After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 49
Chapter 49
When Chi Ying called, Chi Ruixi and Yu Heyi had just returned from dinner. As they reached the neighborhood entrance, it started pouring. Yu Heyi rummaged for a while after getting out of the car, found an umbrella, and handed it to Chi Ruixi without hesitation.
“You use it. Don’t get wet.” She was about to run through the rain, but Chi Ruixi grabbed her, tilting the umbrella toward Yu Heyi and saying softly, “Together.”
“Okay.”
Yu Heyi took the umbrella, holding it mostly over Chi Ruixi, leaving half her shoulder exposed. Chi Ruixi noticed, pursed her lips, and said nothing. She slipped an arm around Yu Heyi’s waist, pulling them closer so they both fit under the umbrella.
Yu Heyi froze at the gesture, then put an arm around Chi Ruixi’s shoulders, their bodies pressed tightly together. Yu Heyi smiled and rushed with Chi Ruixi to the building entrance.
In the elevator, Yu Heyi sighed, “Good thing we came back early, or we’d be soaked.”
They’d returned early because Chi Ruixi wasn’t used to barbecue. Yu Heyi had been focused on eating meat, which Chi RUixi found a bit greasy.
“Did you eat enough?” Yu Heyi asked, putting away the umbrella. At the start of dinner, Chi Ruixi had eaten well, but she slowed down later, leaving Yu Heyi to eat most of it.
Yu Heyi loved meat and hadn’t considered that Chi Ruixi might not like it. Who doesn’t love meat?
“I’m almost full. You shouldn’t eat so much at night.”
Yu Heyi rubbed her nose, sensing Chi Ruixi was fibbing. At home, she’d noticed Chi Ruixi had a decent appetite and didn’t seem to care about eating less at night.
“You don’t like meat?”
Chi Ruixi looked up, biting her lip, and said quietly, “It’s not that I don’t like it. It just felt too greasy.”
Oh, so she liked it but didn’t eat much.
Without thinking, Yu Heyi said, “Then you can eat something lighter.”
As she spoke, the elevator stopped. Chi Ruixi ignored her comment and stepped out. Yu Heyi followed, not heading to her own place. As Chi Ruixi half-opened her door, she turned back, sounding a bit aggrieved. “Didn’t you say you’d take me to eat something good?”
Uh… so that’s why. Yu Heyi scratched her head, embarrassed. “Next time, I’ll order something lighter for you.”
Chi Ruixi pouted, opened the door, and went in.
The door stayed open. Yu Heyi peeked inside and followed. She found Chi Ruixi’s little tantrum kind of cute.
Just as she entered, she saw Chi Ruixi in the living room, answering a phone call, her brows furrowed.
“Where are you? Aunt’s coming to get you.”
Chi Ying? What was wrong this late? Yu Heyi hurried to Chi Ruixi, looking anxious. Chi Ruixi glanced at her and continued comforting Chi Ying.
Chi Ying was still crouched on the ground, crying. Her pitiful voice broke Chi Ruixi’s heart. She coaxed gently, “Find somewhere to stay dry. Aunt’s coming now. Be good, Little Ying.”
“Okay… got it, Aunt.” Chi Ying’s voice was still tearful, but hearing Chi Ruixi seemed to calm her. Her tone carried a clear reliance on her aunt.
As soon as Chi Ruixi hung up, Yu Heyi asked, “What’s wrong with Chi Ying?”
Chi Ruixi’s face was grim with worry. She explained to Yu Heyi, “I don’t know what happened, but it’s probably not good. She was crying.”
Hearing Chi Ying was crying, Yu Heyi got anxious too. She actually liked Chi Ying. The kid seemed well-behaved but was quite mischievous and cute, just Yu Heyi’s type.
“Where is she? I’ll go get her.” She started rushing out, but Chi Ruixi called after her.
“I’m going with you.”
“It’s raining outside.” Yu Heyi was worried about Chi Ying, but she didn’t want Chi Ruixi getting wet either.
“Because it’s raining, I have to go. Little Ying’s waiting for me.” Chi Ruixi’s voice cracked, and Yu Heyi was a bit puzzled. As the youngest in her family, she had no nieces or younger siblings, only older relatives.
Though she was worried, Chi Ruixi’s near-tears reaction seemed a bit much to her. Chi Ying was seventeen or eighteen, not seven or eight.
But… what could she do?
“Then put on a jacket.”
At that, Chi Ruixi realized her oversight and hurried to her bedroom to grab a jacket. When she returned, she said, “You’re so thoughtful. Little Ying’s probably soaked.”
…Being praised felt nice, but that wasn’t what Yu Heyi meant.
“I meant for you to wear a jacket…”
“Never mind, I’ll get it.”
By now, Yu Heyi was familiar with Chi Ruixi’s place. She went straight to the bedroom, grabbed a sports jacket, and draped it over Chi Ruixi’s shoulders.
