After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Regret. That’s what she felt right now—pure regret.
Why did she agree to this blind date? If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t be stuck in this awkward mess. The Omega sitting across from her was indeed stunningly beautiful…
So beautiful that Yu Heyi didn’t even recognize her. It was Chi Ruixi, the nerd with bangs covering half her face back in the day.
So, is differentiation basically like getting a full makeover?
If Chi Ruixi hadn’t said her name, Yu Heyi wouldn’t have bothered looking closely enough to connect this woman with that old nerd.
And what’s with the “long time no see”?!
Yu Heyi’s pretty face flushed red. When she heard the name Chi Ruixi, she blurted out without thinking, “Who’d want to see you?”
In truth, she *had* been willing—even eager—before she knew her blind date was Chi Ruixi.
She had no idea what Chi Ruixi felt after she said that, but Yu Heyi… she kind of wanted to bolt.
This was mortifying, rivaling the embarrassment of her failed confession to Jingwan. Back then, it was because of Chi Ruixi that things got so awkward. So, what did she do to Chi Ruixi in a past life?
Why was this life torturing her like this? The Omega she liked was into Chi Ruixi, and now her blind date was Chi Ruixi too.
Wait, Omega?
Yu Heyi looked up at Chi Ruixi, confused. Chi Ruixi, still smiling, seemed to sense her doubt and said, “I’m an Omega.”
“But you weren’t…”
Before Yu Heyi could finish, Chi Ruixi cut her off, “The summer after high school graduation, I differentiated into an Omega. Before that, I was only predicted to be a beta.”
Her tone was casual. After speaking, she waved to the waiter. Chi Ruixi ordered what she liked, then glanced at the silent Yu Heyi and asked, “What do you want to eat?”
“Anything’s fine.”
Yu Heyi was in a mental tug-of-war. She didn’t like Chi Ruixi—actually, she disliked her. But that was a teenage thing. Now, over a decade later, they weren’t kids anymore.
Plus, Yu Heyi was raised to treat Omegas gently. It’d be rude to just walk out. But honestly, she really wanted to leave.
She didn’t want to eat with Chi Ruixi.
Yet when Chi Ruixi asked what she wanted, she said, “Anything’s fine.”
She was losing it.
Soon, the food arrived. Chi Ruixi didn’t talk to her, eating quietly. But her eyes never left Yu Heyi, stealing glances when Yu Heyi wasn’t looking.
Yu Heyi had chosen the restaurant. Chi Ruixi thought back to yesterday when Yu Heyi added her on WeChat, her tone so sweet and polite. If she didn’t know Yu Heyi from before, she’d have thought she was a soft, puppy-like alpha.
But she knew Yu Heyi wasn’t.
As Yu Heyi expected, she also recalled her WeChat messages from yesterday. She wanted to chop her own hands off. She didn’t have Chi Ruixi’s WeChat and didn’t want it. So when the matchmaker sent it to Lady Du, who passed it to her, she didn’t think much of it.
She’d planned to ask about her date, but Lady Du knew nothing.
Well, almost nothing—she knew the woman was two years older.
So, Yu Heyi politely called her “sister” and asked if a barbecue place was okay. Thinking of her clueless self yesterday, Yu Heyi felt the barbecue lost its appeal.
But maybe, probably, Chi Ruixi didn’t know it was her either. Neither knew who the other was.
Whatever. It didn’t matter. You could let down anything, but not good food. Since her discharge, Yu Heyi hadn’t had barbecue. Ignoring Chi Ruixi, she dove into the meat.
The fatty beef was juicy. Greedy Yu Heyi preferred it fattier—it was delicious. Eating away, she suddenly looked up at Chi Ruixi, who was eating daintily. Her long, wavy hair got in the way, so she tucked it back.
…Yu Heyi stopped eating, staring at Chi Ruixi’s beautiful face, stunned.
So, differentiation was *that* magical?
