After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
When Chi Ruixi saw the hint of anger in Yu Heyi’s eyes, her first instinct was to pull her arm away from her niece’s grasp.
But then she thought, what right did Yu Heyi have to be angry about what she did?
It was… Yu Heyi who insisted on pushing her away.
Thinking back to that day, Chi Ruixi was still furious. One moment, she thought Yu Heyi was about to do something to her, and the next, Yu Heyi lowered her head, refusing to even look at her.
She’d been mortified.
First, Yu Heyi said those irresponsible things, and then she acted that way toward her.
Though Chi Ruixi couldn’t deny she’d deliberately worn pajamas that night. She could’ve worn her usual clothes, but she wanted to see Yu Heyi’s reaction to her in pajamas.
And she got a reaction, but Yu Heyi’s final behavior infuriated her.
She decided to ignore Yu Heyi.
So why should she pull her arm away? Let Yu Heyi misunderstand.
“Auntie, what’s wrong?”
Chi Ying didn’t know what was going on, but she noticed her aunt’s expression wasn’t right. She struggled a bit but then clung tightly to her hand.
She sensed something was off.
“Nothing.” Chi Ruixi smiled, patted her niece’s arm, and kept walking.
She had no intention of talking to Yu Heyi. Let that fool stew in her anger.
Angry? Yes, Yu Heyi was definitely angry.
That Zheng Qin had finally stopped pestering Chi Ruixi, and now she’d found an even younger puppy.
And a student, no less.
Was Chi Ruixi that shameless?
“Teacher Chi, off work?” Li Li, who knew the school’s famous beauty teacher, smiled and greeted Chi Ruixi.
Chi Ruixi gave her a polite smile, then pulled Chi Ying into her car.
Completely ignoring Yu Heyi.
It wasn’t that Chi Ruixi didn’t want to acknowledge Yu Heyi, but since Yu Heyi didn’t speak, she wasn’t going to either.
Yu Heyi’s hand, which had been pushing Li Li, tightened into a grip on her clothes. She gritted her teeth, watching Chi Ruixi hold the puppy’s hand, get into the car, and drive off without looking back.
“Little Yu… are we going?”
Even someone as oblivious as Li Li could sense the tension between Yu Heyi and Chi Ruixi. Yu Heyi had been pushing her playfully, but after seeing Chi Ruixi, she gripped harder, even clutching her clothes after Chi Ruixi left.
Her pheromones even leaked out, tinged with anger…
“Let’s go, why wouldn’t we?” Yu Heyi’s anger made her toothache flare up again. She was mad at Chi Ruixi, mad at that dentist.
A few days ago, she’d wanted to get her tooth pulled, but the dentist said it could only be extracted once it was fully healed, not now.
If it’s healed, why would she need it pulled?
She was in pain, okay? If the tooth was fully grown, would it still hurt?
Her anger made her drive much faster than usual. It wasn’t until they were some distance from the school that Yu Heyi calmed down a bit and noticed Li Li beside her.
“Sorry, I was driving too fast.”
Yu Heyi was a bit embarrassed and eased off the gas, slowing to 60 kilometers per hour.
But Li Li didn’t think the speed was too much. She was just puzzled why Yu Heyi seemed like a different person after seeing Teacher Chi.
Before, Yu Heyi seemed bright and easygoing, with a friendly personality.
But just now, Li Li had felt the dominance of Yu Heyi’s pheromones.
Though Alphas no longer had strict hierarchical divisions, high-quality Alphas could still be distinguished by their pheromones, so some level of ranking persisted among them.
With ABO equality, even top-tier Alphas only showed clear differences when marking Omegas or in conflicts with other Alphas.
Unlike a century ago, when a top-tier Alpha from the slums would’ve been revered and given resources ordinary Alphas could only dream of. Now, even a top-tier Alpha was just a slum Alpha.
Yu Heyi probably hadn’t noticed that she’d unintentionally released pheromones when she saw Chi Ruixi. At first, they were light and cheerful, so Li Li didn’t feel suppressed. But after Chi Ruixi left, Yu Heyi’s pheromones turned aggressive, and Li Li realized Yu Heyi’s rank was much higher than hers.
More importantly, she sensed Yu Heyi was sulking…
Lost in thought, Li Li didn’t respond until Yu Heyi asked again. She smiled and said, “It’s fine.”
Though she said it was fine, Yu Heyi kept the car at around 60 kph and asked, “Where are we eating?”
Li Li hesitated, then said, “If you don’t mind, there’s a great street food stall near my place.”
Her tone was cautious, but Yu Heyi didn’t overthink it and casually replied, “I’m not picky. As long as it tastes good.”
“That’s great.”
Li Li’s voice brightened, surprising Yu Heyi. She glanced at Li Li, who seemed a bit embarrassed for being too forward and gave a shy smile.
