After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 48
Chapter 48
“Zhan Yuan! Wait for me, Zhan Yuan… Zhan Yuan!” Chi Ying clutched her stomach, chasing after Zhan Yuan while shouting, but Zhan Yuan didn’t stop until they reached the school gate.
The driver waiting to pick her up was already at the gate. The exams were over, and Old Madam Chi, feeling sorry for her granddaughter, had sent the driver early.
“Little Miss.” The driver, dressed in a neat suit, stood formally by the car and bowed to Chi Ying. But Chi Ying didn’t even glance at him, rushing toward Zhan Yuan’s direction.
They had both been walking, but after leaving the classroom building, Zhan Yuan suddenly started running. Chi Ying had no choice but to chase after her. Near the snack street behind the school, Zhan Yuan finally stopped.
“Why are you chasing me?”
Chi Ying leaned against the wall, panting. “Huff… so tired. Zhan Yuan, you run way too fast, don’t you?”
It seemed Zhan Yuan might not become a cute alpha in the future but a really tough one. Her stamina was so strong that even Chi Ying, an alpha, could barely keep up.
Normally, an alpha’s physical endurance would be better than an undifferentiated person’s, but Chi Ying had only recently differentiated. Her pheromones weren’t stable yet, and her stamina couldn’t compare to an adult alpha’s. She was just slightly better than an average person, so she definitely couldn’t match Zhan Yuan, who exercised regularly.
After running this far, Chi Ying was drenched in sweat, her back soaked, and her face slightly flushed…
She looked a bit fragile. Zhan Yuan was momentarily stunned. Though Chi Ying hadn’t fully developed, she was different after differentiating. Now, she looked a lot like the pre-differentiated Chi Ying, fragile and vulnerable.
“If you can’t run, why follow me?” Seeing Chi Ying like this, Zhan Yuan felt a pang of heartache. If she’d known, she wouldn’t have run.
“Then… why did you run?” Chi Ying’s breathing steadied a bit, but thinking about chasing her this long made her feel a little wronged.
When had Zhan Yuan ever treated her like this before?
When had they ever gone this long without talking?
Zhan Yuan didn’t know why she ran either. She just didn’t want to talk to Chi Ying. Seeing her made her angry.
And Chi Ying didn’t even get it.
“I’m in a hurry to get home,” Zhan Yuan said, looking away from Chi Ying.
Chi Ying wasn’t dumb. She knew Zhan Yuan wasn’t telling the truth.
There was a few meters’ distance between them. Chi Ying took a few steps forward, grabbed Zhan Yuan’s hand, and softened her tone. “Zhan Yuan, let’s make up, okay?”
Make up…
Hearing this, Zhan Yuan’s eyelashes fluttered, and her face suddenly flushed as if she’d thought of something.
“Hm? Come on, Zhan Yuan, let’s make up. No more fighting.” Chi Ying started shaking her hand, acting cute. Zhan Yuan clearly couldn’t handle it and struggled slightly to pull her hand free.
But Chi Ying was an alpha, and her strength was more than Zhan Yuan could resist.
Zhan Yuan could only let her hold on.
Then she looked up at her.
“Chi Ying, I’m not fighting. I’m just in a hurry to get home.” Though she didn’t pull her hand away, her tone wasn’t like usual.
This made Chi Ying feel wronged.
“You’re ignoring me. How is that not fighting?”
Zhan Yuan was at a loss for words. She hadn’t been paying much attention to Chi Ying lately, but she had her reasons. And what happened earlier made her even less inclined to deal with Chi Ying.
At that thought, Zhan Yuan suddenly yanked her hand free. Before Chi Ying could react, she said coldly, “Chi Ying, don’t you know you’re annoying? Just because of our relationship, all sorts of random Omegas keep asking me about you.”
With that, Zhan Yuan turned her face away, no longer looking at Chi Ying.
Chi Ying hadn’t expected her to say that. So, the male Omega’s face turning red earlier was because… he liked her??
“I don’t even like them. Just ignore them from now on.”
After saying this, Chi Ying saw Zhan Yuan give her a look she couldn’t understand. Her heart inexplicably panicked, and before she could figure out what was happening, Zhan Yuan started walking again.
“Stop following me. I’m in a hurry to get home. I have things to do.”
Huh? Chi Ying blinked, feeling utterly confused.
Chi Family.
Old Madam Chi looked at Chi Ying with a doting expression, instructing the kitchen to make Chi Ying’s favorite dishes and personally piling her bowl high with food.
“Little Ying, eat more. You’re still growing.”
Chi Ying was in a bad mood and didn’t want to deal with her grandma. She gave a listless response, but the food in her bowl didn’t decrease. She picked at it while lost in thought.
What did Zhan Yuan’s look mean?
She couldn’t quite explain it, but it felt strange.
“Little Ying, Little Ying?” Seeing her distracted granddaughter, Old Madam Chi got a bit anxious. Was the food not to her taste? After calling a few times, Chi Ying finally reacted.
