- After Clinging to a Big Shot, the Pitiful Omega Got Pregnant
- Chapter 5 - Useless Ji Xia
When Ji Xia woke up, sunlight was streaming through the attic’s glass window and onto his face. He reached out and grabbed at the light before getting up from the sofa. He noticed that the student uniform he’d been wearing had disappeared and was replaced by his own clothes.
Yesterday’s accident meant the new outfit didn’t have its intended effect. Instead of increasing his favorability, it actually lowered it.
Ji Xia covered his face with his hand, feeling a bit unlucky.
As he moved, a wave of pain shot through his arms and ankles, causing him to let out a soft “hiss.” He checked his body and saw a large bruise on his arm and a swollen right ankle that throbbed with a dull ache when he put weight on it.
He massaged it for a while and walked around the attic to get used to the pain before opening the door and heading downstairs.
At home, he worked three jobs, finishing at 3 AM and waking up at 6 AM. So, even without an alarm, he was certain he hadn’t overslept, that is, until he saw the time on the grandfather clock in the living room: 9:47 AM. He froze.
Just then, a silver-haired elderly man in a suit and a red bow tie came out of the kitchen. He smiled kindly when he saw Ji Xia, but his words were like a devil’s whisper. “Young Master Ji, I’m the butler here. My name is Xu. The young master asked me to tell you that other than eating and sleeping, he doesn’t see any value in you.”
Ji Xia’s face turned beet-red.
He explained, “Grandpa Xu, I just felt it would be a waste of food. I usually wake up very early every day. Today was just an exception.”
Butler Xu’s eyes crinkled with a smile, the curve of his lips unchanging as he said, “Does Young Master Ji need breakfast now?”
Ji Xia immediately shook his head, afraid of being labeled a glutton. He asked, “Where is Mr. Fu?”
Butler Xu replied, “The young master is in the study.”
Ji Xia thanked him and turned to go upstairs. But with his injured foot, he walked slowly and unsteadily.
By the time he reached the second floor, his forehead was covered in a light sweat. After catching his breath, he knocked on the study door. After hearing “come in,” he pushed the door open.
The Alpha sat at the desk without looking up, yet his powerful presence and intimidating aura still made anyone who approached feel immense pressure.
Ji Xia was struck speechless, swallowing all the words he had prepared on his way up. He stood by the desk, timid as a quail, peeking around.
Fu Yuan looked up, his expression indifferent.
Ji Xia immediately offered eagerly, “Mr. Fu, is there anything I can help you with?”
Fu Yuan said coldly, “Isn’t it your job to figure out how to demonstrate your value to me?”
Ji Xia felt that Mr. Fu was indeed very scary.
He subconsciously pursed his lips and said, “I’ll think about it carefully.”
After a moment, Fu Yuan handed him a stack of documents and said, “This is a three-hundred-million-dollar project. Take a look and see what you think about its investment prospects.”
Ji Xia was stunned. Three hundred million… he probably couldn’t judge its prospects. But he took the documents with a “what if” attitude.
When he saw the contents of the first page, the serious look on his face turned to one of numbness. With his middle-school education, he couldn’t even understand what was written there.
Ji Xia struggled for a while before putting the documents down and saying, “I’m sorry, Mr. Fu, but I don’t understand this.”
Fu Yuan uttered two icy words: “Useless.”
Ji Xia said, “I can’t do this, but I can do other things. As Confucius said, ‘When three people walk together, there must be one who can be my teacher.’ Even Mr. Fu has things he could learn from me.”
Fu Yuan said, “For example?”
Ji Xia was stumped for a moment before saying, “There are many.”
Fu Yuan: “Give me an example.”
Ji Xia pressed on. “Cleaning, wiping windows, washing cars…”
Fu Yuan nodded in agreement. “I do know how to do those things. However, I’ve hired professionals to take care of them. I don’t need to do them myself.”
Ji Xia volunteered. “I can take care of those things for you.”
Fu Yuan glanced at him, but said nothing.
Ji Xia sensed an opportunity and immediately went outside to find Butler Xu for a small bucket and a rag. He returned to the study, ready to show off his skills and prove his worth to Fu Yuan.
He wrung the rag and walked toward the bookshelf, only to find that it was spotless. The books and decorations were neatly arranged, needing no cleaning at all.
He walked around the study and sadly realized the entire room was already perfectly clean. There was nothing for him to do.
Ji Xia reluctantly searched again, still finding nothing. He worriedly picked at his fingers, timidly glanced at the Alpha, and seeing that the Alpha wasn’t looking, he quickly reached out and put a sweaty handprint on the perfectly clean glass window.
He didn’t dare look at Fu Yuan. His eyes darted around, and his voice wavered as he said, “Mr. Fu, see? The window isn’t clean. If you let me do it, I can do a better job.”
Fu Yuan’s cold gaze landed on him.
