After Confessing To My Childhood Friend - Chapter 41
Chapter 41: “Guess What”
◎ Dream-Yin Energy Depleted ◎
Chen Mengyin locked the door behind her and leaned on it with a long sigh of relief.
She hadn’t expected that the subtle kiss tonight would be seen by Li Ran. Fortunately, it was Li Ran who saw it and not someone else—otherwise, tonight really would’ve turned into chaos and no one would’ve been spared.
“What happened?” Xie Zhirou had come out from her shower and didn’t see Chen Mengyin around. Now, seeing her return looking like she had just survived a disaster, she couldn’t help but feel curious.
“I’ll tell you after I take a shower,” Chen Mengyin wiped away her imaginary sweat. Having just dealt with one of her big worries, she was in a great mood, even humming as she passed by Xie Zhirou and planted a kiss on her cheek.
After showering, Chen Mengyin turned off the lights and slipped into bed, snuggling close to Xie Zhirou. The warm bed was instantly filled with the sweet scent of her body wash.
Xie Zhirou suspected that what had crawled into bed wasn’t Chen Mengyin but a peach-flavored marshmallow. How else could someone feel so soft to hold, so sweet to kiss, and, when squeezed, seem to ooze peach-flavored filling? Completely irresistible.
“Wait—hold on, guess what just happened?” Chen Mengyin broke away from a passionate kiss, licking her lips still wet from the affection. Instead of telling directly, she insisted Xie Zhirou guess.
But Xie Zhirou didn’t guess—she just kept kissing her. From her forehead to her chin, from her chin to her collarbone, not sparing a single spot. She even bit her collarbone teasingly. Chen Mengyin gasped and asked when she had turned into a dog—why didn’t she know?
“Woof,” Xie Zhirou chuckled. “Just now.”
Chen Mengyin refused to admit that she was charmed by that. She pushed Xie Zhirou away slightly and urged, “Stop distracting me. Guess! Just guess, please~”
She was clearly the one with the upper hand, yet now she was the one pleading.
Xie Zhirou rubbed her fluffy head against Chen Mengyin’s neck, leaving a trail of wet kisses. Tonight, she was low on Dream-Yin energy and needed to recharge.
Chen Mengyin was kissed weak in the knees and lay limp in Xie Zhirou’s arms, letting her do as she pleased.
“I know you went out to talk with your mom,” Xie Zhirou said after getting her fill, pecking Chen Mengyin’s lips. “And I also know what she wanted to talk about.”
“What did my mom say to me, then?” Chen Mengyin gulped nervously.
“She talked about us being together,” Xie Zhirou answered.
“And I know… she gave us her silent approval.”
Chen Mengyin: “?!”
“How do you know that?!” Xie Zhirou was spot on. If Chen Mengyin didn’t know her so well, she would’ve thought Xie Zhirou had secretly eavesdropped on the conversation.
“Ah… probably because I saw your mom looking our way while you kissed me earlier,” Xie Zhirou said casually.
“Huh?!” Chen Mengyin’s voice rose an octave in panic. “Why didn’t you tell me?!”
She had kissed Xie Zhirou several more times after that! Had her mom seen all of them?
That would be way too embarrassing!
Fuming, she considered biting Xie Zhirou on the collarbone as punishment for keeping this to herself.
“You’re too wicked.” In the end, she did bite her, her breath hot against Xie Zhirou’s sensitive neck as she mumbled through her teeth.
Xie Zhirou accepted her punishment and stroked her hair. “I didn’t tell you because I was afraid you’d panic and ruin the holiday mood.”
“And since she didn’t scold us on the spot, it means your little sneak kiss wasn’t a big deal compared to keeping the peace during New Year’s Eve.”
“Then after your shower, you came back looking so relieved… what else could it have been if not your mom giving us the green light?”
“Hmmph, what if it was something else?” Chen Mengyin pouted, unwilling to admit that Xie Zhirou’s deduction was perfectly accurate.
Xie Zhirou kissed her lips. “Then I’d have to ask my sweet little Mumu to tell me.”
“Ahhh! Don’t call me that!” Chen Mengyin covered her mouth, blushing furiously. “Call me that again and I’ll get mad!”
Xie Zhirou stuck out her tongue and licked Chen Mengyin’s palm, looking completely innocent.
“You… you you…” Chen Mengyin stammered, unable to scold her properly. Xie Zhirou’s puppy eyes were too cute to be mad at.
To be honest, Chen Mengyin actually liked when Xie Zhirou teased her like this. It made her feel like she was special to her.
She loved how Xie Zhirou let down her cold, untouchable facade just for her, becoming completely captivated.
And that made Chen Mengyin feel fulfilled.
“Don’t be mad anymore.” Xie Zhirou kissed her palm, then looked into her eyes as if asking for forgiveness.
“I’m not mad…” Chen Mengyin muttered. “I just wanted to tell you the good news, but you already knew everything.”
“My mom scolded me like crazy and I even stood in the snow freezing out there. Then I came back only to be bullied by you—it’s so unfair. You have to make it up to me!”
