After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Ever since Yu Heyi agreed to the blind date, she often saw her mom beaming with joy, looking younger and younger.
After more than half a month of recovery, Yu Heyi could finally get out of bed.
The first thing she did was visit Jiang Qi, whose arm was injured. Since navigators sit in the co-driver’s seat, Jiang Qi’s injuries were worse than hers. Yu Heyi could hobble with crutches, but Jiang Qi still had to stay in bed.
Lying in bed, Jiang Qi had lost a lot of weight from the accident. Her short hair had grown longer, softening her sharp demeanor. It suited her tangerine-scented pheromone—sweet and tangy, just right.
“Auntie said you’re going on a blind date?”
As Jiang Qi spoke, Yu Heyi was peeling an apple. Handing her a slice, Yu Heyi said, “Yeah, I’m going on a blind date.”
“Go for it. You’ve been hung up on that one tree in Jingwan for years. It’s time to find an Omega.”
“What about you? Still into alphas?”
Jiang Qi liking alphas was something Yu Heyi didn’t quite get at first. When they were kids, they used to talk about Omegas together. But after Yu Heyi returned to the country and they met again, Jiang Qi said she was into alphas now. Years passed, and she never mentioned liking any specific alpha.
It wasn’t until two years ago that Jiang Qi admitted she’d fallen for an alpha at first sight in college.
But she didn’t even know the alpha’s name, which seemed even sadder than Yu Heyi’s situation. At least Yu Heyi had confessed.
“I might have to go abroad for treatment soon.”
The sudden statement made Yu Heyi pause while peeling the apple. The mood grew heavy. Hearing this, Yu Heyi felt guilty. If it weren’t for her mistake, this wouldn’t have happened.
Jiang Qi’s injuries were worse than hers, with significant scarring. If not treated well, the scars might stay forever.
“You can get treated here too, but you know my cousin works at a hospital abroad, so the old man insists I go.”
“I know, but…”
“Come on, don’t get all sappy. I’m not gone forever. It’s just a few months.”
Jiang Qi said with a cheeky grin. She hated seeing guilt on Yu Heyi’s face. They were partners; mistakes were on both of them.
They shared the trophies, so why was the injury Yu Heyi’s fault alone?
Did the navigator not matter?
But if she asked, Yu Heyi would probably feel even worse. Jiang Qi had explained the situation back then, but Yu Heyi, for some reason, got distracted.
They’d known each other since high school, over ten years. Jiang Qi knew Yu Heyi too well—stubborn, single-minded, and always taking responsibility.
Of course, she was also very dependable.
“Alright, focus on your blind date. You better tell me how it goes, got it?”
Seeing Jiang Qi’s mischievous smile, Yu Heyi’s mood lifted. She handed her another apple slice and said with a grin, “Got it.”
A few days later, Jiang Qi’s father came to take her away. The night before she left, Yu Heyi dragged her clumsy body to Jiang Qi’s room to chat. Their retirement was basically set. As a navigator, Jiang Qi didn’t have to retire so soon. If she recovered well, she could return to racing. But without Yu Heyi as the driver, Jiang Qi felt it wasn’t worth it. She’d rather go home and take over the family business.
Yu Heyi couldn’t convince her otherwise and didn’t push.
A month after Jiang Qi left, Yu Heyi could finally ditch the crutches, though her legs were still unsteady, and she limped a bit.
The day she stopped using crutches, only she and the caregiver auntie were in the hospital room. The caregiver, a female beta around fifty, was originally hired by Du Ruo to care for Jiang Qi and look after Yu Heyi when Du Ruo wasn’t around. After Jiang Qi was discharged, the auntie focused on Yu Heyi.
Du Ruo had promised to care for Yu Heyi until she was discharged, but once the caregiver auntie had more time, Du Ruo was nowhere to be seen.
Yu Heyi was used to it. She felt more uneasy when her mommy was around. After all, Lady Du was a little princess at home. Sometimes, she got impatient caring for Yu Heyi, especially with meals. Yu Heyi wasn’t picky, but she was particular about flavors. Du Ruo’s cooking was, frankly, terrible. If Yu Heyi showed she didn’t like it, Du Ruo would complain, then flirt with Old Yu to rub it in, making Yu Heyi feel like a third wheel. She really didn’t want to eat that dog food.
