After I Lost My Memory, My Wife Started To Chase Me - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Staying With You
Beige walked over to Weishu, looking down at the black hair whorl on the top of her head. Weishu was just putting a small potato in her mouth, a hint of dissatisfaction from the last bite still on her face.
Beige instinctively reached out and ran a hand through Weishu’s hair, then slid her fingers to the side to tuck a stray strand behind her ear. Having done all this automatically, Beige suddenly came to her senses. She stared at her hand, feeling a bit helpless.
Weishu had always disliked such touches, especially on her head. Beige had often done it when she was a child, a habit she hadn’t broken in over a decade. Today, lost in thought, she had forgotten again. Beige looked at Weishu nervously.
Weishu ate with her cheeks puffed out, her bright almond eyes wide. She didn’t react much. Seeing Beige watching her, her eyes curved into a smile. After swallowing her food, she said, “What’s wrong?”
Beige shook her head, a clear smile spreading across her features. It held a hint of pride and relief. “Nothing. I just remembered something from the past.”
Weishu swallowed the potato. She had, of course, noticed Beige’s affectionate gesture, but the word “past” made her instantly wary. Her old self seemed to have been very unkind to Beige. She didn’t want Beige to dwell on the past. Weishu moved her bowl closer to Beige’s side and changed the subject. “Aren’t you going to work this afternoon?”
Beige shook her head, smiling softly. “I’m not going to the company. I’m staying here with you.”
Weishu didn’t quite believe her. “Really?”
Beige nodded, her tone firm. “Yes. I’m not working. I’m staying with you.”
Weishu looked at her cluttered desk, feeling conflicted. “But… I have so much work.”
Beige went along with it smoothly. “It’s fine. I’ll work with you.”
For office workers, spending precious, non-working time together is a rare gift. When one person makes time only to have the other work overtime, it can feel like a genuine disappointment.
With an apologetic look, Weishu moved even closer to Beige. She rested a hand on Beige’s knee and gently swayed it, the scale in her heart making a difficult choice before finally tipping to the other side. “How about I… put my work on hold? I can always work tonight anyway.” She could wait until Beige was asleep, then get up and work. Sacrificing her own sleep was better than making Beige wait for her while she worked overtime.
Beige’s eyebrows rose in surprise, her lips slightly parted. “Work tonight?” She immediately understood Weishu’s meaning. Her expression turned to disapproval. “You need to sleep at night. You just got out of the hospital; you can’t work so intensely.”
Weishu opened her mouth and said stiffly, “But I want to save my time for you.”
Beige was taken aback. After a moment, she patted Weishu’s hand comfortingly. “I’m right here with you. Be a good girl, finish your meal, take a nap, and when you wake up, I’ll work overtime with you.”
Weishu pouted, still a bit disappointed, but she had no other choice. With a few bites left on her plate, Weishu lowered her head to finish her lunch.
Beige’s gaze was fixed on her, and she gradually fell into a daze.
In the past, even though they lived in the same house, they rarely saw each other. Weishu was always working late and was usually not home before ten. She would get home late at night and sleep in late in the morning, perfectly missing Beige’s work schedule.
Beige could only force herself to stay awake and wait for her to come home. She would say a few words to her and look at her as she changed her shoes at the door. The next day, she would prepare breakfast and wait for her to wake up and eat. Beige didn’t consider herself a workaholic, but there was no one at home, and it was pointless to go back, so she often stayed at the office a little longer. She wanted to actively close the distance between them, but she was afraid of getting in the way of Weishu’s work. Weishu cared a lot about her studio, and Beige didn’t want to hear her mercilessly reject her and give up her plans.
That’s why when she heard what Weishu just said, her heart was filled not just with surprise, but also with an undeniable thrill. Could it be that they would have more time to themselves from now on? A colorful bubble rose in her heart, a little figure flying on a large pink bubble, ready to take off. Luckily, the logical side of her was on constant alert. It pulled a pin from beneath its bottom and popped the bubble with a swift hand. Beige suppressed the mix of emotions and let out a long breath.
After lunch, Beige took the plate downstairs, then came back up with a cup of hot cocoa and a cup of coffee for Weishu to rest in the bedroom.
“I want coffee,” Weishu said, staring at the hot cocoa in front of her. Her eyes flicked toward the coffee in Beige’s hand. “Can I have a coffee this afternoon?”
Beige was taken aback. “You should try to avoid caffeine.” Weishu had to be careful with many things because of the mass in her brain. Beige looked at the coffee in her hand, knowing that Weishu was worried about getting sleepy and wanted the coffee to stay alert. Beige immediately took the coffee out and poured it down the drain. When she came back, she was holding another cup of hot cocoa. She was a little annoyed; if Weishu didn’t see the coffee, she wouldn’t crave it.
“Oh,” Weishu sighed, defeated. She reluctantly got into bed to sleep. Once in bed, she grabbed Beige’s wrist. “Stay here with me.”
Beige, who had no intention of leaving, paused. “Okay.”
Weishu didn’t let go of her hand. She rested Beige’s hand against her cheek and fell asleep while still holding her wrist. Weishu’s sleeping face was right there. Her soft, fair cheek rubbed against the back of Beige’s hand, making her heart feel all fluttery. Her breathing was light, and the gentle puffs of air on Beige’s hand sent a faint tingle through her skin.
Getting up so early that morning to make breakfast with her arm in a sling and then rushing to work on projects had exhausted her. She fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow. Beige slowed her breathing, leaned back in the rocking chair, let Weishu hold her hand, and also dozed off, a faint smile on her lips.
When she woke up, Weishu immediately threw herself into work with high efficiency—designing line drawings, coloring, finding elements. When the computer was too difficult to use, she brought in an easel from her art studio and drew by hand.
Beige sat on the sofa nearby, reading documents. They were both busy with their own things, and the atmosphere was harmonious and peaceful. For several days, Weishu was completely immersed in these two designs, spending almost all her time on them except for eating and sleeping. Beige also often came home early and worked by her side, occasionally looking up and seeing each other.
On Thursday night, Beige shut down Weishu’s computer, turned her chair around, and looked down at her calmly. “You’re getting your splint taken off tomorrow morning, and we’re going for a check-up. You need to go to bed early tonight.”
Weishu stared longingly at the computer. “I’m so close to finishing the draft.”
Beige’s face was expressionless, a look of unyielding authority. “You’ve been busy enough these last few days. The projects aren’t urgent. You can do them next week.”
Weishu hesitated for a moment. “Then I’ll just submit it tomorrow.”
Beige watched Weishu go into the bedroom. She only went downstairs after she had washed up and gotten into bed.
Weishu felt a small thrill. She secretly sent a message to Yu Qing from under the covers.
SHU: Awwww, you were right. Beige really does love to take care of me.
Yu Qing sent her a few mushy emoticons and then asked how the designs were going.
SHU: Hehe.
Yu Qing sent several “I’m sorry” and “bowing on my knees” emoticons.
Pet-loving Daji: Forgive a mere mortal like me! Hurry up and tell me!
SHU: You said I was mean to Beige before I lost my memory. But Sun Tu said that whenever I get a design project for Kuangye Company, I do it myself from start to finish. Wuwuwu, I really do love her!
SHU: She’s been watching me work and not letting me stay up late. She just told me to go to bed early so she can take me for a check-up tomorrow. Oh-ho-ho, she loves me too, ahhhh!
Pet-loving Daji: …I’m a little jealous.
SHU: Hehe, for a general design, I couldn’t care less. But for my little Beige, I personally take the lead.
