- Chapter 20 - On the Bed or On the Ship…
The door opened, and Butler Xu’s kindly face appeared in the doorway. His butler uniform was, as always, neat and meticulous. Seeing Ji Xia, he asked gently:
“Young Master Ji, is there anything I can do for you?”
Ji Xia’s big eyes curved like crescents, stars glimmering in them. Compared with usual, he looked more confident today.
He said:
“Grandpa Xu, can I come in to talk?”
Butler Xu nodded, stepped aside, and let him in.
Ji Xia, like a happy little bird, flew into Grandpa Butler’s room.
He went straight to the little sofa, placed the gift box on the coffee table, then sat cross-legged on the carpet and began unwrapping it. Inside were triangular slices of cake.
Ji Xia pushed one piece in front of Butler Xu, smiling brightly:
“Grandpa Xu, thank you for accompanying me to the café last time. This cake is from tonight’s charity banquet, a gift from Grandma Qiu. It’s super delicious. Please try it.”
Butler Xu also sat down beside Ji Xia on the carpet, and, with his usual composure, asked:
“Thank you, Young Master Ji. Did you enjoy yourself tonight? Which lady gave you this gift?”
Ji Xia was busy unwrapping another piece. Hearing the question, he recalled being interrogated by Fu Su earlier, and his pretty brows knit together.
He wrinkled his nose:
“At first it wasn’t very fun, but later Mr. Fu came and drove away the annoying people. The auction afterward was really fun—there were so many things I’d never seen before. This cake is from Grandma Qiu.”
Butler Xu was slightly surprised.
“You went to the charity banquet?”
Ji Xia nodded.
Butler Xu said slowly:
“A few years ago, an Omega had an accident and went into heat during the banquet. Since then, the Young Master hasn’t attended for many years. I suppose he only came because he knew you would be there.”
Ji Xia didn’t think he had that much influence. He figured Mr. Fu must have gone for the land deal.
Thinking of that land, he grew excited:
“Grandpa Xu, guess what? I was amazing today—I helped Mr. Fu secure that piece of land! Grandma Qiu even gave him two cruise tickets, and he’s considering taking me with him. I must be super useful in his heart now!”
Butler Xu’s hands froze as he was opening the cake box, surprise flashing across his face.
“Cruise tickets?”
Ji Xia tried to recall:
“It was something like Royal… something.”
Butler Xu’s eyes sharpened:
“The Royal Mona Lisa?”
Ji Xia’s eyes lit up:
“Yes! That’s the name!”
Excitement flickered across Butler Xu’s usually calm expression.
“Has the Young Master agreed to board the ship?”
Ji Xia thought aloud:
“Well, Mr. Fu took the tickets, so I guess he’s going, right?!”
Butler Xu’s hand trembled slightly. After a long pause, he steadied his voice, but the upward lilt at the end betrayed his agitation.
“He’s considering bringing you aboard?”
Ji Xia bit the fork, his face a little flushed.
“I’ve never been on a ship, so I asked him to take me. But he’s still thinking about it. I don’t know if he’ll bring me.”
For once, a rare joy appeared on Butler Xu’s face.
After a moment of thought, he said seriously:
“Young Master Ji, your first heat may arrive before boarding. Please, make sure not to use suppressants.”
Ji Xia blushed, surprised:
“Grandpa Xu, how did you know?”
Even he only knew because Dr. Chen had warned him.
Butler Xu explained:
“As a butler, I must know everything about anyone who enters this villa. It’s my duty to ensure the Young Master’s safety.”
Ji Xia was impressed, finding Grandpa Xu amazing.
“Dr. Chen has already explained it to me. Before my heat, I’ll ask Mr. Fu for a supplementary mark.”
Butler Xu nodded.
“Good. Thank you, Young Master Ji.”
Ji Xia was baffled at why he was being thanked, but when he saw Butler Xu’s grateful expression, he swallowed his questions.
“I should thank you too, Grandpa Xu, for helping me last time. Come on, try the cake—it’s really delicious.”
Butler Xu took a bite. After swallowing, he said softly:
“Mr. Qiu also loved sweets.”
Ji Xia blinked in confusion.
“Mr. Qiu… who’s that?”
Butler Xu lowered his voice:
“The Young Master’s Omega father. He passed away when Fu Shao was five. Since then, the Young Master has hated sweets.”
Ji Xia hadn’t expected that to be the reason behind Mr. Fu’s distaste for desserts, and he fell silent.
Butler Xu continued:
“Ever since Mr. Qiu’s passing, the Young Master has kept everything bottled up, often overthinking. If he ever does something wrong in the future, I hope you can forgive him.”
Ji Xia didn’t think Mr. Fu could ever do wrong. And even if he did, he surely wouldn’t need Ji Xia’s forgiveness.
But seeing Butler Xu’s solemn expression, Ji Xia nodded earnestly:
“Alright, I’ll just criticize him a little.”
Half an hour later, after finishing the cakes with Butler Xu, Ji Xia happily bounced downstairs and back to his room.
After brushing his teeth, he rolled around on the big bed. His gaze landed on the small wooden plaque, reminding him he’d forgotten to give it to Mr. Fu. Since it was late, he decided to wait until tomorrow.
He had just closed his eyes when they snapped open again. He realized he’d followed Mr. Fu home without telling Dr. Chen.
Ji Xia rolled over, grabbed his phone, and sent a message.
Dr. Chen replied instantly with a video call.