Even if she disliked Chi Ruixi, she had to admit—Chi Ruixi was really… pretty now.
Her gaze was too intense. Chi Ruixi, nibbling on her meat, felt her ears turn red. Being stared at by an alpha while eating as an Omega was kind of embarrassing, okay?
Plus, Yu Heyi was so blatant. When Chi Ruixi looked at her, she did it secretly.
The staring made Chi Ruixi more and more uneasy. She kept tucking her hair back, her already pink ears turning redder. Yu Heyi’s eyes roamed up and down, as if trying to see through her.
After enduring it for maybe two minutes, Chi Ruixi couldn’t take it. She asked, “What are you even looking at?”
Yu Heyi, completely unfazed, acted like she hadn’t been staring. She straightened up, gave a fake smile, and said, “Where’d you get your plastic surgery?”
…Chi Ruixi never expected that’s what Yu Heyi was thinking after staring so long. Her face darkened, her expression cooling. She gripped the napkin tightly.
Yu Heyi’s eyes flicked to Chi Ruixi’s hand, then to the angry sparks in her eyes. She felt a bit pleased.
Who cares if it was surgery? Making Chi Ruixi mad was a win.
Looking at Chi Ruixi’s big, round eyes, high nose, and perfect jawline, comparing her to the nerd from high school, Yu Heyi couldn’t see the resemblance.
They didn’t know each other well. Based on Chi Ruixi’s impression of Yu Heyi’s personality, she thought Yu Heyi might walk out the moment they met. But surprisingly, Yu Heyi sat there, happily eating meat.
Maybe she really just loved food. Chi Ruixi relaxed and ate too. But Yu Heyi’s comment stung—not just questioning her looks but her gender too.
Yu Heyi didn’t know Chi Ruixi well either. For years, her impression was: rival, annoying, nerd.
So, Chi Ruixi suddenly being beautiful threw her off—more shocking than her being her blind date.
Shocked and curious.
Curious enough to ignore the food and stare at Chi Ruixi, still doubting what she saw.
After a silent moment, Chi Ruixi composed herself first. She cleared her throat and said, “Long time no see. Isn’t it rude to ask that right off the bat?”
Hearing “long time no see” again, Yu Heyi found it funny. Were they old friends who needed that phrase?
She smirked and said, “If I knew it was you, I wouldn’t have come.”
That half-smile made Chi Ruixi uncomfortable. She shot back, “Same here.”
Finally saying what they should’ve said at the start, Yu Heyi lost her appetite. Leaning back, she said, “I planned to quietly finish this meal, then tell the matchmaker we’re not a fit. But now, I don’t think I can keep going.”
Chi Ruixi wasn’t surprised. She even thought Yu Heyi would’ve said this sooner. She nodded in agreement, about to speak when a wave of heat surged within her… Her hand instinctively reached for her bag.
Just then, the waiter came over. Chi Ruixi, her hand on the suppressant, paused.
After the food arrived, Yu Heyi ordered a peach-flavored soda. The waiter handed it to her. Chi Ruixi watched as Yu Heyi opened it, the peach soda sliding past her red lips. The heat in Chi Ruixi’s body intensified.
“Hey, it’s not tart?” Yu Heyi took another sip. The soda was sweet peach, but why did she taste an unripe, sour peach flavor?
She sniffed carefully. The sour peach smell wasn’t from her glass—it was getting stronger, overpowering her drink.
Frowning, she asked Chi Ruixi, “Do you smell a sour peach scent?”
Looking up, she saw Chi Ruixi’s face flushed unnaturally, like she was suppressing something. Then, Chi Ruixi said slowly, “That’s my pheromone…”
Yu Heyi glanced at Chi Ruixi’s neck. Her suppressant patch was intact. Thinking Chi Ruixi was messing with her, she was about to snap back when Chi Ruixi’s soft, delicate voice came, “My heat might’ve come early.”
