After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Du Sheng’s words stunned Yu Heyi. She had only told Jiang Qi about her blind date with Chi Ruixi. How did her uncle know?
“Who told you?” she asked.
Du Sheng looked a bit puzzled by her question. “Do I need someone to tell me?”
“What do you mean?”
Yu Heyi had a faint guess in her heart. Could her uncle have arranged the blind date?
In front of Yu Heyi, Du Sheng was very casual. He loosened his tie and said, “My sister, your mom, has always been concerned about your love life. Last month when she came over, she mentioned it to me, and Xiao Chi happened to be there.”
“And then you arranged it?” Yu Heyi’s expression changed slightly.
But Du Sheng didn’t notice and continued, “Your mom liked Xiao Chi right away. She talked a lot about you to her. I thought Xiao Chi would refuse, but surprisingly, she agreed.”
Thinking about it, Du Sheng looked Yu Heyi up and down and said, “I heard Xiao Chi has a lot of suitors at school, and some people tried to set her up. I didn’t expect she’d take a liking to you.”
The more Du Sheng said, the deeper Yu Heyi’s frown became. Did Chi Ruixi know she was the blind date beforehand?
Thinking about it, Yu Heyi suddenly remembered that on the day of the blind date, Chi Ruixi didn’t seem surprised at all when she saw her.
“Uncle, I’m leaving.”
Yu Heyi stood up, but Du Sheng pulled her back, making her sit on the couch again.
“Why are you leaving? Your issue hasn’t been resolved yet.”
“What issue?”
Talking about the blind date made Du Sheng almost forget why he called Yu Heyi over. Now that he remembered, he put on a stern face and scolded her.
“What did you do? Riding a motorcycle to work early in the morning and parking it right in front of the teaching building where students and teachers could see it.”
“Oh, I woke up late today and was afraid of being late, so I rode the motorcycle.”
“Then why did you park it in front of the teaching building?”
At this, Yu Heyi shut her mouth, her expression a bit unnatural.
She couldn’t exactly tell her uncle that she panicked because Chi Ruixi wasn’t there in the morning and just wanted to check on her at school, could she?
So, she stayed silent.
Du Sheng could tell she didn’t want to talk about it. He waved his hand and said, “Fine, it’s not a big deal. But what’s with you and Zheng Qin? Why did you hit her?”
At this, Yu Heyi got angry. She rolled her eyes and said, “That guy started it. She threw a tray at me. Should I not fight back?”
After saying this, she smiled at Du Sheng and added, “Right, Uncle? You’ve always told me since I was a kid to fight back if I’m bullied.”
Du Sheng ran a hand through his hair, his expression a bit awkward because he had indeed told her that.
He even worried about her being bullied and took her to learn taekwondo for a while.
“But you shouldn’t be fighting at school.”
Du Sheng’s tone now was nothing like the uncle who used to stick up for her when she was little. Yu Heyi retorted irritably, “So I should just let myself get hit?”
“No way!” Du Sheng glared at her, then glanced at the door and lowered his voice. “Couldn’t you wait until you’re off school grounds and find a place with no one around to fight?”
Yu Heyi grinned. That was more like her uncle.
Du Sheng was ten years older than her, not yet forty. He had been a mischievous boy growing up, giving her grandfather plenty of headaches.
But Du Sheng wasn’t afraid of anything or anyone—except his own sister, Lady Du.
According to Lady Du, when her mommy and mama got married, her uncle nearly cried his eyes out and even refused to see Old Yu for a while.
It wasn’t until Yu Heyi was born that Du Sheng gradually got better. The ten-year-old boy transferred his attachment from his sister to his niece.
He doted on Yu Heyi more than anyone else.
Yu Heyi’s love for racing was also thanks to him. When Du Sheng had just graduated from college and started working at Xijing High School, he saved up for months to buy Yu Heyi a go-kart with his own money.
Originally, Du Sheng was the one who loved racing, and Yu Heyi just tagged along for fun. But in the end, she actually pursued racing as a career.
Thinking of this, Yu Heyi’s smile toward her uncle grew brighter. She smoothed his ruffled feathers and said, “I know, Uncle. Don’t cause trouble at school, right?”
Du Sheng swatted her hand off his head and scolded with a smile, “No respect for your elders.”
Then, as if remembering something, he added, “What about that incident with the student’s parent?”
Yu Heyi had almost forgotten about it. She slapped her thigh and said angrily, “I didn’t even hit that guy enough. He dared to speak rudely to Chi Ruixi.”
Then she asked Du Sheng, “Did that student withdraw?”
Du Sheng sighed, looking a bit helpless. “That student’s parents donated a lot to the school. They don’t agree to the withdrawal, so it’s still under discussion. The student hasn’t come to class for now.”
“No way? You can’t even handle this? What’s the big deal about their donation?”
Du Sheng knew his niece would react like this. He was annoyed with that family too, but he couldn’t do much about it.
“They have a good relationship with the principal.”
Then he added, “Zheng Qin seems to have some connection with the principal too.”
Yu Heyi thought, why does everyone seem to have ties with this principal?
But she felt she hadn’t done anything wrong. She couldn’t stand how that parent spoke to Chi Ruixi, and if it happened again, she’d still hit him. Same with Zheng Qin.
Du Sheng wasn’t really trying to lecture Yu Heyi. He just wanted to confirm if these incidents were true. And even if they were, it didn’t matter—he’d support whatever his niece wanted to do.
