After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Actually, Chi Ying had already finished her shower and was waiting for the two to come back. But instead of them, she got a phone call. Chi Ruixi opened the door for her. When they faced each other, Chi Ying gave a naughty smile and said in a not-too-loud voice, “Auntie, were you and Uncle doing something bad?”
Though nothing had happened, thinking about how Yu Heyi had held her earlier made her feel a bit guilty. So when Chi Ying said that, her face turned unnaturally red, and she scolded softly, “Kids should watch what they say.”
Yu Heyi heard it too. She was setting the noodles on the dining table. At first, she thought Chi Ying was just joking, but then she heard Chi Ruixi’s coy tone and suddenly understood why Chi Ruixi’s voice had sounded so strange earlier.
So that’s what it was.
“Ruixi, Chi Ying, come eat.”
The two sat at the table. Yu Heyi handed Chi Ruixi a bowl of brown sugar ginger water to drink.
Chi Ying said thank you, drank it, and set it aside. Her eyes lit up at the sight of the zha jiang noodles on the table.
She hadn’t eaten since noon and felt like she could eat a whole cow.
The zha jiang noodles looked delicious and tasted even better—way better than the dinner earlier. Chi Ying ate quickly. Chi Ruixi frowned watching her, thinking, how hungry is this kid?
“Didn’t you eat tonight?”
Hearing Chi Ruixi’s words, Chi Ying looked up from her bowl, blinked, and said, “No, I didn’t have an appetite tonight.”
When she mentioned not having an appetite, her eyes darted away, and then she buried her head back in her food.
Yu Heyi wasn’t that hungry. She served herself a small bowl and finished quickly, then watched the two across from her eat.
To be precise, she watched Chi Ruixi eat. Unlike Chi Ying or herself, who ate in big bites, Chi Ruixi took small, delicate bites, though her mouth was still a bit full, making her cheeks puff out.
Kind of cute.
But… Chi Ruixi’s eyes kept glancing at Chi Ying.
She wasn’t jealous, but she still wanted Chi Ruixi’s gaze to be only on her.
And it was obvious the two had something to talk about.
Soon, they finished eating too. The three of them stared at each other until Yu Heyi spoke, “Take Xiao Ying back to sleep. It’s late.”
Chi Ruixi nodded, ready to take Chi Ying back. They got up, and Chi Ying walked ahead, turning back to Yu Heyi to say, “Uncle’s noodles were really good. Thank you.”
Yu Heyi smiled and said, “No problem. If you like them, I’ll make them for you again.” Being called Uncle so formally felt amazing.
Her joy was obvious. Chi Ruixi’s face shifted uncomfortably, and she reached out to hold Yu Heyi’s hand from below.
Chi Ying was perceptive. She’d already walked to the door, leaving them some space.
“You should sleep early too. I’m going back with Chi Ying,” Chi Ruixi said, squeezing Yu Heyi’s hand. Yu Heyi felt her warmth, didn’t let go, and slid her fingers through Chi Ruixi’s, holding tight. Then she lifted their hands and kissed the back of Chi Ruixi’s hand.
Chi Ruixi instinctively glanced at Chi Ying. Chi Ying, facing away, clearly didn’t see. Relieved, she smiled at Yu Heyi.
Yu Heyi let go of her hand and saw them off.
Then she went home, cleaned up, and got ready for bed.
But Chi Ruixi and Chi Ying didn’t sleep when they got home. Chi Ying knew her aunt would ask what happened, so they sat on the couch, Chi Ying waiting for Chi Ruixi to speak.
“Tell me.”
They were sitting across from each other. After Chi Ruixi spoke, Chi Ying got up, sat next to her, held her hand, and rested her head on her shoulder.
“I fought with my mom and grandma.”
Chi Ruixi closed her eyes. She knew it had to be something like that. Otherwise, why would Chi Ying call her crying in the middle of the night? She didn’t know what those two had done to her.
As she was thinking, her phone rang. Since Chi Ying was holding one of her hands, Chi Ruixi used the other to check it.
It was Chi Shengxi.
“Is Xiao Ying with you?”
Chi Ruixi replied, “She’s with me,” then locked her phone and placed it on the coffee table. Chi Ying saw her actions and could guess who it was.
She didn’t ask, and Chi Ruixi didn’t say.
Chi Ying shifted, lying on the couch with her head on Chi Ruixi’s lap. Chi Ruixi moved over to make her more comfortable, then stroked her hair.
After a while, Chi Ruixi felt something wet on her leg.
Even if her niece had differentiated into an alpha, in her eyes, she was still a kid who’d come to her for comfort when wronged.
“Auntie… do they even love us?”
That question again. When Chi Ying was little, she often asked things like, “Does Mom not love me?” As she grew older and saw how Old Madam Chi treated Chi Ruixi, it became, “Do they not love us?”
Chi Ruixi sighed, unsure how to answer. When Chi Ying was younger, she’d lie, saying, “Mom loves you, she’s just busy.”
She didn’t want her niece to feel unloved, so she answered like that. But as Chi Ying grew up and could tell for herself, Chi Ruixi stopped answering her questions. Like now—answering was pointless.
But she felt Chi Ying had it better than her. Chi Shengxi wasn’t that indifferent, and Chi Ying had her by her side growing up.
Unlike her—her mother died early, and only her sister was kind to her when she was young. Later… that was gone too.
Chi Ying cried harder. Chi Ruixi gently touched her face, her voice low and sad, “Xiao Ying, you know Auntie doesn’t know how to comfort you.”
Chi Ying sniffled and sat up.
“Auntie, I was wrong. I’m grown up now. I shouldn’t just want you to comfort me. I want to protect you.”
“So what happened today?”
Chi Ying turned her face away, taking a while to say, “I fought with Grandma.”
That answer surprised Chi Ruixi. She thought Chi Ying had fought with Chi Shengxi.
Not her mother.
“Why?”
At that, Chi Ying turned her whole body away, her tone stubborn, “I just couldn’t stand it, so I said a few things, and… then she fought back.”
Chi Ruixi moved closer, put her arm around her shoulders, and said gently, “Then your mom scolded you?”
The gentle tone made Chi Ying want to cry again, especially when Chi Ruixi mentioned her mom. Her mom’s coldness contrasted sharply with her aunt’s warmth. She turned back, tears in her eyes, her tone sharp about Chi Shengxi, “What kind of mom is she?”
“When has she ever cared about me? Who acts like a mom like that?”
The more she said, the more wronged she felt. Like when she was little, she buried herself in Chi Ruixi’s arms, her tears soaking Chi Ruixi’s clothes. Chi Ruixi didn’t mind, just stroked her back.
At first, it was just soft sobs, but feeling Chi Ruixi’s warm hand on her, Chi Ying’s crying grew louder, and she poured out years of pent-up feelings.
“Why aren’t you my mom, Auntie?”
Hearing that, Chi Ruixi’s heart ached and softened.
