After Disabled A was Reborn, She Got Scummed Again - Chapter 14
“Here.” Another assistant stepped forward and handed over a voice recorder. “The person who posted it said it was Chen Sheng who paid him to spread the clip.”
She held a tablet in her other hand, playing security footage from a nearby internet café and surrounding streets. “And this is the surveillance footage—clearly shows she orchestrated the whole thing.”
“Give it to her,” Qin Xiao said, slightly lifting her chin in indication.
The voice recorder was handed to Chu Qiyan, who still hadn’t recovered from the shock.
“Chen Sheng, why would you do this?” Chu Qiyan asked with a frown, her expression now clouded with disappointment after the initial surprise.
She had known Chen Sheng since freshman year—they had been close friends for years.
“No—it wasn’t me, Qiyan, don’t believe them! They’re framing me!” Chen Sheng struggled to defend herself, desperation all over her face.
“Chen Sheng… we’ve been friends for years. Why would you do this to me?” Qiyan’s round apricot eyes shimmered with hurt. It never crossed her mind that even her closest friend would betray her.
“Hah… friend? Don’t make me laugh!” Chen Sheng suddenly broke down. “You’re just a commoner. How could someone like you be my friend?! Chu Qiyan, you’re nothing but a liar, a thief—you tricked us into believing you were the Chu family’s real heiress, and you stole Chu Qian’s identity for over twenty years! What right do you have to stand here? What right do you have to be at Jingyan University?!”
Now that all the evidence was out and Qin Xiao was helping Qiyan, no one could protect Chen Sheng anymore. She had nothing left.
“Chen Sheng, don’t talk about my sister like that! She’s not that kind of person!” Chu Qian stepped in, adopting a gentle, soft-spoken tone, carefully putting on a show in front of Qin Xiao and everyone else.
Tong Ran stood just behind Chu Qian, avoiding eye contact with Chen Sheng.
They had all been friends once—longtime companions of Chu Qiyan. But ever since Chu Qian entered the picture, everything changed. The real heiress of the Chu family had been found, and of course, if you wanted to stay relevant, you had to stick with the genuine article.
What did Chu Qiyan matter anymore if she was just a fake?
“You and I were the same. So why did you get to rise above us, suddenly become someone important? You weren’t even better than me!” Chen Sheng yelled, her voice echoing in the office.
“Chen Sheng, how can you say that? Didn’t Qiyan help you back then? You’re so ungrateful—you repay kindness with betrayal! How dare you use something like this to frame her?!” Tian Shi snapped back, unable to hold her anger any longer.
Back when they first entered the university, Chen Sheng had been bullied by a few heirs of prestigious families near a grove by the road. It was Chu Qiyan who stood up for her, teaching those bullies a lesson and helping her out. That’s how their friendship began.
Though Tian Shi and Chen Sheng weren’t particularly close—they were from different departments—the bond they had through Qiyan had always made them feel like part of the same group.
“Where did you get that video, Chen Sheng?” Qiyan asked coldly, her brows furrowed tight, eyes brimming with both confusion and disappointment.
Chu Qian and Tong Ran held their breath beside her. The office was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
“I picked it up,” Chen Sheng sneered.
“Chen Sheng, there’s no point protecting anyone now. Just tell the truth—where did you really get it?” Qiyan’s voice turned icy, her tone no longer soft but edged with anger.
“I told you—I picked it up! Found it in a coffee shop! How was I supposed to know the USB had your video on it? Isn’t that just too convenient? What now, guilty much? Trying to cover up what you did?” she spat, voice laced with venom.
“Qin Xiao, you see? This is who Chu Qiyan really is! You still want to be engaged to her?!” Chen Sheng turned to Qin Xiao, practically shrieking in desperation.
“You should’ve never gotten engaged to her in the first place! You never belonged in our circle! You should’ve kept your head down and stayed in your lane as a fake heiress!” Chen Sheng screamed, her eyes practically burning with hatred, like she wanted to devour Chu Qiyan whole.
