After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Yu Heyi received a job notification on Monday morning. The caller was the cafeteria manager, who politely greeted her and asked if she was free to start work tomorrow.
Why so polite? Because the cafeteria at Xijing High School was contracted by her mother.
Speaking of this, we have to mention the relationship between Yu Heyi’s family and Xijing High School. The previous principal of Xijing High School was Yu Heyi’s grandfather, Du Ruo’s father.
Old Yu graduated from Xijing High School, and so did Du Ruo.
So did Yu Heyi.
Returning to Xijing High School after ten years, Yu Heyi noticed some changes. For example, the plastic track was new, the teaching building was renovated, and the cafeteria had expanded. It used to have only two floors, but now it had three.
The first floor was a regular cafeteria, the second floor was outsourced with various specialty snacks, and the third floor had become a leisure area.
The manager, surnamed Li, was a warm and friendly female beta in her forties. Yu Heyi affectionately called her Sister Li. Sister Li was talkative and gave Yu Heyi a tour of the entire cafeteria. When she smiled, the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes were noticeable. Looking at Sister Li’s aged face, Yu Heyi thought this was how someone her mommy’s age should look, unlike her mommy, who was so well-maintained she looked only in her thirties, standing next to Yu Heyi like a sister.
Yu Heyi followed Sister Li, listening to her explanations, but soon her mind started to wander. A former race car driver now working as a cook in a high school cafeteria, possibly even serving food like an auntie when it got busy—she still couldn’t quite accept it. But then she thought, this was practically her family’s business, so she’d just treat it as overseeing things.
“Xiao Yu, got it?”
Lost in her thoughts, Yu Heyi clearly hadn’t heard what Sister Li said, but when she heard her name, she instinctively nodded. “Yeah, got it.”
Sister Li kept walking, and Yu Heyi followed, wondering what she was supposed to have remembered.
Before she could figure it out, Sister Li led her to the kitchen.
“Start chopping vegetables.”
“Huh?”
Yu Heyi blinked. So… her job was chopping vegetables?
“Got it.”
The kitchen was bustling, and after assigning her task, Sister Li went off to work. Yu Heyi held a potato, feeling a bit at a loss.
Truth be told, this was Yu Heyi’s first time working in such a crowded environment. Her family wasn’t exactly rich, but growing up, Yu Heyi never lacked for anything and always got what she wanted.
After getting her driver’s license, Yu Heyi thought she’d race forever, maybe open a club when she got older. She never imagined a car accident would lead her to work in a place like this.
Yu Heyi glanced at her right leg. It wasn’t that bad.
She could walk and run just fine, but… she knew she couldn’t handle long races anymore. It wasn’t that she couldn’t drive—it was that there was no point. Her leg didn’t affect daily life, but long races were too much. Even if she finished, she wouldn’t get good results.
“Hiss…” Lost in her thoughts, Yu Heyi accidentally cut her hand. She went to the sink to rinse it and shook off the water.
At that moment, a woman who looked only a few years older handed her a bandage.
“Here.”
Yu Heyi smiled at her. “Thank you.”
Others didn’t know her background and gave her odd looks, wondering why a young, decent-looking female alpha was working in the school cafeteria.
Most cafeteria workers were older, so someone as young as her was rare. Besides the woman who gave her the bandage, who was an alpha, most others were betas.
It wasn’t that alphas were superior, but with their strength, they didn’t need to do this kind of work. Yu Heyi glanced at the female alpha. From her clothes, it was clear her family wasn’t well-off.
So it made sense that a strong but poor alpha, with no other skills, might rely on physical labor. But working in a school cafeteria where the average age was over forty?
In others’ eyes, Yu Heyi was the same.
Honestly, Yu Heyi herself felt it was unnecessary. She didn’t know why her mommy wanted her to work here. Was she really just overseeing things?
That didn’t seem right either. Her mommy didn’t seem to care much about the cafeteria. If Yu Heyi hadn’t come to work here, she’d have forgotten Du Ruo even had this cafeteria.
Oh, right—this was an ancestral cafeteria, originally belonging to her grandfather.
Yu Heyi’s eyes widened in shock. Was this about inheriting the family business?
Inheriting… a cafeteria?
That was just ridiculous, wasn’t it?
“Hey! Vegetable chopper!”
“Huh? Oh!” Yu Heyi quickly put down the vegetable and turned to the person calling her. It was a chef, an older male alpha.
He was tall and burly, probably about 1.9 meters, with a face full of rough features, looking somewhat fierce.
“Speed up your hands.”
