- After Clinging to a Big Shot, the Pitiful Omega Got Pregnant
- Chapter 19 - A Meeting Gift
Ji Xia felt that Mr. Fu seemed a little gloomy. He couldn’t help but curve his lips into a smile, but quickly pressed it down again, afraid of being noticed.
In a low voice, he asked:
“Mr. Fu, who is Old Madam Qiu? Why is she looking for me?”
Fu Yuan said:
“Probably just out of curiosity. Don’t worry about it.”
Ji Xia was full of question marks, but since Mr. Fu clearly didn’t want to say more, he didn’t press further.
Fu Yuan accompanied Ji Xia out of the lounge.
Ji Xia took the small wooden plaque and followed the waiter.
As Ji Xia stepped onto the stairs leading to the second floor, almost every gaze in the banquet hall followed him. After all, the second floor was not a place just anyone could go up to.
Everyone was curious about this beautiful Omega who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
In one corner, a lady couldn’t help but whisper:
“I wonder which family’s young master he is, so fortunate.”
The people beside her all agreed.
When Ji Xia reached the landing and turned the corner, he paused, holding onto the railing. He looked back at the banquet hall on the first floor.
At a glance, he saw the Alpha standing at the center of the crowd.
Under the dazzling crystal lights, the strikingly handsome man held a wine glass elegantly, speaking to those around him with a somewhat indifferent air.
As if sensing Ji Xia’s gaze, the Alpha turned his head. His obsidian-like eyes were still as deep as ever.
For some reason, in that instant, Ji Xia’s ears suddenly grew hot, and his heartbeat quickened.
He hurriedly averted his eyes, quickened his pace, and followed the waiter until he disappeared into the stairwell.
The waiter led Ji Xia to a pair of carved double wooden doors. After knocking politely, he stepped back. Unlike the stylish and glamorous décor downstairs, the second floor was furnished in a traditional Chinese style.
From inside came a low voice:
“Please, come in.”
Creaaak—
Ji Xia pushed open the door. The first thing he saw was a delicate screen embroidered with a hundred birds facing the phoenix.
Walking past the screen, he saw a dignified old lady in a purple cheongsam, her hair silver, gracefully brewing tea at a table. Wisps of white smoke curled up from an incense burner in the corner, filling the air with a faint fragrance.
The old lady lifted her gaze, gently studying Ji Xia with warm eyes. A pleasant smile curved her lips as she said:
“Come, sit.”
Ji Xia had been nervous the entire way, but seeing how kind and amiable Old Madam Qiu was, he felt a little more at ease.
He sat opposite her, wanting to ask why she had called him up, but didn’t know how to begin. In the end, he just sat quietly.
The old lady placed a small, delicate teacup in front of him, poured tea, and said warmly:
“This is new tea just sent from Wuyi Mountain. Try it.”
Ji Xia knew nothing about tea. His hand trembled slightly as he lifted the cup and drank it all in one gulp.
The old lady asked:
“How does it taste?”
Since he hadn’t actually tasted anything, Ji Xia felt awkward and muttered softly:
“I drank too quickly… I couldn’t taste it.”
The old lady chuckled and poured him another cup.
Ji Xia’s ears and cheeks turned red. This time he sipped more slowly, trying to think of words to describe it. But the old lady didn’t ask again; instead, she asked how old he was.
Ji Xia answered:
“Eighteen.”
A subtle look flashed across the old lady’s face. Her eyes shifted slightly before she said:
“You’re still so young. You should find someone older. Someone older knows how to cherish and care for you—that’s the advantage.”
Ji Xia: “?”
He didn’t understand what she meant and didn’t dare ask. So he just nodded.
The old lady then asked:
“Which university are you attending now?”
Holding the teacup tightly, Ji Xia lowered his gaze, his voice very soft:
“I’m not… not attending university.”
The old lady frowned slightly.
“Why not?”
Ji Xia pressed his lips into a straight line and said:
“My family was poor. And… I wasn’t good at studying.”
Hearing this, the old lady’s brows smoothed, and the heaviness on her face vanished. She said:
“It doesn’t matter. It’s just a diploma.”
Ji Xia nodded.
She asked again:
“Where is your home? What do your parents do? Any siblings?”
Ji Xia said quietly:
“I don’t have a home. My parents are gone.”
The old lady set down her teaware, stood, and moved to sit beside him.
She took his hand, patting the back of it gently, speaking with a grandmother’s warmth:
“Child, don’t be sad. Everything will get better.”
Her hand was warm. This was the first time an elder had comforted him like this.
Ji Xia said gratefully:
“Thank you, Grandma.”
Hearing him call her that, the old lady smiled, eyes crinkling.
She pulled him up and said:
“The auction is about to begin. Come with Grandma to take a look.”
Through another door, they entered a smaller room.
It wasn’t large, furnished only with a set of golden nanmu sofas. Opposite the sofa was a carved wooden window that looked directly down into the auction hall.
