After I Lost My Memory, My Wife Started To Chase Me - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: Work
Before dinner, Beige returned home and ate with Weishu. At the table, she asked Weishu about her plans for the next three days.
“The studio? Are you going back to work?” Beige thought for a moment, then nodded. “That’s good. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with you staying home alone.”
Weishu chewed on the tip of her chopsticks, filled with worry. “What if I don’t know who they are?”
Beige looked at her, amused. “Your studio doesn’t have a large staff. You’re the boss. Just hold a company-wide meeting and have everyone report on their work for three minutes. That way you’ll get to know them.”
Weishu’s eyes widened. She took the bowl from in front of Beige and personally served her a bowl of chicken soup with Codonopsis and Astragalus. “You really are a clever one.”
Hearing her playful tone, Beige’s eyebrows arched slightly. She gave a concerned warning. “You’re still a patient, you’re still recovering. If anything at work frustrates you, don’t take it to heart. And, leave on time. No late nights, no overtime.”
Weishu murmured “okay,” then paused and asked softly, “Is there anything else you want to tell me?”
Beige took a sip of soup and looked at her. Weishu was tugging at the corner of the tablecloth. Piles of shrimp shells were scattered in front of her. Beige hadn’t let her eat much of it. The main part of the meal was seafood and vegetable noodles. She was staring blankly at the shells, her eyes wandering—a clear sign that she felt insecure.
Beige wiped her hands clean and began typing a message on her phone. “I’ll send you what I know. While I don’t know much about your studio, you built the team yourself. They’re professional and trustworthy.”
Weishu lowered her gaze and gave a quiet “mm-hmm.”
A moment later, Beige sent all the information she had.
“The only person at Shu Color I’ve told about your amnesia is the second-in-command, Sister Qin. She’s ten years older than you and an old-school designer,” Beige said, trying to sound as gentle and soothing as possible. “Don’t be scared, she’s a good person. She was afraid of disturbing you, so she’s only been asking me about you lately.”
Weishu looked up. “She asked you too?”
Beige tilted her head. “Hm?”
Weishu said, “The other day, when I was in the hospital, Yu Qing also contacted you to ask about me.”
Beige froze for a second. “Honey, that’s because your phone was broken and they couldn’t reach you.”
“Is it really not because I’m difficult to get along with?” Weishu’s eyes showed clear suspicion. “Hardly anyone ever messages me on WeChat.”
Aside from group messages from salons, dental clinics, and online shops.
Beige put down her chopsticks and gave Weishu a disapproving look. Aside from being a bit cold to Beige herself, Weishu was always very polite to others. She chose her words carefully. “Why would you think that? You just have a colder personality and don’t like socializing. You spend most of your time alone, so the people who know you rarely bother you.”
Weishu thought to herself, Don’t tell me you’re just seeing a beauty because you love me, but Beige’s words made her feel a little better, and a smile finally appeared on her face. “Then I’ll send Sister Qin a heads-up so I don’t scare her when I show up tomorrow,” Weishu said with a grin.
Beige smiled and nodded. “That’s a good idea.”
After dinner, Weishu went upstairs to rest. With great effort, she filled the bathtub and scrubbed herself clean. Since she’d injured her arm, taking a bath had become extremely difficult. At first, Weishu had considered Beige a stranger, so she wouldn’t let her help. Later, it was because she felt too embarrassed.
Weishu stared blankly at the bathtub. As a person with amnesia, she had the right to be spoiled by Beige, the right to ask for her care, but she didn’t have the right to hear stories about her past. She wondered when Beige would finally be honest with her.
…
Shu Color Studio was a little far from the city center, but it had a great location with a subway station right outside and a shopping mall just a short walk away. Just a kilometer away were mixed-use residential and commercial apartments, where most of the staff rented places, enjoying an employee discount.
Weishu took a taxi to Shu Color. The driver, familiar with the area, dropped her off right outside the mall. “You can just walk through the mall. I’ll drop you off here.”
Weishu nodded. Although she had no idea how or where to go, she dutifully walked around the mall. Fortunately, the Shu Color Studio sign was very noticeable, with a gray-blue background and a minimalist, artistic logo. It was low-key but with a sense of class, and it was so similar to her past design style that it was easy to spot.
At the bar-height table outside the door, a woman with large, wavy hair sat with her back to her. She was wearing a clay-pink, cinched-waist dress and rhinestone high heels. She was holding a cup of coffee and waiting for someone. Weishu compared her to the background picture in Kong Qin’s WeChat Moments and mumbled, “Sister Qin?”
Kong Qin shook her head, her long hair sweeping to the side and revealing a stunningly glamorous face. A thought suddenly bloomed in Weishu’s mind: She is amazing. Weishu subconsciously thought of Beige’s face. Both of them were strikingly beautiful women, but Beige, having read many books, had an inherent scholarly elegance. The way she spoke and acted was refined, and her气质—the unique quality of her presence—was a more captivating blend. Kong Qin, on the other hand, was the picture of unadulterated glamour. And being older than both of them, she exuded a mature charm. The flavor in her eyes was unique and just as eye-catching.
When Kong Qin saw her, a look of surprise and a smile appeared in her eyes. She hopped down from her high heels and opened her arms, ready to embrace her. “Welcome back!”
Weishu was infected by her warmth and couldn’t help but smile, giving her a hug in return.
Kong Qin pinched her shoulder, then lifted her right arm to examine it. She then spun her around and quickly stepped back.
Weishu was confused.
Kong Qin waited for a few seconds. Seeing that Weishu’s expression was unchanged, only with a hint of confusion, her own heart suddenly felt a mix of complex emotions and emotion.
“You really have amnesia,” Kong Qin said, hesitating for a moment before stepping forward and ruffling her head. “You’re not mad about being touched like this?”
Weishu flinched. Kong Qin’s face was right next to hers, with her red lips and foxy eyes and high nose. She smelled of a pleasant perfume. It was hard not to blush.
Then, Kong Qin’s face took on a look like the sun had risen in the west. She pointed at Weishu’s face and asked, “You actually blush?”
Weishu was speechless.
Kong Qin looked at Weishu from head to toe as if she were a rare treasure. After she was satisfied with her examination, she led her inside.
Inside, many people were already watching. Kong Qin roared, “What are you looking at? Get back to work! Everyone, meet in the conference room on the second floor in an hour for a company-wide meeting.” All the employees collectively shrank their necks.
Weishu was momentarily stunned. “Sister Qin, how did you know I wanted to have a meeting?”
Kong Qin led her up the stairs without looking back. “I’m just helping you get to know everyone. If you don’t want a meeting, that’s fine too. I can have them report on their work to you one by one, or I can print out a staff roster for you to look at their photos. You have to get to know them, right?”
Weishu nodded and said softly, “I do want a meeting.”
Kong Qin turned back to look at her, her long hair sweeping as her high heels clacked up the stairs. Weishu didn’t know why her mood seemed to be getting even better.
As she entered the studio, Weishu felt an inexplicable comfort seeing the art and design everywhere. It felt like a missing piece of her had been filled in perfectly. The exquisite decor, two floors, a three-hundred-square-meter area, and dozens of employees.
Weishu walked along, as if she were admiring the place, but also deep in thought. This was her business, the people she employed, the brand she had created. At that moment, Weishu’s own bl00d flowed accurately in her veins for the first time. The feeling was vivid and hot. She felt truly connected to this society and this world.