Though, she’d been fed it since she was a kid.
“Xiao Yu, be careful walking without crutches,” the caregiver auntie reminded as Yu Heyi got out of bed. Yu Heyi smiled at her, saying it was fine, then shuffled along, holding the bed for support.
The auntie watched her cautiously, hands ready to catch her. Her gentle demeanor reminded Yu Heyi of her childhood. Before differentiating, she’d craved this kind of motherly love. But Du Ruo was a princess, spoiled by her grandpa and Old Yu.
She was always the one protected, never quite meeting Yu Heyi’s needs in this way. Still, she was good to her. After differentiating, Yu Heyi gradually understood. As a father, her grandpa spoiling his daughter wasn’t wrong. As an alpha, Old Yu doting on his wife wasn’t wrong either.
And Du Ruo did love her, just not always in the way Yu Heyi wanted.
Still, when the caregiver auntie looked at her with such warmth, Yu Heyi felt happy, like a childhood wish was coming true.
At first, the auntie called her Miss Yu and Du Ruo Mrs. Yu. But Yu Heyi wasn’t used to it and asked her to call her by her name or Xiao Yu. The auntie resisted at first, but after Yu Heyi insisted, she started calling her Xiao Yu.
Their bond grew closer, and sometimes Du Ruo would get a bit jealous when she saw them.
Like now—Du Ruo walked in just as Yu Heyi let go of the bed and took a few wobbly steps. Du Ruo hurried forward, but the caregiver auntie reached Yu Heyi first, steadying her with a sweet smile.
Du Ruo felt a pang of jealousy. Since Yu Heyi differentiated, she hadn’t smiled at her so sweetly, saying alphas shouldn’t act spoiled with their moms. So why could she act this way with a caregiver she’d only known for a short time?
The little princess wasn’t happy. She walked to Yu Heyi with a stern face, trying to soften her expression when thanking the caregiver auntie.
The auntie said it was nothing and left to give the mother and daughter some time.
Yu Heyi knew her mommy too well. She could tell how jealous Du Ruo was. This expression had been frequent the past half month. The unhappier Du Ruo looked, the more Yu Heyi wanted to laugh.
But she held it in, afraid her mommy would swat her.
Du Ruo could tell she was stifling a laugh and was tempted to give her a light smack. But considering Yu Heyi’s injuries, she held back and helped her sit on the bed.
“Mommy, I think I can be discharged.”
“So eager for your blind date?”
Uh…
No way, okay?
But Yu Heyi knew explaining was pointless, so she didn’t bother responding.
“Even if you’re eager, you need to recover first, right? Looking like this, you’ll definitely fail at the blind date.”
Du Ruo’s words didn’t spare Yu Heyi’s feelings at all. Though it was true, Yu Heyi thought failing at a blind date wasn’t *that* likely, was it?
Both Old Yu and Du Ruo were stunning beauties. Old Yu had the classic alpha face, sharp and striking, growing more refined with age. As for Du Ruo, she was… well, exactly what she called herself: breathtakingly gorgeous, delicate, and gentle.
Yes, just a few days ago, Du Ruo told her that her blind date was a stunning, delicate, and gentle top-tier Omega.
“When you go on the blind date, remember to dress up.”
Yu Heyi was lost in thought about her blind date when she noticed her mommy gently adjusting her hospital gown. On closer inspection, today’s little princess seemed a bit different.
She was wearing a simple black-and-white dress with minimal makeup.
“Mommy, what’s up with you today?”
“What do you mean, what’s up?” Meeting Yu Heyi’s scrutinizing gaze, Du Ruo felt a bit uneasy. She’d finally tried to act like a proper, caring mother, but it seemed… her daughter wasn’t impressed.
Irritated, she patted Yu Heyi’s shoulder and said, “Did you hear what I said? Dress up!”
“Yeah, got it,” Yu Heyi replied halfheartedly.