The two chatted idly for a bit, and Du Sheng brought up Yu Heyi’s retirement.
“Heyi, I know all about your retirement. But why are you listening to your mom and working in the cafeteria?”
Yu Heyi pouted and said, “Lady Du’s words—how could I not listen?”
The topic wasn’t going anywhere, and they’d said all there was to say. Yu Heyi didn’t want to stay any longer. She still had questions for Chi Ruixi.
“Alright, Uncle, I’m off. Let me know if there’s anything else.” Yu Heyi stood up and walked out. Du Sheng tried to say something, but as if she knew, Yu Heyi paused, turned back, and said, “Also, about Zheng Qin, I don’t think I did anything wrong, and I’m not apologizing.”
With that, she turned and left, not giving Du Sheng a chance to respond.
After she was gone, Du Sheng looked at her retreating figure and muttered, “Would your uncle ever let you get the short end of the stick?”
Not long after Chi Ruixi returned to her office, Chi Ying came over.
She squatted by Chi Ruixi’s side, looking at her knee with concern and saying, “Auntie, how is it? Does it hurt a lot?”
Chi Ruixi patted Chi Ying’s head and said, “It’s fine, nothing serious.”
“That jerk Zheng Qin really has a death wish, daring to push you.”
After saying this, Chi Ying’s eyes darted around, and with a gossiping look, she asked Chi Ruixi, “So, Auntie, what’s going on with you and that person?”
How could Chi Ruixi not understand what her niece meant? But she decided to play dumb.
“What person? What’s going on?”
“Don’t play dumb, Auntie.”
Chi Ruixi, still pretending, even picked up a book to read, avoiding Chi Ying’s words.
Chi Ying looked at her aunt in disbelief. Since when did her aunt become so awkward?
She snatched the book from Chi Ruixi’s hands and said, “Auntie, why are you being so weird now?”
Chi Ruixi was taken aback by her words. Was she being awkward? Had Yu Heyi rubbed off on her?
She didn’t think so. She just didn’t want to answer.
“Today, that person even came to the classroom. Why didn’t you tell me, Auntie? Afraid I’d tell everyone at home?”
At this, Chi Ruixi glanced up at Chi Ying. It wasn’t that she was afraid of Chi Ying talking. It was just… her relationship with Yu Heyi wasn’t at the stage she wanted yet.
So, she didn’t want to say anything.
But she also knew Chi Ying was stubborn and endlessly curious.
“It’s not the right time yet. I’ll tell you later, okay?”
Chi Ying didn’t get it. Why wait to tell her? She blurted out her question, “Are you two not together yet? Is she pursuing you?”
Pursuing?
Hearing the word, Chi Ruixi zoned out for a moment. She… kind of hoped Yu Heyi would pursue her. But would Yu Heyi ever do that?
Seeing her lost in thought, Chi Ying waved a hand in front of her. “Auntie?”
Chi Ruixi snapped back and said to Chi Ying, “Just assume that’s the case.”
With that, Chi Ying’s chatterbox opened again, and she rambled on beside her.
“I think she’s pretty cool. The way she protected you earlier was kind of handsome.”
“Auntie, why don’t you accept her?”
Then, as if realizing something, Chi Ying nodded and said, “Right, you should test her a bit. Auntie, I support you.”
Hearing Chi Ying’s words, Chi Ruixi’s expressionless face almost cracked. She wanted to roll her eyes. What was this kid thinking?
But Chi Ying didn’t notice and was about to say more when the office door was pushed open. Teacher Cheng and a few other teachers came back from lunch.
Then Chi Ruixi saw her niece pull off a stunt—her face instantly turned serious and respectful. She said to Chi Ruixi, “Teacher Chi, I’ll go now.”
Before Chi Ruixi could react, Chi Ying was gone.
…To this day, Chi Ruixi still didn’t understand why Chi Ying insisted on putting on two faces.
After Teacher Cheng and the others returned, they asked about Chi Ruixi’s injury. Chi Ruixi smiled and said it wasn’t a big deal. The other teachers told her to take care of herself, but Teacher Cheng stayed silent.
It wasn’t until the afternoon classes started, when it was just the two of them, that Teacher Cheng sat beside Chi Ruixi.
“I didn’t expect Xiao Zheng to be so rough. I used to think she was just a bit childish.”
Chi Ruixi nodded but didn’t say anything.
She didn’t know much about Zheng Qin and didn’t want to. But thinking about the incident with the parent and now this, her impression of Zheng Qin was pretty bad.
As they were talking about Zheng Qin, unexpectedly, Zheng Qin showed up.
She had timed it well, knowing Chi Ruixi had no classes in the afternoon and that the office would be mostly empty. When she came in and saw Teacher Cheng there too, she hesitated before approaching Chi Ruixi to apologize.
Zheng Qin felt wronged. She didn’t think she’d done anything wrong, yet she got lectured by both the principal and vice principal.
Why didn’t Yu Heyi, a cafeteria worker, have to face the same?
“Teacher Chi, I hope you forgive me.”
They all worked at the same school, so Chi Ruixi didn’t want to make things too awkward.
“It’s okay.”
But just as she spoke, Yu Heyi pushed open the door, glaring at Zheng Qin. “What do you mean, it’s okay? She hurt you like that, and you’re forgiving her?”
