After Getting Pregnant, I Fought for a Divorce from My Alpha - Chapter 18
An Xiangdi’s mind was completely occupied by the words “morning sickness.” He barely touched his food during the meal. He had no appetite; in fact, just looking at the golden fried egg made him nauseous.
“What’s wrong?” Shen Xiao noticed something was off. “Was it the fried noodles from yesterday? Did it upset your stomach?”
“No, just tired. Not hungry,” An Xiangdi mumbled, his hair messy, eyes still drowsy, truly looking like someone who hadn’t woken up yet.
Shen Xiao reached out and wiped a grain of rice from the corner of his mouth. “Then go sleep a bit more. I’ll leave after you fall asleep.”
“Mm.” Shen Xiao had returned from overseas on short notice yesterday. Contrary to what Cheng Youyi claimed, his work hadn’t been fully handled. Hua Jiang had already called several times about it.
An Xiangdi guessed that Hua Jiang had probably cursed him out in every possible way by now.
Back in bed, An Xiangdi had been trying to figure out how to fake being asleep—but to his surprise, he actually fell asleep for real in just a few moments.
He was jolted awake by a call from Dr. Qiao, who urgently asked over the phone why he hadn’t arrived yet.
Glancing at the time, An Xiangdi realized it was already four in the afternoon.
He drove himself to the Omega Rehabilitation Center, pulled his cap low, and took the elevator up to Dr. Qiao’s office.
The moment Dr. Qiao saw him, he froze in disbelief and leaned in.
Instinctively, An Xiangdi stepped back. The Alpha’s sudden closeness made him uncomfortable. “Dr. Qiao?”
“Ah… sorry,” Dr. Qiao sniffed carefully, but the scent he thought he caught earlier had vanished. “Let’s do a bl00d test first and then a B-scan.”
“Okay.” Anxiety swirled in An Xiangdi’s chest.
The doctor performing the B-scan was an Omega—short in stature but firm-handed.
“Don’t be nervous.” The Omega doctor’s technique was practiced and steady. The instrument swept over An Xiangdi’s abdomen and finally stopped near the reproductive cavity.
Then, the doctor casually said, “Congratulations, you’re pregnant. However, your reproductive cavity is underdeveloped, so conception was already unlikely. Now that you’re pregnant, it’s quite rare. You need to be very careful during your pregnancy.”
An Xiangdi turned his head in surprise, trying to see the screen, but the angle made it hard to view clearly.
Still dazed, he got dressed and returned to Dr. Qiao’s office, clutching his phone tightly, unsure whether to tell Shen Xiao.
Dr. Qiao entered holding the report, the joyful expression on his face confirming the result.
“Two pieces of good news. Which one do you want to hear first?” Dr. Qiao was so excited he couldn’t stop shaking the report in his hand.
“…You said both were good news,” An Xiangdi reminded him.
Realizing it, Dr. Qiao nodded quickly. “Right, right. First of all, congratulations—you’re pregnant. I assume you already found out during the B-scan.”
“Mm.”
“The second good news is that your pheromones are returning to normal levels.”
“What… does that mean?” An Xiangdi froze.
“It means that over the next little while, your pheromones will intermittently release without warning. Other Alphas and Omegas will start smelling them, and you’ll slowly begin to sense theirs too,” Dr. Qiao explained. “Simply put, soon you’ll return to being a normal Omega.”
“How soon is ‘soon’?” Already anxious from the pregnancy, the idea of experiencing unfamiliar scent triggers made him even more nervous.
“Uncertain. But when you first arrived today, I think I caught a faint whiff of your scent—it was a very light sweetness,” Dr. Qiao recalled. “But I couldn’t identify it. Maybe ask your Alpha.”
An Xiangdi fell silent. Shen Xiao always said he smelled “sweet,” as if he were syrup or something.
“I’m currently working on a report about pheromone abnormalities, and your case is unique. Of course, I’ll keep your identity confidential and only analyze the symptoms. But if you’re uncomfortable, I can use a different case as reference.”
“There are other cases?” An Xiangdi felt less alone hearing that.
“There was one just a few days ago, but early analysis suggests it was caused by psychological issues. Your condition is different,” Dr. Qiao explained. “Psychological causes are easier to treat. With your congenital abnormality, for years I could only suggest prolonged time with a high-compatibility Alpha.”
“I see…” An Xiangdi knew he was a rare case. “Thank you for your help.”
“As for the pregnancy—please be extremely cautious. I’ve told you before: due to your abnormal pheromones and underdeveloped cavity, your chances of getting pregnant were already low. Now that you are, you absolutely must not miscarry. If you do, the chances of future infertility are extremely high.”
“I understand.” Though he said so, An Xiangdi still hadn’t decided whether to tell Shen Xiao.
Back in the car, An Xiangdi stared at the sunset-streaked sky. A notification chimed in his ear.
It was a text from Shen Xiao.
– Xiao Xiao: I’ve arrived at the hotel.
