After Going on a Blind Date With My Omega Love Rival (ABO, GL) - Chapter 9
Chapter 9
………
Was it necessary to change faces like that? If she missed Old Yu, fine, but why the theatrics?
“I’ll buy your plane ticket.”
“No need, I already did.”
As expected, the ticket was booked—planned all along.
“So, you came just to tell me you’re going abroad?”
“What else? I tried calling, but you didn’t pick up.” Du Ruo glared irritably, grabbed her bag from the coffee table, and headed out.
Two steps later, she turned back, eyeing Yu Heyi up and down, making her uneasy, sensing her mommy was up to something bad again.
“You planning to mooch at home forever?”
“Live off us?”
…I’m not, I didn’t.
Yu Heyi opened her mouth but didn’t speak. She truly didn’t know what to do next.
“Go work at Xijing High School.”
“???” Work at a school? Yu Heyi’s eyes widened, utterly confused.
“Me, a teacher?”
Du Ruo smacked her head, laughing in exasperation, “You, a teacher? Misleading kids?”
“Then what…”
“The school cafeteria needs a helper. Go do that.”
Yu Heyi’s expression crumbled, staring at her mommy with a head full of question marks…
“Besides racing, didn’t you always want to be a chef? Start as a helper, work hard, and get promoted to cook.”
Yu Heyi’s face darkened. Sure, as a kid, she dreamed of being a chef, but not a school cafeteria cook… She wanted to be a Michelin-starred chef.
How could Du Ruo not know her ambitions?
But right now, her daughter becoming a Michelin chef was impossible. A cafeteria cook, maybe serving food, was more realistic.
Du Ruo wasn’t looking down on her—Yu Heyi had no other options.
“Then do your actual job?”
…No way. As a rebellious kid, Yu Heyi hated her architecture degree most. She shook her head like a rattle—she couldn’t do it.
“Then you’re out of choices. You’re 28. We can’t keep supporting you.”
Hearing Du Ruo’s harsh words, Yu Heyi whined, “My prize money from all these years should tide me over until I find a job…”
Before she finished, Du Ruo cut in, “Your prize money? I saved it for your wife.”
“…Does it have to be that brutal?” Yu Heyi stared, incredulous.
“Brutal? Working for family is me being nice.” Du Ruo smiled, patting Yu Heyi’s cheek, finding it soft, and pinched it.
Her daughter’s skin was so smooth~
Yu Heyi squirmed, swatting Du Ruo’s hand away, grumbling, “Stop touching me like that. I’m 28, not 8.”
Du Ruo visibly soured. Grown-up daughters weren’t as fun. At 8, Yu Heyi would cuddle and coo; at 28, she drove her mad.
Feigning hurt, Du Ruo clutched her chest, fake-wiping tears, muttering, “You were so cute as a kid, clinging to Mommy~”
Here we go again. Yu Heyi was exasperated by her drama-queen mommy. Du Ruo’s maturity lasted maybe ten minutes before her true colors showed. Unable to take it, Yu Heyi said, “Aren’t you going to Old Yu? Go pack.”
Get out—only Old Yu could tame this old vixen.
Sure enough, mentioning Old Yu dried Du Ruo’s tears and eased her chest. In her floral dress, she pranced out, steps light, nothing like a near-fifty-year-old.
Playful was her mommy’s true nature.
At the door, Du Ruo turned back, “Rest a bit. Start work on the 1st. Someone will contact you.”
Yu Heyi nodded. With no choice, she’d follow orders. Satisfied, Du Ruo skipped out.
After seeing her mommy off, Yu Heyi went back to sleep. She was exhausted, barely sleeping lately.
But lying in bed, she couldn’t sleep.
Earlier, she was so tired she passed out instantly, but Du Ruo’s fuss had jolted her awake. It felt… strange.
For days, a soft, fragrant Omega had been in her arms. Now, the bed was empty. Sleeping alone in a big bed should’ve been nice, but… it felt so hollow.
Yu Heyi rolled over, muttering, “It’s all your fault, Chi Ruixi.”
Ugh! She really hated Chi Ruixi. Even gone, she caused insomnia.
—
Unlike the sleepless Yu Heyi, Chi Ruixi slept soundly.
Wearing Yu Heyi’s pajamas gave her the illusion of being held by her, making sleep extra sweet. If not for a phone call, she might’ve slept until evening.
Chi Ruixi didn’t want to answer, but the caller was persistent. After the call auto-ended once, it rang again.
Groggy, she grabbed the phone, seeing “Jingwan” on the screen.
“Hello…” Fresh from sleep, Chi Ruixi’s voice was husky and soft, making the other side overthink, “Ruixi, did I disturb you?”
Chi Ruixi nodded, then, realizing Jingwan couldn’t see, said, “Yeah, a bit.”
Yawning, Jingwan exclaimed, “You were sleeping?”
“Yeah? What else…” Mid-sentence, Chi Ruixi caught what Jingwan implied, recalling Yu Heyi’s words. Her tone cooled, “What’s up?”
Jingwan and Chi Ruixi had been decent friends since school, despite opposite personalities—Jingwan lively and cute, Chi Ruixi quiet and somber.
Jingwan’s crush on Chi Ruixi was real, the reason she befriended her, nothing more.
As friends, Jingwan coveted two things: Chi Ruixi’s beauty—her bangs hid stunning eyes in high school, and Jingwan was among the few who saw them—and her academic brilliance.
But after Yu Heyi’s confession to Jingwan, their friendship grew distant. As a kid, Jingwan thought using Chi Ruixi as a shield angered her. Later, she sensed the real reason.
Lost in thought, Jingwan forgot why she called until Chi Ruixi asked what was up.
“Ruixi, I picked some bridesmaid dresses. I’ll send pics for you to check.”
Chi Ruixi fell silent. Jingwan had asked her to be a bridesmaid multiple times—first a refusal, then silence. This time, she wasn’t letting Chi Ruixi off.
“Ruixi, you really won’t be my bridesmaid?”
Chi Ruixi frowned. She didn’t get why Jingwan was so insistent. She’d said no repeatedly, yet Jingwan kept asking, giving her a headache. Sitting up against the headboard, she said, “I really don’t want to…” Her refusal trailed off as Jingwan said, “Yu que, Heyi’s coming to the wedding.”
Jingwan was pleased with Chi Ruixi’s reaction—she knew she was right.
“I’ll send the pics soon. Pick one.” She hung up.
Chi Ruixi chuckled at the ended call. Jingwan hung up fast, clearly banking on her reaction.
Soon, Jingwan sent three photos: a girly pink dress, a white one, and a yellow one, all standard. Chi Ruixi’s brows furrowed—none were to her taste.
Originally uninterested, Jingwan’s words sparked her curiosity. With a cryptic smile, Chi Ruixi texted back, “I’ll prepare my own dress.”
