After Getting Pregnant, I Fought for a Divorce from My Alpha - Chapter 7
“I’m leaving now, thanks for letting me crash your meal,” Wei Yi said with a cheeky grin. His boyish face made it impossible to get mad at him.
“If you know that, then get lost already,” An Xiangdi picked up the corn from the basin again.
Wei Yi quickly backed up to the door. “I’ll come by next time, see ya!”
With a loud bang, the door shut. An Xiangdi muttered, “If all Alphas in the world were like him, we’d be doomed.”
“What about someone like me?” Shen Xiao asked, lips curved in a teasing smile.
An Xiangdi froze at the question. After a pause, he turned his flushed face away and mumbled, “Nonsense. There’s no one else like you.”
Shen Xiao’s smile widened. He took the damp corn from his hands. “Let’s boil some sweet soup and bring it back to the set tonight.”
Wei Yi, full and satisfied, walked home swinging his arms and bouncing his legs happily. If fans saw him like this, they might think he was begging for a smack.
However, his smile vanished the moment his phone rang.
“Hey Wei Yi, I heard you agreed to join Survival? That’s awesome! I always thought this variety show would let fans see a whole new side of you. You rejected it last time, so I didn’t push again, but now that you’ve changed your mind—that’s fantastic!” Wei Yi’s agent was just as chatty as he was, rambling on without pause.
Wei Yi froze. Survival was the wilderness survival show he’d just talked about with An Xiangdi. “What? No—I turned that down!”
There was no way he was going to live with bugs for two weeks!
“Don’t mess around. The director already sent the e-contract to your email. If everything looks fine, send it back right away. You know what happens if you bail.” His agent’s tone suddenly turned serious. The director of Survival was a big name in the industry, and the whole production team was top-notch—known for producing nothing but hit shows.
Wei Yi’s hands trembled. If the agreement had really gone through, he definitely couldn’t back out. Otherwise, he could kiss his variety show career goodbye.
“I—I got it. I’ll go. Okay? Just make sure to collect my body when it’s over.” Wei Yi wanted to cry. How did he end up agreeing to a show he’d already turned down just because he had dinner?
…
Over the following days, filming in Director Cao Xuan’s production went smoothly. An Xiangdi had finished all his scenes in the research lab, and the entire crew relocated back to the main film base.
An Xiangdi finally got a bit of downtime. Though he still had a few scenes each day, his workload was much lighter than the other leads.
Since he had an appointment at the Omega Recovery Center Saturday evening, he privately spoke to Director Cao ahead of time. The director didn’t ask much and agreed readily—An Xiangdi had no scenes scheduled that afternoon anyway.
“Cut!”
“That was great.” Director Cao had praised the two leads so many times by now. He was more convinced than ever that casting them had been the right choice—both were skilled, cooperative, and radiated on-screen chemistry.
At lunch, An Xiangdi pulled Shen Xiao aside: “I need to head back to Zongming this afternoon—something came up at the agency. No need to wait for me for dinner.”
“…Alright.” Shen Xiao nodded slowly.
Though he was lying, An Xiangdi kept his expression calm. After giving Director Cao a heads-up, he left the film base alone.
When the plane landed in Zongming City, it was already 4 p.m. An Xiangdi got into the car he’d pre-booked and stared blankly out the window at the steady drizzle.
“It’s been raining a lot lately.” The driver, a Beta, tried to strike up a conversation. Seeing the destination was a nameless place in the outskirts—practically the opposite side of the city from the airport—he figured he might as well chat.
“Yeah,” An Xiangdi replied after a long pause.
It rained a lot in Zongming during spring. Even though it was just light drizzle, it could still be irritating when it dragged on.
“Where are you headed? The GPS doesn’t show any name.”
“…A private clinic,” An Xiangdi murmured.
“Are you sick?” the driver asked, his voice rising in concern, but An Xiangdi didn’t respond again. Realizing he was being nosy, the driver gave up and put on his headphones.
The rain stirred up old memories in An Xiangdi’s mind.
At birth, everyone was first classified as male or female. When they reached adulthood at eighteen, they would enter their secondary gender differentiation period. About 80% of people became Betas—unable to release or detect pheromones. The remaining 20% became either Alphas or Omegas, who had active pheromones.
Alphas and Omegas could form a bond by biting each other’s scent glands or forming a knot. If their pheromones matched well, they could easily become lifelong partners.
Alphas were typically strong and powerful, enjoying higher social status and finding life easier due to their biological advantages. Omegas, on the other hand, were often perceived as weak and sensitive. No matter how capable they were, many professions outright refused to hire them.
Almost everyone speculated what secondary gender they might differentiate into before turning eighteen. An Xiangdi was no different.
Especially after Shen Xiao—his childhood companion—differentiated into a strong Alpha, An Xiangdi became even more eager for his own differentiation.
But his came late—ridiculously late. It didn’t happen until he was twenty-one.