“I thought… you’d look down on street food stalls.”
“Why? Street food is delicious.”
Yu Heyi was a foodie, and so was Jiang Qi. They used to hit up street food stalls all the time.
Thinking of this, Yu Heyi felt both hungry and craving. It had been months since she’d eaten at a stall.
Not wanting to dwell on why Li Li thought that, she said eagerly, “Where’s the place? Quick, set the GPS.”
Li Li was caught off guard by Yu Heyi’s mood swing.
They hadn’t known each other long, so she wasn’t familiar with Yu Heyi’s personality. She’d thought Yu Heyi was still in a bad mood, but now… she was excited about a food stall.
Yu Heyi was carefree, as Lady Du had said—great as a friend but likely to drive a girlfriend crazy.
If her girlfriend was upset, Yu Heyi might suggest going to eat or play something the next second.
But since Li Li was just a friend, Yu Heyi’s enthusiasm lifted her mood too.
She pulled out her phone to set the GPS, and they headed straight for the food stall.
Meanwhile, Chi Ruixi took Chi Ying back to the Chi family home.
The Chi family’s villa was in the suburbs of Xijing City. When Chi Ruixi drove to the gate, the guard not only let her through immediately but also came out to greet her.
The Chi family was in real estate, and the entire villa complex was their development. Their villa was at the far end, a bit isolated from the others. It was less a villa and more a manor.
At the center was a three-story villa where Old Madam Chi lived.
Beside it were two two-story villas—one for Chi Ruixi, one for Chi Shengxi.
Chi Ying… lived in Chi Ruixi’s two-story villa, not with Chi Shengxi.
But she rarely stayed there. Since junior high, she’d been boarding at school, so she didn’t come home often.
Chi Ruixi parked the car and led Chi Ying toward the central house. This house was used for gatherings of the Chi family’s three generations. But calling it a gathering was a stretch, as the sprawling manor was usually occupied only by Old Madam Chi.
Chi Ruixi had lived in the school dorms before and now in an apartment.
Chi Shengxi traveled nationwide and rarely returned, so it was usually just the old lady.
As they entered, an auntie came over, handed them slippers, and took Chi Ruixi and Chi Ying’s bags, hanging them on the wall.
Thanking her, Chi Ruixi led Chi Ying toward the living room. As they neared, Chi Ying squeezed her hand. Feeling the dampness in her niece’s palm, Chi Ruixi patted her hand to reassure her.
Inside, two Alphas were discussing company matters. When they saw Chi Ruixi and Chi Ying, they glanced up briefly before resuming their conversation.
Chi Ying felt awkward, but Chi Ruixi was used to it. In a cool tone, she said, “Mom, Sister.”
Chi Ying followed her aunt’s lead and said, “Grandma, Mom.”
Old Madam Chi smiled and beckoned Chi Ying to sit.
Chi Shengxi merely nodded, saying nothing, her face expressionless.
Chi Ruixi couldn’t quite read her sister. Chi Shengxi was eight years older and had been gentle in their childhood, often playing with her. But after differentiating into an Alpha, she seemed to become a different person.
From the moment she became an Alpha, the gentle sister turned into the person she was now.
Even Old Madam Chi would smile and call her granddaughter over, but Chi Shengxi barely glanced at her own daughter, her expression unchanged.
As if the person who’d arrived wasn’t her child.
Chi Shengxi actually looked a lot like Chi Ruixi, though her eyebrows were thicker, and her constant sternness and frowning made her seem much fiercer.
But she was quite popular with Omegas.
Over the years, Chi Ruixi had seen her sister cycle through Omegas, each younger and prettier than the last. She seemed to dote on them but didn’t truly care.
Chi Ruixi never understood where the gentle sister from her childhood had gone.
Old Madam Chi favored Alphas over Omegas. Before differentiating, Chi Shengxi was predicted to be an Omega, and Chi Ruixi a Beta, so the old lady rarely looked kindly on the sisters.
She was slightly better to Chi Shengxi but harsher to Chi Ruixi, whose Omega mother had grown frail after giving birth to her and passed away a few years later.
So, in childhood, Chi Ruixi’s closest person was her sister. But as they grew up, even her sister grew distant.
Now, the only reason Chi Ruixi came home was Chi Ying.
There was no real family closeness, yet they insisted on eating at the same table. Chi Ruixi found it bitterly ironic. If Chi Ying hadn’t impressively differentiated into an Alpha, earning the favor of Old Madam Chi and her sister, there probably wouldn’t even be this so-called family dinner.
She couldn’t remember the last time she’d eaten with her mother and sister at the same table.
It was almost laughable. Differentiation predictions seemed useless for the Chi family. Predicted as a Beta, she became an Omega. Predicted as an Omega, her sister became an Alpha. And Chi Ying, predicted as a Beta, had also become an Alpha.