Pulling Ji Xia to sit with her, Old Madam Qiu said:
“Xia Xia, if you see something you like, just hand the little wooden plaque to the waiter. Since this is our first meeting, Grandma must prepare a gift for you.”
Ji Xia shook his head quickly.
“No need. I don’t lack anything right now.”
The old lady patted his hand again.
“Don’t be polite with Grandma. If you see something you like, just bid for it.”
Unable to refuse, Ji Xia could only nod.
Onstage, the host announced the start of the charity auction.
The first item was a set of blue-and-white porcelain bowls and chopsticks, once reserved for the Qing royal family.
The old lady asked:
“Do you like this set of porcelain bowls?”
Ji Xia thought they looked quite beautiful and almost nodded—until he heard the starting price, a string of astronomical numbers. His eyes widened in shock.
How could a few bowls cost so much? At once, his gaze toward the bowls turned reverent, thinking that rice served in them must taste divine.
He forcibly straightened his head and shook it.
“No… I don’t like it.”
The following items, with their sky-high prices, left Ji Xia stunned. He sat there dazed, like a stray cat who had accidentally wandered into a palace, unsure where to put himself.
Until the very last lot came up, Ji Xia never once raised his plaque.
The old lady asked:
“Nothing you like? What about this pair of gemstone cufflinks?”
Ji Xia shook his head quickly.
These things were far too valuable. Even selling himself wouldn’t cover a fraction of the cost.
The old lady studied him for a moment, then asked:
“Then Xia Xia, is there something you do like? Since it’s our first meeting, Grandma must give you a gift.”
Ji Xia wanted to say it wasn’t necessary, but when their eyes met, he changed his words.
He said:
“That layered cream cake downstairs was delicious. If Grandma insists on giving me something… could it be a piece of that cake?”
The old lady hadn’t expected such a request. She blinked in surprise before asking:
“That’s a mille-feuille cake. Are you sure that’s all you want?”
Ji Xia nodded firmly and handed the wooden plaque back to her.
But the old lady didn’t take it.
“Keep it. In the future, at any auction, if something catches your eye, just show this plaque.”
Ji Xia felt it was far too valuable and tried to refuse, but the old lady insisted he keep it.
He reluctantly tucked it away, planning to hand it over to Mr. Fu later.
By then, the final lot was sold, and the charity dinner was drawing to a close.
A waiter entered carrying a tray, bowing respectfully to the old lady.
She picked up an envelope from the tray and handed it to Ji Xia.
“Xia Xia, these are two tickets for the Royal Mona Lisa. Could you give them to Fu Yuan for me?”
Ji Xia nodded, delighted to be of help.
When the banquet ended, Ji Xia was escorted downstairs by the waiter.
The guests hadn’t left yet. Fu Yuan was still surrounded by a circle of people.
Ji Xia waited quietly in the corner. A few well-dressed Omegas came over to chat with him kindly, but Ji Xia wasn’t good at socializing and fumbled awkwardly.
Fortunately, Fu Yuan soon came over and took him away.
As they were leaving the banquet hall, a waiter ran up with a beautifully wrapped gift box, handing it to Ji Xia.
Ji Xia thanked him happily, hugging the box as he followed Fu Yuan into the car.
The car started slowly, the light inside fading into shadow.
Ji Xia held out the envelope and said:
“Grandma asked me to give this to you—two ship tickets.”
Fu Yuan narrowed his eyes slightly but didn’t take them yet.
“Do you want to go?”
Ji Xia’s eyes lit up.
“Can I, Mr. Fu? I’ve never been on a ship before.”
Fu Yuan looked at him for a moment before finally taking the envelope.
“What use is there in bringing you along?”
Ji Xia immediately started listing:
“I can carry luggage for you, cook for you, wash clothes for you. I’d be very, very useful if you brought me.”
Fu Yuan toyed with the envelope in his hand.
“I’ll think about it.”
Ji Xia leaned forward anxiously.
“Mr. Fu, you must think carefully! I’m really useful.”
As fleeting lights passed across the Alpha’s face, Ji Xia thought he saw the corners of Mr. Fu’s lips curl upward. But it was so quick he wasn’t sure if he’d imagined it.
Fu Yuan’s gaze fell on the gift box in Ji Xia’s arms.
“What’s that?”
Ji Xia’s big eyes curved into crescents.
“A gift from Grandma.”
By the time the car returned to the villa, it was already past ten.
After the previous incident, Ji Xia’s room had been moved from the attic to a small bedroom at the very end of the second floor, close to the master bedroom.
Though called a “small” bedroom, it was only small compared to the others. To Ji Xia, it was enormous—complete with a two-meter-wide, soft, fluffy bed.
He could roll around on it several times.
After showering, Ji Xia picked up the gift box and sneaked out of his room like a little cat.
He went up to the third floor and gently knocked on the door beside the staircase.