Chi Ruixi felt a warmth, instinctively grabbing Yu Heyi’s hand. “What about you? I’ll get you a jacket…”
Before she could finish, Yu Heyi cut her off. “Let’s go. Chi Ying’s still in the rain.”
Yu Heyi’s urgency, pulling her along, seemed even greater than her own. Her serious, worried expression made Chi Ruixi stare until they left the elevator.
She followed Yu Heyi quickly to the car, and they set off.
Yu Heyi drove fast, speeding through red lights. A trip that should’ve taken over half an hour was cut to just over twenty minutes.
Though eager to get Chi Ying, Chi Ruixi worried Yu Heyi’s driving might cause an accident. “Slow down. A few minutes won’t matter.”
She was worried about Chi Ying, but Yu Heyi was important too.
Yu Heyi just smiled casually. “It’s fine. Some races were way more intense than this.”
Her words made Chi Ruixi pause. They hadn’t talked about Yu Heyi’s racing past, and Yu Heyi clearly didn’t want to.
So Chi Ruixi didn’t ask. She knew how thrilling Yu Heyi’s races were—she’d watched nearly every video of them multiple times. Though Yu Heyi always came out fine, the dangerous moments always made her nervous.
Even outside of racing, on a road like this, every time Yu Heyi accelerated, Chi Ruixi’s heart jolted.
“Then drive slower. Safety first.”
Chi Ruixi reached out, wanting to touch Yu Heyi’s hand, but remembering she was driving, she pulled back and clenched her own hands.
Her small gesture didn’t escape Yu Heyi, who slowed down a bit and patted Chi Ruixi’s clasped hands. “Don’t worry, I’m going slower. We’re almost there.”
When the car stopped, both hurriedly got out. Chi Ruixi didn’t even open the umbrella before rushing to Chi Ying, who was crouching across the street. Yu Heyi followed.
“Little Ying…”
Chi Ying was soaked, water dripping down her face, her whole body drenched. Tears mixed with rain. Seeing Chi Ruixi, she stood, wanting to throw herself into her arms.
But halfway, she stopped. She was soaking wet and didn’t want to get her aunt wet.
As she hesitated, Chi Ruixi came over, hugging her and stroking her hair. “Little Ying, Aunt’s here to take you home.”
Yu Heyi appeared behind Chi Ruixi, holding the umbrella over them.
Chi Ying looked up at both, then buried herself in Chi Ruixi’s arms, clutching her shoulders and whining, “Aunt, you’re finally here.”
Yu Heyi stood behind, watching their embrace, feeling a twinge of jealousy.
Though Chi Ying was Chi Ruixi’s niece, she couldn’t help it—she wanted to hug Chi Ruixi too…
They didn’t hug long before parting. Yu Heyi spoke up, “Let’s get home before you catch a cold.”
On the way back, Yu Heyi drove steadily, so it took longer than the trip there.
By the time they got home after all this, it was nearly ten. All three were soaked, Chi Ying trembling slightly.
Yu Heyi looked worriedly at the two cuddling on the sofa. “Go shower. Don’t catch a cold.”
Hearing her, Chi Ruixi nudged Chi Ying. “Little Ying, you shower first.”
Chi Ying blinked, letting go. She knew her aunt’s place had only one bathroom. If she showered, her aunt would have to wait. As an alpha, she’d be fine, but her aunt, an Omega, had a weaker constitution.
So, she insisted Chi Ruixi go first.
Chi Ruixi disagreed, saying Chi Ying was still young and should go first.
They reached a stalemate. Yu Heyi, standing nearby, finally spoke up.
“I have a suggestion. Want to hear it?”
Both Chi Ruixi and Chi Ying turned to her, waiting.
“Chi Ying, you shower here. Ruixi, shower at my place.”
Chi Ruixi frowned and shook her head. “No way. What about you?”
“I’m an adult alpha. My constitution’s way stronger. It’s settled.” Yu Heyi didn’t want to waste more time arguing. Their debate had already taken long enough for her to have showered.
Chi Ruixi wanted to say more, but Yu Heyi pulled her up and pushed her toward the door.
“Go shower. I’ll make you both some ginger tea.”
Chi Ruixi couldn’t resist Yu Heyi’s strength and gave up. At the door, she suddenly remembered something, her face reddening. She glanced at Yu Heyi, then at Chi Ying.
Leaning close to Yu Heyi’s ear, she whispered, “I need… to grab pajamas.”
She went to the bedroom, took her pajamas and underwear, and grabbed some for Chi Ying too. Handing them to Chi Ying, she left with a flushed face.
Meeting Chi Ying’s gaze, Yu Heyi felt awkward. It was just a shower, but Chi Ruixi’s blushing made it feel so… intimate.