It’s not like her mommy could control everything when she went on the blind date, right?
As it turned out, Lady Du *did* control things up to that day.
On the day of the blind date, Yu Heyi had been out of the hospital for over two weeks. When she was discharged, Du Ruo wanted her to move back home, but Yu Heyi refused. She went to her own place instead. Her legs were mostly fine, and she really didn’t want to go back.
Her reluctance didn’t stop Lady Du from meddling in her blind date. The night before, Du Ruo sent her the time and place, reminding her again to dress up and mind her manners since the other party was a delicate, gentle Omega.
Seeing the words “delicate and gentle” again, Yu Heyi frowned and texted back, “Have you met her?”
Du Ruo replied almost instantly, “No.”
“Then how do you know she’s a top-tier Omega, delicate, gentle, and gorgeous?”
Du Ruo responded, “That’s what the matchmaker told me. Besides, every Omega is beautiful.”
…Reading that, Yu Heyi felt powerless to argue.
Her mommy wasn’t wrong. Since humans were divided into ABO genders, people had indeed become more attractive, especially Omegas. Very few weren’t beautiful—most were prettier than the last. Even if someone was average before differentiation, becoming an Omega made them stunning.
Alphas, too. After differentiation, their appearance, physique, and height changed dramatically.
Before differentiating, Yu Heyi was 160 cm, average for a regular person. After, she grew fifteen centimeters to 175 cm, which was just normal for an alpha. Unlike Jiang Qi, who was tall before and shot up to 182 cm after differentiating.
Yu Heyi didn’t reply to her mommy. Even if she explained, Du Ruo might not get it, or it wasn’t worth explaining. Du Ruo didn’t think alphas differed much beyond height. She wasn’t an alpha enthusiast.
Still, Yu Heyi preferred someone petite and cute, like Jingwan.
Thinking of Jingwan, Yu Heyi felt a wave of sadness. Lately, Jingwan hadn’t been active in their group chat. Two months ago, she messaged Yu Heyi, asking if she had time to attend her wedding.
Of course, Yu Heyi said she did. But imagining Jingwan in another alpha’s arms made her heart ache.
So, she was a bit excited about the blind date. If she could bring an Omega to the wedding, maybe it wouldn’t be so awkward. After all, her past confession still made facing Jingwan uncomfortable.
With that mindset, Yu Heyi made an effort to dress up. She wasn’t great at it—just some lipstick and a white shirt with black pants.
As she was about to leave, she ran into Du Ruo. Du Ruo got out of her car and saw Yu Heyi in her usual high ponytail, white shirt, and black pants. It wasn’t bad, but Du Ruo had seen her like this for years.
She’d come because she worried Yu Heyi would dress like this.
“This is you dressing up?”
Yu Heyi pointed to her lips and said, “I put on lipstick.”
Glancing at the time, it was 4:30 p.m. The date was at 6:00 p.m. As an alpha, she couldn’t make an Omega wait, so she needed to leave early.
“I’m going. I’ll be late.”
“It takes half an hour to get to the restaurant. Come back with me to get ready.” Du Ruo reached for her, but Yu Heyi dodged, saying seriously, “I can’t make an Omega wait.”
Du Ruo froze. Yu Heyi’s serious, rigid demeanor reminded her of Old Yu.
Taking advantage of the moment, Yu Heyi slipped past her, got in her car, and drove off.
It didn’t even take the half hour Du Ruo mentioned. Yu Heyi arrived at 5:00 p.m. sharp. She parked, entered the restaurant, ordered a glass of water, and waited.
About half an hour later, her blind date arrived. Yu Heyi was staring out the window, lost in thought, when she caught a glimpse of someone approaching. The person wore a blue satin V-neck blouse and black wide-leg pants.
She hadn’t seen their face yet, but this outfit was definitely not the “delicate” her mommy described… nor the petite, cute type she liked.
More like a mature, elegant woman, right?
The person pulled out a chair and sat across from her. Her voice wasn’t delicate or cute either—it matched her look and vibe, pure yet commanding.
“Long time no see. I’m Chi Ruixi.”