It was raining that day too, with thunder cracking in the sky and rain slamming against the windows. Curled up in bed, wracked with pain, he gritted his teeth through the entire ordeal without telling anyone.
After enduring twelve straight hours, An Xiangdi realized he might be an Omega—because when he was around Shen Xiao, he could smell his brandy-scented pheromones and felt his heart flutter.
But unlike other Omegas, he couldn’t smell anyone else’s pheromones. And his own pheromones seemed to have no scent at all.
Though Shen Xiao often said they smelled sweet.
“Sir, we’re here.” The driver brought him out of his thoughts. An Xiangdi had been sitting in the back motionless.
“…Thanks.” He paid and stepped out of the car.
After realizing something was wrong with his body, An Xiangdi had forced himself to calm down and found this private recovery center that specialized in Omega treatment.
Officially, the center offered de-bonding services for Omegas. It was expensive but very discreet. Occasionally, they took on special cases—like his.
He scanned the QR code at the self-service kiosk and navigated past the front lobby with practiced ease, taking a rarely-used private elevator for special patients to the fifth floor.
A pretty Beta nurse greeted him. “Hello, please come this way.”
She led him to the consultation room at the end of the hall, respectfully knocking on the door. “Dr. Qiao, your patient has arrived.”
“Come in.”
“Have a seat.” Dr. Qiao, a man nearing forty, was an Alpha with a stellar reputation in the ABO medical field. He’d once worked at a major public hospital but had since opened his own clinic.
An Xiangdi had been here many times before, but he was still nervous. He took off his mask and hat, exhaled, and waited for Dr. Qiao to speak.
“I still think it’d be best if you brought your Alpha with you,” Dr. Qiao said with a smile. It wasn’t the first time he’d made the suggestion.
An Xiangdi pressed his lips together and didn’t answer.
Shen Xiao knew he was an Omega, but not about the more unusual parts of his condition.
“Alright, alright. I won’t nag,” Dr. Qiao said jokingly. “How’ve you been feeling lately?”
“…I still can’t smell anyone else, but the discomfort isn’t as bad as before.” An Xiangdi had a psychological aversion to all Alphas except Shen Xiao. Even without detecting their pheromones, his body would instinctively react.
Back when it was at its worst, he couldn’t even be near other Alphas without vomiting. He still remembered throwing up the first time he came to see Dr. Qiao. Thankfully, he could now interact with others normally—unless the pheromone concentration was too high.
“That’s progress.” Dr. Qiao jotted down notes. “Like I said before, your ability to detect your Alpha’s pheromones is likely due to your high compatibility—maybe over 90%, possibly even 100%. You should spend more time with him.”
“I know.”
“Go get a bl00d test first. We can’t conclude much just by talking. The test results will show us the state of your pheromones.” Dr. Qiao pressed a button on his desk.
An Xiangdi was taken to get two vials of bl00d drawn and then quietly waited in the office for the report.
Once the needle stopped bleeding, he checked his phone. Shen Xiao had messaged him half an hour ago.
– Xiao Xiao: What time are you coming back tonight?
– Xiao Xiao: Should I pick you up from the airport?
An Xiangdi hesitated, then replied:
– Di Zi: It’ll be too late. Don’t you have an early morning shoot tomorrow?
– Di Zi: Get some rest.
– Xiao Xiao: It’s fine.
An Xiangdi knew that if he refused again, Shen Xiao might just fly over to Zongming on the spot. He had no choice but to agree.
– Di Zi: If the flight’s on time, I should land around midnight.
– Xiao Xiao: Okay, see you tonight.
– Di Zi: See you tonight.
“What’s got you smiling?” Dr. Qiao returned with the report and noticed An Xiangdi looking unusually cheerful. He was always so serious during appointments.
“Ah… nothing.” An Xiangdi tucked away his phone.
Dr. Qiao guessed it had to do with his Alpha. “Your Alpha’s pheromones are a big help for you. Simply put—he’s indispensable.”
“…How’s the report?” An Xiangdi didn’t want to talk about it. He loved Shen Xiao, even if he didn’t say it aloud. But whenever Dr. Qiao brought it up, it made their relationship sound artificial.
Dr. Qiao shrugged. “Your results look good. You’re doing much better than six months ago—half your markers are within normal range.”
“What about… my pheromones?” An Xiangdi asked, eyes widening.
“Your condition of not being able to smell or be smelled by others hasn’t changed. But…” Dr. Qiao pointed to several data points on the report. “These markers reflect pheromone scent—and yours are all normal.”
“What… does that mean?” An Xiangdi didn’t understand.
“I’ve always wondered—since you can smell that Alpha’s pheromones, it’s likely he can smell yours too. You two might have a high compatibility, possibly even a chosen bond. You chose him, so your body subconsciously releases your scent to him.”
An Xiangdi froze.
“Of course, that’s just a hypothesis,” Dr. Qiao added. “It could also be that your pheromone scent is so faint it’s almost undetectable—like water. Only someone highly compatible with you can perceive it.”