They had once stood on the same rung of the social ladder, the lowest tier of their elite circle—looked down on and suppressed by those with real power. But somehow, Qiyan had managed to latch on to Qin Xiao and catapulted herself into the upper crust.
No. They weren’t the same. Chu Qiyan wasn’t even a real Chu. She was just a nobody, an outsider. So what gave her the right to shine in every crowd, to be adored and protected?
She should’ve been like the rest of them—bullied, looked down on, helpless against powerful heirs.
And from everything Chu Qian and Tong Ran had told her, Chu Qiyan was a hypocrite—constantly flirting with alphas, cozying up to them in private. Someone like her didn’t deserve to be with Qin Xiao.
Chen Sheng clenched her fists, filled with bitterness. She couldn’t accept it. Chu Qiyan was lower than her in every way. She didn’t deserve the Chu family, didn’t deserve Qin Xiao, didn’t deserve to outrank her—didn’t deserve anything.
“Chen Sheng,” Chu Qiyan said calmly, setting the voice recorder on the table. “Look at yourself now. Are you any different from the people who used to bully you?”
“Hah… Save the act, Chu Qiyan. Don’t pretend to be some saint. You’re not worthy of helping anyone—least of all me!” Chen Sheng sneered.
“Enough. Everything’s clear now. Any objections?” Qin Xiao said, her tone cool and firm as she closed the case.
“Assistant Liu, hand all of this over to the principal. It’s an internal school matter after all,” she added with finality.
“Understood.” The vice principal quickly gathered the evidence, nodding furiously, forehead glistening with sweat. With a quick bow, he left the office, taking the restrained Chen Sheng with him.
“Chu Qian. Why are you here?” Qiyan finally turned to face her oh-so-concerned sister.
“Big sis… we saw something going on and came to check it out,” Chu Qian replied softly, her big watery eyes glimmering innocently.
“They came with Chen Sheng,” the assistant exposed her flatly.
“Was it you, Chu Qian?” Qiyan immediately locked eyes with her, gaze cold as ice.
“What do you mean, sis? I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Chu Qian pretend to be innocent.
“…We hadn’t seen Chen Sheng in a long time. We just happened to run into her and planned to grab some milk tea,” Tong Ran offered weakly, eyes lowered in guilt.
Qiyan furrowed her brows, completely done with their performance. She didn’t have the energy to deal with them anymore.
“Let’s go,” Qin Xiao said softly.
Assistant Liu began pushing her wheelchair toward the exit.
“Chu Qiyan,” Qin Xiao called out.
After a pause, Qiyan obediently followed.
The others in the room exchanged awkward glances, left in stunned silence.
Tian Shi and Zhang Qian exchanged a look, then quickly followed Chu Qiyan.
“Thank you, Qin Xiao,” Qiyan said as she reached her side, her smile gentle and radiant.
A gentle, radiant smile blossomed on her face, her lips lifting just slightly. Her obsidian-like eyes sparkled brilliantly, and under the golden sunlight, it was as if they were wrapped in a sheer veil of stardust—breathtakingly beautiful.
Qin Xiao couldn’t help the faint curve that formed at the corner of her own lips.
Looking at her now, Qin Xiao was reminded of the first time they met at the university. She had been standing in the back of the crowd, fair-skinned and delicately pretty, her features especially striking.
Such a beautiful face, and yet, she’d worn an unhappy expression. Her brows furrowed, eyes heavy with thoughts. She’d looked like a lost little pup, anxious and desperate to find a way out—pitiful, really. Qin Xiao’s heart had softened at the sight, and whatever lingering irritation she’d felt had quietly faded away.
She had told Chu Qiyan clearly—if something came up, she should come to her. She’d even gone so far as to add her on WeChat, afraid the other girl wouldn’t be able to reach her otherwise. And yet Chu Qiyan had ignored her completely and gone to someone else for help.
“Have you eaten yet? ”Qin Xiao suddenly remembered to ask.
“…No,” Chu Qiyan paused, then answered honestly. She’d been busy dealing with everything all morning and hadn’t had time to eat. It was already past one in the afternoon.
“Come on. Let’s go to my company for lunch.” Seated in the backseat of a sleek black car, Qin Xiao reached a hand out to her.
