After I Lost My Memory, My Wife Started To Chase Me - Chapter 27.2
Chapter 27.2: Yu Qing
Sonsong was a lizard that Beige, Yu Qing, and Weishu had bought together during that summer break. Beige’s heart pounded like a drum. For a moment, she had almost believed that Weishu had regained her memory. Her adrenaline had spiked so high that her chest was still throbbing.
“So that’s it,” Beige said, wiping a bead of sweat from her forehead and pulling the car into a parking space. She couldn’t tell if she was happy or sad about Weishu not having her memory back, but she had to admit, she was relieved. If Weishu had regained her memory now, Beige wouldn’t know how to face her.
“Golden hamsters don’t have long lives to begin with. Is this the third one she’s seen to its end?” Beige asked naturally, after she had calmed down.
“I don’t know about that. Yu Qing is trying to challenge the lifespan of a hamster. She hasn’t had one live for more than four years yet, but this one was different. It was the prettiest one, with curly hair, and it only lived for a year and a half before it died.” Weishu felt a little sad talking about it. If you like to keep cats or dogs, they can stay with you for over a decade. But Yu Qing liked hamsters. These small pets were destined to not live for long. Every few years, she had to watch them die of old age. Parting with them was a huge test of her psychological endurance.
Beige nodded in understanding. “Let’s stick to raising just Ding-Dong.”
Weishu was still a little shaken. “Yeah, just Ding-Dong. We’re not having a second baby.”
The plane landed, and the arrival gate was packed with people waiting to pick up their loved ones. Weishu stood in the crowd, holding up the colorful lizard sign, instantly becoming the most eye-catching person there. The lizard was so lifelike, and the colors were used in an unconventional way. In short, it was very cool and flashy, so much so that Yu Qing saw it in a flash and ran straight toward them.
“Babe!” Yu Qing abandoned her suitcase and spread her arms wide, rushing toward Weishu like a fat goose.
Beige sighed and stepped forward to stop Yu Qing’s wobbly suitcase as it zigzagged and almost fell over. She grabbed the handle. When she turned around, Weishu had already been picked up and spun around three times in the air by the five-foot-seven Yu Qing, who ended it with a big “mwah” kiss on Weishu’s cheek.
Beige’s face immediately fell.
After years of not seeing her, Yu Qing was still so feisty.
“She has a hurt arm! Let go of her!” Beige said, raising her voice.
Yu Qing ignored her and continued to spin.
“Your luggage,” Beige said. She let go of the suitcase, pulled Weishu out of Yu Qing’s arms, snatched the cardboard sign from her hand, and tossed it to Yu Qing, saying in a cold voice, “Get it yourself.”
Yu Qing’s personality was different from Weishu’s. She was the type to fight back fiercely, so Beige’s cold face didn’t affect her at all. Yu Qing started with her indirect attack, asking Weishu, “My luggage is so heavy. Can we carry it together?”
Weishu didn’t answer. Beige stepped forward, blocked Yu Qing, and lifted her chin. “Her arm isn’t healed yet. Don’t you have hands yourself?”
Yu Qing finally looked at Beige directly, sizing her up. “It’s been seven or eight years. CEO Bei, you’re getting more and more intimidating. I’m just catching up with my girlfriend. Can you give us some privacy?”
Beige sneered. “Does Weishu even want to talk to you?”
Yu Qing turned to Weishu. Weishu, who was unfamiliar with her best friend due to her amnesia, was hiding behind Beige, her head down, holding her arm. She looked a little at a loss. Yu Qing felt an arrow pierce her heart.
“It’s me, Yu Qing! Don’t you remember me!” Yu Qing dramatically held out her arms to Weishu, like Er-Kang from a Chinese TV show. But Beige slapped her hands away halfway. In the past, when Weishu and Yu Qing were close, they would ignore Beige and show their affection for each other. Beige had nothing to say then.
But now, Yu Qing was teasing Weishu right under her nose, and Weishu looked uncomfortable. Of course, Beige had to take this opportunity to vent her frustration… or rather, to speak out for justice.
Yu Qing’s glare at Beige became even more intense. There was a thick scent of gunpowder between the two of them.
Weishu said softly from behind Beige, “Let’s just go home first.”
“Of course.”
“Okay.”
Beige and Yu Qing said at the same time. Beige couldn’t help but remind her, “We’re going to my house.”
Yu Qing jabbed at her. “Look at you, all smug and pleased with yourself.”
Weishu’s voice suddenly rose. “I said, let’s go home!”
Both of them turned to look at Weishu. Weishu was glaring at them, especially at Beige. “Stop showing off your affection in front of me.” This wasn’t the first time these two had shown this kind of familiarity and intimacy in front of her. Was this the charm of being best friends?
Damn it, why didn’t she remember anything? It was so awkward not being able to join in and just watching them bicker! When will I finally remember everything!
When Beige heard Weishu’s absurd accusation, her face turned as ugly as if she had eaten a hundred catties of bitter gourd. She pointed at Yu Qing, about to explain. For goodness sake, the only person she had ever loved was Weishu. She would never flirt with anyone else!
