw themselves at them. If you don’t like them, then what kind do you like?”
Without hesitation, Ji Xia blurted out: “Of course, someone like you, Mr. Fu.”
Focused entirely on his cake, he didn’t realize how startling his words were. He only thought Mr. Fu was talking more than usual tonight.
Fu Yuan’s eyes darkened. After a long silence, his voice was cold: “Don’t waste your time on me. I’ll never marry an Omega.”
Ji Xia wanted to say he had no intention of marrying him anyway, but seeing Fu Yuan suddenly displeased, he simply answered, “Got it.”
Fu Yuan was about to add something when a waiter approached, holding a tray. Bowing respectfully, he said: “Mr. Ji, the charity auction is about to begin. Madam Qiu requests your presence upstairs.”
On the tray lay a finely carved red wooden plaque. Ji Xia blinked, confused, and turned to Fu Yuan.
Fu Yuan’s face showed rare helplessness. Rising, he said, “Come on, I’ll go with you.”
But the waiter bowed again. “President Fu, Madam Qiu has invited only Mr. Ji upstairs.”