“You worked hard.” Xie Zhirou kissed her forehead. “What kind of compensation do you want?”
“Hehe…” Chen Mengyin grinned mischievously, her hands roaming toward sensitive areas, sparking flames wherever she touched. “What do you think?”
“Understood, my master.” Xie Zhirou kissed her again, using both her hands and lips to bring her waves of pleasure. They played under the covers late into the night, eventually falling asleep in each other’s arms as dawn broke.
…
The Next Day
Chen Mengyin slept until midday. The sun was out for once on New Year’s Day, and the snow on the roads was melting into sparkling puddles.
Rubbing her sore waist, she sat up. Her once neat pajamas had been disheveled in their nightly “activities,” revealing large swaths of fair skin.
Xie Zhirou was still asleep, one arm around her waist, her warm breath tickling her side.
Chen Mengyin pulled her nearly-dead phone from under the pillow and was shocked to see it was already 2 PM—and even more shocked that Li Ran hadn’t come to wake her.
“What time is it?” Xie Zhirou nuzzled against her waist.
“Two,” Chen Mengyin replied, dazed. “We slept straight through till afternoon.”
Xie Zhirou was surprised too.
“Oh my god, what will my mom think…” Chen Mengyin covered her face.
Just last night she’d come out to her mother, and now the two of them hadn’t even left their room the next morning—it looked like they were blatantly ignoring everything her mom had said.
Thankfully, she’d had the sense to keep quiet during their fun last night, or else she wouldn’t have dared leave her room today.
“It’s fine. It’s a holiday. Staying up late and sleeping in is normal,” Xie Zhirou soothed her, rubbing her back.
“Y-yeah. We just stayed up too late.” What they were doing? Don’t ask. Just… stayed up.
After a quick self pep-talk, Chen Mengyin got out of bed to brush her teeth.
Xie Zhirou followed, and the two stood side by side in front of the mirror, brushing.
Watching Xie Zhirou with a ring of foam around her mouth, Chen Mengyin silently giggled.
Once dressed and ready, they went downstairs.
“Mom, is there anything to eat? I’m starving,” Chen Mengyin shuffled in her slippers.
Li Ran gave her a disapproving glance. “Walk properly. Look at Zhirou—so graceful.”
Chen Mengyin looked at her girlfriend, straight and elegant as ever. She wholeheartedly agreed—her girlfriend even walked better than most.
Li Ran could guess what her daughter was thinking and just sighed internally.
“Zhirou, come here. Don’t mind Mengyin,” Li Ran called while playing with their cats, Zhaocai and Jinbao. “There’s porridge warming in the kitchen. I also made some pickled vegetables and scrambled eggs. Go eat.”
“Thank you, Auntie,” Xie Zhirou said calmly, linking arms with Chen Mengyin as they walked by.
Chen Mengyin paused to pet the cats and asked where Chen Lin was.
“He went out to buy a security camera and stuff for the cats,” Li Ran replied.
Chen Mengyin nodded and followed Xie Zhirou to the kitchen.
After last night’s rich food, her stomach felt uneasy. A bowl of warm porridge with crispy, tangy pickled vegetables hit the spot.
“Ahhh, after heavy food, light dishes are the best. So comfy,” she said, slumping in her chair.
Xie Zhirou stood and cleared their dishes, stopping Chen Mengyin from helping and washing them herself.
Li Ran, watching this from the living room, gained a deeper understanding of their relationship.
She sighed and turned away before the two girls noticed, focusing instead on playing with the cats.
“I should go home for a bit. My moms are home today,” Xie Zhirou said.
Chen Mengyin was reluctant but understood. It had been a while since Xie Zhirou spent time with her moms.
She nodded. “Okay.”
Xie Zhirou ruffled her hair. Before Chen Mengyin could retaliate, she bid Li Ran goodbye.
Li Ran knew about her situation too and didn’t insist on keeping her. “You’re welcome to come back after your mom returns to work.”
Xie Zhirou smiled. “Thank you, Auntie. Goodbye.”
“Bye. Take good care of your mom,” Li Ran said.
“Okay.” Xie Zhirou waved to Chen Mengyin before leaving.
The door shut. Chen Mengyin stood at the entrance like a statue, unwilling to move.
Li Ran gave her a smack on the head. “Go do your homework! Just because it’s break time doesn’t mean you can slack off. Didn’t you say you wanted to be worthy of Zhirou? Then prove it—or Tang Jingxue will look down on you!”
Holding her head, Chen Mengyin winced. “Got it! And don’t hit me again—my brain’s precious now!”
Li Ran scoffed and raised her hand again. Chen Mengyin yelped and ran off, yelling, “Police! Domestic violence!”
“I’ll show you what ‘house rules’ mean!” Li Ran shouted, then picked up Zhaocai and kissed her. Jinbao, not getting any kisses, pawed at her urgently.
She kissed Jinbao’s head too.
Ah, cat daughters are so sweet and easy to please! Li Ran thought, content.
