After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 43
Chapter 43
Yu Heyi stood at Chi Ruixi’s door, her finger hesitating over the keypad.
0925. Her birthday.
Chi Ruixi’s house code was her birthday.
She opened the door and walked in. The hotpot and grilled meat they’d prepared were still there, and the durian Chi Ruixi bought sat on the balcony. She wondered if the durian would go bad if they didn’t eat it today.
Holding her breath against the smell, she put the durian in the fridge. Since Chi Ruixi liked it, she probably wouldn’t mind other food picking up the durian’s flavor.
Afterwards, she tidied the table. Though the food looked tempting, eating alone was too dull. She put everything in the fridge… then took it out again.
Chi Ruixi didn’t mind the durian smell, but she did. So she packed up, took the food back to her place, and stored it in her fridge.
Done, Yu Heyi sprawled on the sofa, feeling bored…
She messaged Jiang Qi on WeChat to play a game, but after waiting forever, Jiang Qi didn’t reply.
She played two rounds alone, feeling even more bored.
Even irritated.
Before bed, Yu Heyi took another inhibitor.
She dreamed of Chi Ruixi— their blind date, Jingwan’s wedding, and high school, where Chi Ruixi, with thick bangs, greeted her before walking off with an alpha Yu Heyi didn’t know.
Yu Heyi chased after her, shouting, “Chi Ruixi, why are you going with her? Come back!!”
But Chi Ruixi didn’t turn around. She even linked arms with the alpha, laughing and talking.
No matter how Yu Heyi cried and shouted, she wouldn’t look back.
The dream felt too real. When Yu Heyi woke, she instinctively wiped tears away, letting out a heavy breath: “Phew…”
She checked the time. Five o’clock.
She’d slept less than three hours, but now she was wide awake, replaying the dream.
The scene of Chi Ruixi walking away with that alpha, getting farther and farther, lingered. The heartache felt too real.
If Chi Ruixi left with someone else, what would she do?
Their relationship still had unspoken things to clear up.
Feeling awful, Yu Heyi tossed and turned on the sofa until 5:30. Her body started feeling off. She’d forgotten to close the window last night, and the breeze left her uncomfortable. Her throat burned, and her head felt dizzy.
The dream’s pain faded, but her body felt worse.
She dozed off again, waking at 6:30 on the dot. She dreamed Chi Ruixi was back, so she rushed to the kitchen to make breakfast!
Picking up the pan, she remembered it was the weekend, and Chi Ruixi had gone home last night. She didn’t know if she was back.
“Sigh… what am I even doing?” Her throat hurt more, sore and hoarse.
She drank a glass of water, gulping it down, which eased her throat a bit. Then she grabbed her phone and sent Chi Ruixi a WeChat message.
“Are you awake?”
Around seven, Chi Ruixi replied with two words: “I’m awake.”
Seeing her reply, Yu Heyi’s throat felt less sore. Excited, she typed, “When are you coming back…”
Then deleted it. Did it sound too eager? Would Chi Ruixi think she was clingy?
She mulled it over for five minutes before replying, but Chi Ruixi didn’t respond again.
Because Old Madam Chi had called her to breakfast.
At the dining table, Old Madam Chi sat at the head, Chi Shengxi on the left, and Chi Ruixi on the right.
The Chi family’s breakfast was lavish—soy milk, buns, fried dough sticks, milk, bread, ham, everything.
Old Madam Chi had a Chinese-style breakfast of soy milk and fried dough sticks. Chi Shengxi had milk and bread.
Chi Ruixi had a glass of milk.
She had no appetite and didn’t want to eat breakfast at the Chi house.
Last night’s topic was unresolved. During her argument with Old Madam Chi, Chi Shengxi spoke up.
“Does our Chi family still need help from others?” Old Madam Chi was visibly displeased but stayed silent.
With Old Madam Chi quiet, Chi Ruixi felt at ease and was about to say she’d leave when Old Madam Chi spoke.
“It’s late. It’s unsafe for an Omega to go back. Stay the night.”
Chi Ruixi didn’t want to stay and was about to refuse, but Chi Shengxi gave her a look.
A signal to comply.
Chi Ruixi hesitated but agreed.
Both sisters knew what kind of person their mother was. Chi Shengxi’s words could shut her up, but Chi Ruixi couldn’t—not yet. Refusing might make things worse.
But the atmosphere now wasn’t great either.
The three ate breakfast in silence. Chi Shengxi finished first, pushing her plate aside and wiping her mouth. A servant cleared her dishes.
Chi Ruixi hadn’t eaten at all. Seeing Chi Shengxi done, she didn’t want her milk either.
Old Madam Chi, sharp-eyed, said, “How can you not eat breakfast properly?”
Her tone was like Chi Ruixi was a picky child caught by her mother.