So, he was complaining she was slow. Well… she couldn’t help it. She wasn’t incapable of chopping—she’d just never done it in such large quantities.
Unknowingly, an hour had passed, and Yu Heyi had only finished a little over half. It was already past 10 a.m., with just an hour until lunchtime.
So Yu Heyi buried herself in work, grumbling about Du Ruo as she chopped. She was supposed to be a cook, but here she was, chopping vegetables.
Still, there wasn’t much of a gap in expectations. In this cafeteria, almost everyone had multiple roles.
For example, the female alpha she’d spoken to earlier was chopping vegetables when Yu Heyi arrived but was now making pastries.
Yu Heyi finally finished her task on time, but that wasn’t the end. She had to assist the fierce alpha chef next.
After the dishes were prepared, Yu Heyi was sent to serve food.
The school cafeteria’s food was actually pretty good—ten dishes, a mix of meat and vegetables, two soups, and various small pastries.
After a busy morning, Yu Heyi was starving. As she served food, she couldn’t help but salivate at the dishes.
But she could only watch. Staff had to wait until everyone else ate before they could have leftovers.
Eating leftovers…
Yu Heyi wasn’t that delicate, so she didn’t mind too much. She just wanted to finish work and eat.
The cafeteria work wasn’t too tiring. They only served lunch, so the morning was busy, but after 2 or 3 p.m., there wasn’t much to do. By 4 p.m., she could go home.
As Yu Heyi worked diligently, she suddenly smelled peach oolong tea. The peach was strong, and the oolong tea was barely noticeable.
But it was her pheromone—she’d know it even if it was faint.
Yu Heyi took the tray from the person in front of her, about to ask what dish they wanted, when something felt off. Why was she smelling her own pheromone?
No, the point was the peach scent!
She looked up and met Chi Ruixi’s bright, round eyes, her gaze shifting to the tear mole at the corner of Chi Ruixi’s eye.
Yu Heyi inwardly sighed—Chi Ruixi’s eyes were so beautiful, and so was her tear mole.
While Yu Heyi was dazed, Chi Ruixi smiled and pointed at the food. “Can you serve now?”
Yu Heyi blinked, her face flushing as she stammered, “Y-Yeah, which dish do you want?”
Chi Ruixi didn’t eat much—just two dishes and a small portion of rice.
As Chi Ruixi walked away, Yu Heyi watched her back and finally snapped out of it…
Chi Ruixi was dressed in a professional outfit: a blazer, an A-line skirt, and black stockings that hugged her graceful legs.
“Little one, you’re smitten?” An auntie serving food beside her teased. Yu Heyi’s face reddened, and she glared at the auntie in embarrassment.
“Serve the next person.”
She swallowed her retort and continued working, a bit frustrated.
After the lunch rush, when things quieted down, the auntie came over to chat with Yu Heyi.
“That Teacher Chi is one of the most beautiful teachers at Xijing High School.”
So she was a teacher. But what did “one of the most beautiful” mean? If she was the most beautiful, just say so—why “one of”?
The auntie explained right away. “It’s ‘one of’ because there’s another female alpha teacher, a PE teacher, who’s said to be pursuing Teacher Chi.”
At that, Yu Heyi instinctively tightened her grip on the serving spoon.
Pursuing Chi Ruixi?
For some reason, Yu Heyi felt a pang of discomfort, though it passed quickly.
Then she thought, no wonder Chi Ruixi didn’t need her—plenty of people were pursuing her.
Who would’ve thought that the plain Chi Ruixi from their school days would now be one of the most beautiful teachers, and so popular?
Ignoring the slight sourness in her heart, Yu Heyi kept working.
Leaving the cafeteria meant passing the sports field. With nothing to do after work, Yu Heyi walked slowly. She strolled to the edge of the track, thinking about how the school had changed in ten years, when two figures on the field caught her eye.
One was Chi Ruixi. The other… probably the PE teacher the auntie mentioned. Yu Heyi was too far to see the female alpha’s face clearly, but she looked tall—almost 1.8 meters, maybe.
Chi Ruixi was tall for an omega, about half a head shorter than Yu Heyi, probably around 168 cm. But next to this female alpha, she only reached her chin. They looked somewhat compatible.
But that thought lasted only a moment. Then Yu Heyi saw Chi Ruixi give the woman a sweet smile.
Suddenly, the slight sourness from lunch took root and sprouted in her heart, making Yu Heyi’s teeth ache.
She took a few steps forward and shouted, “Chi Ruixi!”
She hadn’t thought it through, but when Chi Ruixi turned and their eyes met, Yu Heyi suddenly felt a wave of panic.