“What’s wrong, Grandma?”
“Is the food not to your liking?”
Chi Ying was about to say no when Old Madam Chi suddenly snapped at the servants harshly, “I told you to make dishes Little Ying likes. What is this? What if she starves?”
Before Chi Ying could react, Old Madam Chi’s anger flared, and her words grew harsher. Already in a bad mood, Chi Ying’s mood worsened hearing this.
“Enough, stop yelling!!!”
The room fell silent.
Old Madam Chi hadn’t expected Chi Ying to snap like that. She was stunned, then seemed to recover. “Alright, Little Ying, we won’t make these dishes anymore. I’ll fire them tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Chi Ying looked at her in disbelief.
Though her grandma had been lukewarm toward her before, Chi Ying knew she wasn’t easy to get along with. But she hadn’t realized she could be this overbearing.
“Grandma, what are you talking about? I just don’t have an appetite.”
“If their food makes you lose your appetite, why keep them?” Old Madam Chi said self-righteously, infuriating Chi Ying.
It had only been half a year since her differentiation, and she’d only recently gotten closer to her grandma. In other words, it was because she’d differentiated that her grandma started being affectionate.
Before, she didn’t understand and just disliked her grandma. But now, she realized her grandma was truly too much.
“Why are you always so domineering? You control what I eat, what I don’t eat, and even Aunt’s marriage? You’re so old—can’t you just calm down?”
Old Madam Chi opened her mouth, hesitating whether to say something.
After all, she had her pride. Being yelled at by Chi Ying in front of the servants made her face flush red and white. It was only because Chi Ying had differentiated into an alpha that she held back.
If it were Chi Ruixi, she wouldn’t have hesitated.
They stared at each other.
Just then, the sound of high heels came from the entrance…
Chi Shengxi was back.
She’d come home today because Chi Ying was there, but hearing Chi Ying’s words at the door, her expression darkened.
“Chi Ying, do you know what you’re saying? Is this how I raised you?”
When Chi Shengxi hadn’t spoken, Chi Ying felt a bit panicked seeing her. But her words completely enraged Chi Ying.
She smirked, her gaze shifting from Chi Shengxi to Old Madam Chi.
Then back to Chi Shengxi, she gave a mocking smile and said, “You raised me? What have you ever taught me?”
“Walking? Talking? Or how to be a person?” Chi Ying even shrugged exaggeratedly, ignoring Chi Shengxi’s darkening face, and continued, “You’re my mother, sure, but all those things were taught by Aunt.”
Mentioning Chi Ruixi, her eyes turned fierce, and she gritted her teeth. “And Aunt raised me well, not like you two, so heartless.”
Then she turned to Old Madam Chi and shouted, “One ready to sell her daughter.” Pointing at Chi Shengxi, she continued, “And one who never cared about her own daughter.”
Old Madam Chi looked at Chi Ying in disbelief, her face pale, as if she couldn’t process Chi Ying’s change. In her mind, Chi Ying was an obedient child.
As for Chi Shengxi, she’d always known her daughter wasn’t the docile type. She was very much like her, like the Chi family.
In the Chi family, only Chi Ruixi was different, like their mother, the Omega who died young.
But being called out by Chi Ying like this, Chi Shengxi couldn’t accept it. Who could handle their own daughter confronting them like that?
But Chi Ying didn’t care, as if she was unloading years of grievances today.
She stood in front of Chi Shengxi now. They were almost the same height, and Chi Ying looked her straight in the eye. Chi Shengxi stared at her furious daughter, who looked so much like herself.
Years ago, she’d lashed out at her own mother too.
Chi Shengxi suddenly wanted to touch her face. The thought came, and her hand was already on Chi Ying’s cheek, but in less than a second, Chi Ying slapped it away.
Her daughter, eyes red, teeth clenched, said word by word, “Chi Shengxi… my mom. Aunt told me not to call you by your name. You’re my mom.”
“But… Mom, Aunt is your sister too. Why don’t you protect her?” The last sentence was almost a shout, followed by a choked, “Why?”
Chi Shengxi’s body swayed at her final words.
For years, she’d fought against her mother, sidelining her, growing the company bigger. In the end… her daughter questioned her the same way she’d questioned her mother.
Her mother compromised because she lost power. But she… couldn’t refute because of guilt.
She knew this day would come, but she didn’t expect it so soon.
So soon she wasn’t prepared.
Chi Ying left, walking out of the Chi mansion alone. She took out her phone and called Zhan Yuan, but it was disconnected in a second.
Looking for Zhan Yuan like this wouldn’t solve anything and would only worry her.
She kept walking. Suddenly, thunder rumbled, and raindrops began to fall.
Chi Ying called Chi Ruixi.
“Hello, Little Ying?”
Hearing Chi Ruixi’s voice, Chi Ying’s tears fell, full of grievances.
“Aunt… sob… come pick me up.”