The sun was bright, almost glaring, and Qin Xiao maintained her usual cold, aristocratic demeanor. But at this moment, her narrow phoenix eyes curved slightly, holding a trace of gentleness. It was as if the icy mountain had been warmed by sunlight. Her fair skin was nearly translucent, her aura refined like a dusting of fresh snow, tinged with noble grace. A few strands of her dark, glossy, short hair fluttered in the breeze—like an angel reaching out to save her, to rescue her from her chaotic, broken life.
In that instant, Chu Qiyan’s heart skipped a beat. Her racing pulse seemed to urge her to say yes immediately, but her thoughts were scattered, captivated by Qin Xiao’s breathtaking figure.
“Yanyan!”Tian Shi came running up behind them, calling out cheerfully.
Beside her, Senior Zhang Qian raised a hand, lips parting slightly as though she wanted to speak, but in the end, she held back.
Chu Qiyan turned toward the sound and gave them a wave.
“Get in,” Qin Xiao said, eyes narrowing slightly. Her voice had turned colder as she followed Chu Qiyan’s line of sight to a calm and graceful-looking Alpha—someone who had apparently been sticking close to Chu Qiyan from the start.
“…Wait…” Chu Qiyan ran over to them. “Thanks again. I’ll treat you guys to lunch next time.”
“……” Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was just enough for Qin Xiao to hear.
“Come along,” Qin Xiao said with a glance, her tone even more detached than before.
“President Qin, this is Zhang Qian from the IT department, a former intern,” her assistant quickly explained.
“She’s with our company? ”Qin Xiao arched a brow, visibly surprised.
Although Jingyan University had a partnership with Qinlang Group—selecting outstanding students each year for internships and potential full-time positions—she hadn’t expected to run into someone from her own company like this.
“Yes, President Qin.” Now that her identity was revealed, Zhang Qian had no choice but to greet her respectfully. She’d assumed no one would recognize her since her department was quite niche, and she typically avoided socializing or drawing attention to herself.
“Alright. Come along, then.” Before she even finished speaking, Qin Xiao added, “You two take the car behind us.”
“……”
Chu Qiyan glanced between them, momentarily unsure of the situation. But she still got into the car and sat beside Qin Xiao.
After everything that had happened, Chu Qiyan found herself at a loss for words.
She hadn’t spent much time with Qin Xiao, but in their short encounters, this powerful, cold, and distant woman had always treated her well—always helped her.
And the more she thought about it, the more her favorability toward Qin Xiao skyrocketed. That moment of heart-thudding attraction earlier—was it real, or just her imagination?
“Qin Xiao… would you ever change your fiancée? ”Emboldened by Qin Xiao’s patience and indulgence, Chu Qiyan mustered the courage to ask.
“Hm? If you don’t want to change, then I won’t,” Qin Xiao replied after a pause.
She couldn’t perceive pheromones, and in her 20-some years of life, she’d never liked an Omega. She didn’t think she ever would. Emotions just weren’t something she deeply invested in.
To her, whether it was a fiancée or a wife—one person or another—it didn’t make a difference.
If Chu Qiyan ever fell for someone else, she’d let her go. All that mattered was ensuring her safety and happiness.
Chu Qiyan’s almond-shaped eyes widened in disbelief. She had the right to choose? Qin Xiao was actually offering her the power to decide!?
Her heart pounded wildly. Bl00d rushed faster through her veins, her limbs beginning to tingle. In all her years with the Chu family, she’d never had any say in her own life—only the obligation to obey.
She’d never had the power or position to make choices, only the constant struggle to protect the little space she’d carved out for herself.
But now, this woman in front of her… was saying she’d give her that power. That she could choose—clearly and easily.
It moved something deep within her.
The world she had fought so hard to escape from, this woman said she could break it open—with just a few words and the gentlest tone.
Chu Qiyan could hardly believe it. She lowered her gaze and quietly pondered.
Meanwhile, Shang Niannian had just arrived at the Qinlang Group headquarters, waiting anxiously in the lobby for Qin Xiao to return.