Chi Ruixi smiled, her heart aching. As a child, her mother never cared if she ate or not.
Was it because she was older now, or was it just about the so-called marriage alliance?
If the former, fine. If the latter, heh…
“I can’t eat.” The semi-harmonious mood was shattered by Chi Ruixi’s cold tone.
Old Madam Chi seized the chance to press.
“You’re grown, and you still can’t take care of yourself? What, your alpha can’t take care of you either?”
Why bring up Yu Heyi?
Chi Ruixi rolled her eyes inwardly, looking at Old Madam Chi. “She’s great.”
She said it with a smile, and Old Madam Chi, thinking she was being provoked, slammed her chopsticks on the floor.
“I’m telling you, whether she’s good or not, your relationship doesn’t count. I’ve already arranged a meeting for you!”
“I’m not going!” Chi Ruixi replied without thinking.
“That’s not up to you!” Old Madam Chi didn’t back down, spilling all the words she held back last night.
Telling her alpha to stay away, that they were done!
A mere cook—what could she achieve?
Her words all implied Yu Heyi’s status didn’t match Chi Ruixi’s.
Chi Ruixi was angry at first, but the more she looked at her mother, the more she seemed like a clown.
Chi Shengxi stayed silent but shared Chi Ruixi’s thoughts. Talk of repaying favors was just a pretext for a business marriage with the Jiang family.
“Enough!” Chi Shengxi’s voice was stern, carrying the weight of years as a leader. Old Madam Chi was startled, turning to look at her.
Chi Ruixi nearly laughed. She wasn’t afraid of Chi Shengxi, but Old Madam Chi was.
It indirectly showed how much alphas mattered to Old Madam Chi.
“Mother, stay out of Ruixi’s affairs. I said yesterday, with the Chi family in my hands, we don’t need marriage alliances.”
Chi Shengxi’s brows showed clear impatience. She stood and walked out, turning back at the door.
“I’ll drive you back.”
Clearly addressing Chi Ruixi, who stood, grabbed her bag, and followed without glancing at Old Madam Chi.
Old Madam Chi’s face was ashen, her hands clenched tightly, thinking, “I can’t control Chi Shengxi, but can’t I handle Chi Ruixi? Even without the Jiangs, she can’t just be with any alpha!”
On the drive back, the sisters were silent. Chi Ruixi had nothing to say, and Chi Shengxi didn’t know how to start.
They were long past the days of talking freely. They barely even chatted.
Chi Shengxi kept glancing at Chi Ruixi, making her too shy to check her phone for Yu Heyi’s messages.
They arrived at the apartment in silence.
Chi Ruixi got out, turning to Chi Shengxi. “Sis, I’m heading up. Drive safe.”
Chi Shengxi nodded. As Chi Ruixi took a few steps, Chi Shengxi called out.
“Ruixi, call me if anything comes up.” She turned away, and the driver pulled off.
From her words to the car leaving, it was just seconds. Chi Ruixi hadn’t processed it.
But she noticed her sister’s cheeks were red.
Oddly red, considering she hadn’t said anything extreme—just words they used to say often but hadn’t in a long time.
In the elevator, Chi Ruixi saw Yu Heyi’s two WeChat messages.
“Are you back for breakfast?”
“I made breakfast for you.”
Chi Ruixi’s lips curved. Her bad mood lifted.
Exiting the elevator, she spotted Yu Heyi right away, holding breakfast.
Yu Heyi was nearly dozing off waiting at Chi Ruixi’s door. Finally, she saw her step out of the elevator.
“I made steamed buns, learned from Li Li. Not sure if you’ll like them.”
As she spoke, Chi Ruixi, who seemed in a good mood, suddenly frowned.
“What’s wrong? What happened?”
Chi Ruixi didn’t speak. She stepped closer, hugged Yu Heyi’s shoulders over the buns, and said in a muffled voice, “How long have you been waiting?”
Caught off guard by her sudden move, Yu Heyi answered honestly, “Not long, maybe half an hour.”
Then she felt a pinch at her waist.
“Ow… what was that for?”
She felt Chi Ruixi gently rub the spot, easing the pain.
“Does it hurt?”
She wanted to say, “Of course it hurts!” But Chi Ruixi’s soft touch made her shy.
Stammering, she said, “Uh… no… it doesn’t hurt!”
Chi Ruixi held the position, her tone turning stern.
“Then does your throat hurt?”
Yu Heyi had forgotten her sore throat until Chi Ruixi mentioned it. Her voice was a bit hoarse.
So that’s why Chi Ruixi frowned?
Holding the food, Yu Heyi couldn’t hug her back, so she rubbed her face against Chi Ruixi’s, whispering, “Kiss me, and it won’t hurt.”