“Xia Xia, I’m so touched. Even when your Mr. Fu isn’t around, you still think of poor tool-man Dr. Chen. Don’t worry, I’m alive and safe at home.”
Ji Xia’s ears turned red, and he quickly apologized.
Dr. Chen stopped teasing and pried curiously about what had happened when Madam Qiu summoned him upstairs.
Ji Xia recounted everything, then asked:
“Dr. Chen, who exactly is Madam Qiu? What’s her relationship with Mr. Fu?”
Dr. Chen raised a brow:
“Fu Zong didn’t tell you?”
Ji Xia shook his head.
“No.”
Dr. Chen shrugged:
“Not important. What’s important is—you’re about to board a ship with an Alpha.”
Ji Xia frowned. Something about the way he said it sounded off, but he couldn’t pinpoint what.
“It’s not certain yet. Mr. Fu’s still considering.”
Dr. Chen declared confidently:
“If Fu decides to board, he’ll definitely take you. Which means—you need to study up in advance.”
Ji Xia, who had never been on a ship, thought this made sense. He should learn what to prepare to avoid panicking later.
“Dr. Chen, what should I learn?”
Dr. Chen said solemnly:
“Wait. I’ll send you some videos. Watch them carefully before you board.”
Ji Xia promised to study diligently.
Once the call ended, several video files appeared in his chat, all with black thumbnails.
Ji Xia sat up, looking serious, and opened the first one.
The screen was black for two seconds, then flashed on: a fair-skinned youth lay sideways on a bed, wearing only a white shirt. He crooked a finger at the camera.
Next, a tanned, shirtless man appeared, walking toward the bed.
Ji Xia blinked, puzzled.
What’s this supposed to teach me?
The next second, he understood—this was an adult film.
Moans and breathy sounds spilled from the phone’s speaker. Ji Xia’s face burned bright red, flushing all the way to his neck. Squinting through his lashes, he quickly exited before the two men on screen fully entangled.
Heart racing, he immediately deleted the chat with Dr. Chen, covering his tracks. He even nervously glanced at the door before finally calming down.
He could hardly believe it—Dr. Chen had sent him porn!
Furious, he hammered a message into his phone:
“It’s on the ship, not on the bed!”
Dr. Chen replied:
“Xia Xia, you’re eighteen now. You’ll have to learn sooner or later. Better early than taking wrong turns.”
Ji Xia refused to respond further, tossed his phone aside, and went to sleep.
The next morning, having proven his value and secured his place at the Fu residence, Ji Xia finally relaxed and began his big plan—to set up a food stall.
He made ten cupcakes, ten boxes of tiramisu, and some bread. With his cheap foldable stall table ordered online, he hopped on the back of Butler Xu’s little scooter and headed to a shopping plaza around 4 p.m.
In the designated stall area, Ji Xia set up his table and hand-written sign, while Butler Xu helped arrange the goods.
Once everything was ready, Ji Xia said:
“Grandpa Xu, you can head back. I’ll handle this. Thank you.”
Butler Xu smiled:
“No need for thanks, it’s nothing. Call me when you’re closing up—I’ll come fetch you.”
Ji Xia agreed.
At first, there weren’t many customers. But as school and work let out, crowds poured into the plaza, and business picked up.
His first customer was a pretty Omega lady, who bought two boxes of tiramisu. She smiled at him:
“The boss is so handsome. If it tastes good, I’ll definitely come again.”
After that, cupcakes and bread sold steadily. One auntie who bought bread even came back for more, praising how delicious it was.
Ji Xia’s cheeks flushed pink from the compliments.
By around 11 p.m., foot traffic slowed, and most of his goods were gone. Only a few breads, two cupcakes, and one tiramisu remained.
His first day went really well, and Ji Xia was delighted.
He was about to text Butler Xu to come get him when someone called out:
“Xia Xia!”
He looked up to see Xu Ancheng, holding a bouquet of blue roses.
Xu Ancheng’s eyes sparkled.
“Xia Xia, you amaze me! To experience life in such a hardworking way… I like you even more.”
Ji Xia: ………..
He didn’t know how to respond, so he silently sent a message to Butler Xu.
Xu Ancheng, ignoring the cold shoulder, held out the roses.
“Xia Xia, I’ve already fulfilled my promise and signed the contract with Fu Corporation. Please give me a chance to pursue you.”
Noticing the stares of passersby, Ji Xia felt awkward.
“President Xu, please don’t do this. I don’t like you.”
Xu Ancheng declared stubbornly:
“I won’t give up. Xia Xia, you’re my mermaid. I’ve been searching for you all this time. Now that I’ve finally found you, I’ll never let you go.”
Ji Xia realized if he didn’t make things clear, he’d never be able to run his stall in peace.
After some thought, he said:
“I’m not your mermaid. Your mermaid is Fu Su. I saw it that day too.”
Xu Ancheng denied it.
“Xia Xia, are you blaming me for mistaking you? Fu Su was truly beautiful that day. I was bewitched, and I apologize. But you must allow me one mistake—I’ve been searching for you too long.”
Ji Xia groaned in frustration.
“President Xu, I really don’t like you. I’m not your mermaid. Please stop pestering me.”
Xu Ancheng’s eyes darkened at Ji Xia’s firm tone.
To him, Ji Xia was his mermaid. He couldn’t let go.
If the ocean was too vast to hold onto him, then he would build a crystal palace where his mermaid could live—only with him.
After a pause, Xu Ancheng said coldly:
“Unless you put on a mermaid costume for me. If I feel nothing, I’ll stop bothering you.”