– Xiao Xiao: image.jpg
– Xiao Xiao: I’ll be busy for a week before I can come back.
An Xiangdi leaned against the steering wheel, thinking for a moment, then replied with: “Got it.”
He decided not to tell Shen Xiao for now.
Otherwise, Shen Xiao might drag him back to his hometown and settle him there, abandoning work completely. That kind of life was something An Xiangdi had never imagined. He still had many goals to achieve in the entertainment industry.
Back home, An Xiangdi asked Wei Yi for help in blurring out unrelated people from the video involving Qiu Cheng and sent it to the film association director.
– Top Alpha: I never realized you were secretly this sly.
– Top Alpha: thumbs up.jpg
– Xiangdi: I call it clever.
– Top Alpha: Sure, sure—clever!
– Xiangdi: I’m logging off.
– Top Alpha: Huh? Not chatting anymore?
An Xiangdi didn’t reply and tossed the phone aside.
Although he was a rookie at pregnancy and didn’t know much, he understood the basics. Things like radiation were bad for pregnant people. So was staying up late. He needed a regular routine and moderate exercise.
For now, the most he could do was stay away from electronics and radiation.
But An Xiangdi had underestimated things. The next morning, before dawn, he was again woken up by intense nausea and dry heaving over the sink.
Opening the fridge, the mere smell of food made him sick before he even started preparing anything.
His morning sickness was severe. He couldn’t eat or even smell most things, managing only a little bland congee.
Since the song was to be released Sunday, on Saturday afternoon An Xiangdi bundled himself up tightly and had Xiao Gu take him to the company.
The moment he walked in, he noticed something strange. Everyone’s eyes were on him, but no one dared meet his gaze. They all quickly looked away.
He remembered what Dr. Qiao had said and grew anxious—had they smelled his pheromones?
Then Xiao Gu said, “Mr. An, there’s something I’m not sure if I should tell you…”
“You’re already telling me.” An Xiangdi glanced at him and stepped into the elevator.
“I heard… Mr. Li’s resigning. Says he’s going back to his hometown to get married and have kids,” Xiao Gu chuckled toward the end. “Sounds a bit far-fetched, right?”
An Xiangdi recalled Shen Xiao confronting Li Guan and Zhao Zeyun in the stairwell a few days ago. If Li Guan was really resigning, that was a good thing. The only question now was—who would take over as his manager?
Ding—the elevator doors opened, and a distracted An Xiangdi found himself face to face with Li Guan carrying a cardboard box.
Li Guan opened his mouth, then quickly turned and fled into the stairwell, vanishing into the shadows.
“…He’s really going home to get married and have kids?” Xiao Gu asked dumbfounded.
An Xiangdi laughed a little. “You want to go back and get married too?”
“No no no! I’m still young!” Xiao Gu scratched the back of his head, face turning red.
When they walked into the song production room, it was packed. Familiar music teachers, a few from the PR department, and several unfamiliar faces were seated.
“He’s here, he’s here.” The lead music producer stood up.
“Good afternoon.” An Xiangdi had barely finished his greeting when a man of similar height stood in front of him.
The man wore black-rimmed glasses, had delicate features, and looked like a college student—but the deep, coarse voice left a strong impression. “An Xiangdi, I’m Yao Honglang, a Beta and your new agent. Nice to meet you.”
An Xiangdi’s hand, resting at his side, twitched slightly. He had heard of Yao Honglang—he was the ace manager from Yisheng Entertainment. The artists under his care were all A-list stars.
Why was Yao Honglang here?
As if reading his confusion, a lawyer beside Yao Honglang spread out a document. “Mr. An, the shareholders of Royal Entertainment have been changed from Zhao Qiangjun and others to Yisheng Entertainment Co., Ltd. Royal Entertainment has also been officially renamed Yisheng Film & Entertainment Co., Ltd. In short, all contracted artists of Royal Entertainment are now under Yisheng Entertainment.”
“The chairman personally assigned me to manage you.” Yao Honglang raised his hand. “Looking forward to working with you?”
An Xiangdi felt dazed. Zhao Qiangjun must be Zhao Zeyun’s father. But Yisheng Entertainment was one of the top agencies in the country. Buying a company worth barely a billion yuan seemed like a thankless task.
And… why list the new shareholders to him?
“An Xiangdi, not going to shake my hand?” Yao Honglang looked at the hand he’d been holding out.
An Xiangdi snapped out of it. “Looking forward to working with you.”
Outside the door, Cheng Youyi—with his flamboyant red hair—was on the phone with Shen Xiao while heading toward the elevator.
“All set?” Shen Xiao’s voice sounded exhausted. He’d likely had almost no sleep while working nonstop.
“All set. But your ‘wife’ didn’t seem convinced.”
“Expected.” Shen Xiao rubbed his brow. “Have Yao Honglang take good care of him. Lighten the schedule.”
“Got it, got it.”