Ji Xia’s courage faltered. He immediately grabbed a chair, climbed on it, and wiped off the handprint before it could be discovered that it was his. As he jumped down from the chair, he was so flustered that he wasn’t careful with his footing, and his injured foot twisted again. The pain made his vision go black.
He bit his lower lip tightly to endure the pain.
His small face was pale as he earnestly said, “Mr. Fu, I have a secret recipe for cleaning windows until they sparkle.”
Fu Yuan glanced at the window glass, then turned his gaze back to Ji Xia’s face. “Hm. Not bad.”
Ji Xia’s cat-like eyes immediately lit up.
Fu Yuan continued, “I don’t need so many people to clean for me. Since you’re better than them, I’ll fire them and hire you. How about a monthly salary of thirty thousand to handle the villa’s cleaning?”
Ji Xia’s lips formed a hard line. He wanted to nod. If he just nodded, he could stay in the villa and avoid the horrible fate of a cannon fodder, a life where he would die alone on a cold winter night.
He wouldn’t be beaten every day, his money wouldn’t be stolen, he’d be able to eat his fill, earn a high salary, and have a place of his own to sleep.
Fu Yuan: “Hm?”
Ji Xia’s nails dug deeply into his flesh. He lowered his head and, after a long silence, softly said, “Hm.”
Fu Yuan’s eyes grew a little colder. He picked up his phone. “Fire…”
“Mr. Fu!”
Fu Yuan looked up at him.
Ji Xia’s small face was deathly pale, and his eyes were red-rimmed. “The… the handprint was mine… it was mine.”
Fu Yuan hung up the phone.
Ji Xia lowered his head again. He knew he was finished and was about to be kicked out.
“Congratulations, Host! Fu Yuan’s favorability +2.”
Ji Xia blinked his big eyes, secretly glancing up at Fu Yuan. The moment their eyes met, Fu Yuan’s icy gaze sent a shiver down his spine.
He thought the system must have malfunctioned. The -2 must have become a +2.
Fu Yuan said, “I hate people who deceive me the most.”
Ji Xia lowered his head even more.
He wanted to defend himself but, after thinking about it, realized there was no point. He whispered, “I’m sorry.”
Fu Yuan: “I hope you can change my bad impression of you in the remaining day and a half.”
Ji Xia looked up abruptly, his dull eyes regaining their sparkle. “Yes, I will, I definitely will.”
Fu Yuan glanced at his watch. “I want to eat fresh oranges in twenty minutes.”
Ji Xia remembered there were some in the fridge and immediately said, “I guarantee I’ll complete the task.”
With that, he rushed toward the door. However, just as he reached it, the closed study door was pushed open from the outside. Ji Xia couldn’t dodge in time, and the door hit his face.
Thankfully, the person opening the door was gentle, and he wasn’t too close, so it only barely grazed his forehead.
Ji Xia was so focused on completing the task and proving his worth that he didn’t pay much attention to his reddened forehead. He was in a hurry to get out, but when he saw the tray Butler Xu was holding, with its plate of carefully sliced and beautifully arranged fresh oranges and a glass of golden-orange freshly squeezed juice beside it, he froze.
Butler Xu had received a two-word phone call from the young master, and after pondering over it for a while, he couldn’t figure out the intention. So, he took the opportunity of bringing fruit to ask about it.
He didn’t expect to open the door and bump into the Omega the young master had brought back last night. Seeing the Omega’s dazed expression, he wondered if he had knocked him silly. Looking at the young master, he saw a rare sense of amusement on his face.
Butler Xu quietly placed the fruit plate down and left the study.
Ji Xia turned around, his beautiful big eyes clouded with a layer of mist, looking at Fu Yuan pitifully.
“Congratulations, Host! Fu Yuan’s favorability +1.”
Ji Xia: ?
Mr. Fu’s face was clearly cold enough to freeze.
He felt the system he had bound to must really be malfunctioning.
Fu Yuan said in a tone of regret, “Once again, you’ve proven you’re useless.”
Ji Xia struggled to defend himself. “This was an accident. It doesn’t prove anything. I’m very useful.”
Fu Yuan gave an noncommittal hum and lowered his head to continue working on his documents.
Ji Xia wanted to wait for Fu Yuan to make another request, so he sat in the office chair across from him.
After sitting idly for a while, he felt that this was a pure waste of time and life. With Fu Yuan’s consent, he picked up the thickest book on economics and tried to study it.
Ji Xia propped the book on the table, sat up straight, and read earnestly.
Ten minutes later, he was slumped on the table, eyelids heavy and drowsy. Then he fell asleep.
With a “thud,” the book he was propping up was knocked down by the sleeping person, making a noise that disturbed the person who was diligently working.
Fu Yuan: ……………
Just then, Butler Xu knocked on the door to announce that it was time for dinner.
Fu Yuan got up and, as he left the study, said in a low voice, “When he wakes up, have Chen Xi come and take a look. Don’t tell him.”
Butler Xu responded, “Yes,” and gently closed the door.