The reason she was so confrontational with Yu Qing was that Yu Qing had unilaterally disliked Beige ever since Weishu returned to the country. She felt that Beige had stolen her best friend and tricked her into coming back. Speaking of which, Beige was still mad at Yu Qing for taking Weishu away for four years. So the two of them had a bad relationship. They could talk on the phone just fine, but they couldn’t help but argue when they met, especially when Weishu was there. So, when Weishu misunderstood them, it wasn’t just Beige who was furious, even Yu Qing blew up.
Yu Qing’s reaction was dramatic. She jumped back away from them, her face on guard. “Babe, how many times have I told you, I don’t like women.”
Weishu walked around the two of them and walked toward the parking lot with a blank expression. “Heh, don’t explain. I’m angry.”
Beige quickly followed her. Yu Qing carried her suitcase and ran after them. After a few steps, she suddenly turned back, picked up the flashy colorful lizard sign, and took it with her.
The two friends hadn’t seen each other in a long time, so Yu Qing naturally had a lot to say. Weishu was not the type to hold a grudge. She forgot about it in a few minutes and started chatting with Yu Qing excitedly.
“There’s a pet fair next week. There will be so many pets. If you have time, you should go. They’re all very soft and fluffy. I also brought a fluffy one to show the event organizers,” Yu Qing said in the car, gesturing wildly from the back seat as she talked to Weishu.
Weishu blinked. She went through all of Yu Qing’s weird pets in her mind and said suspiciously, “Did you check your ferret as luggage? I have to check our country’s laws to see if it’s illegal to own one.”
“It’s not that,” Yu Qing said with a smile. “It’s an Anubis.”
Weishu was surprised. “Don’t you look down on those kinds of mainstream pets?”
Yu Qing rolled her eyes. “Is an Anubis mainstream?”
“But it’s still a cat.”
“You make it sound like I have a pet hierarchy.”
“Don’t you?”
Beige, who was being ignored, cleared her throat and turned on the music, interrupting their conversation. “Where to next, ladies?”
“To the mall first. I need to buy some clothes,” Yu Qing said, leaning over the back of the seat to talk to Beige.
Weishu leaned over the other side of the seat, resting her head on Beige’s cheek. “Let’s go to the mall up ahead. The clothes are all pretty much the same anyway.”
Beige naturally agreed. The two of them stopped talking, and Weishu finally had a chance to look at Yu Qing. Compared to her video calls, Yu Qing looked thinner in person and more energetic. She looked much more normal than the gloomy, “dramaqueen” she seemed to be in the videos. To be honest, Yu Qing was one of the few people Weishu had met who had a natural “feminine charm.” She wasn’t like Kong Qin, who had a mature look. Yu Qing had a hot body, similar to girls in Europe and America. She had a thin waist, round hips and thighs, and a large chest. A sweatshirt would make her look fat, but a tight dress would show off her figure.
Weishu didn’t understand. “The clothes you’re wearing look fine. What are you going to buy?”
Yu Qing tugged at her sweatshirt and jeans. “These are some of the few decent clothes I have. In Europe, I don’t really wear clothes. As you would say, I just cover myself with a piece of cloth.”
“You just go out in a tank top and shorts?” Weishu recalled Yu Qing’s outfits at home. Maybe people were more open there, and the climate was suitable. Yu Qing’s closet was full of clothes that didn’t use much fabric.
However, Weishu was a little worried. It was fine to wear these clothes at home, but what about going out? Wouldn’t she get followed? She had heard that the public security abroad wasn’t as good as in China.
“I usually don’t go out by myself,” Yu Qing said casually.
Weishu nodded. “Oh, you go out with someone. That’s safer.”
Beige was a little nosy. She turned her head and asked, “Who do you go with?”
Yu Qing gave a fake smile. “Guess.”
Weishu’s ears perked up. “Do you have a girlfriend?”
“…Weishu, this is my last warning. I don’t like women.” Yu Qing shouted.
Weishu’s face was full of disbelief. It wasn’t because she was a lesbian and thought everyone else was. Weishu didn’t know why, but she always subconsciously felt that Yu Qing liked women. Maybe this was what they called “gaydar?” Weishu pouted and was too lazy to argue. Homophobia means they’re in the closet. She would just wait and see. “So who is it?”
Yu Qing brushed a strand of hair from her forehead. “Of course, it’s me and my Sonsong, or Grandpa, when we go out.” Grandpa was her ferret.
Beige and Weishu exchanged a glance in the rearview mirror, seeing the same speechless expression in each other’s eyes. In that instant, they could almost picture the scene. A voluptuous woman with a hot body, wearing a tank top and shorts, a lizard on her shoulder, and a ferret at her feet. A boss on the street, and everyone getting out of her way.
It had to be her. A Daji of pet-keeping.
Along the way, the three of them bickered and finally arrived at the mall. Yu Qing’s Mandarin was terrible. When she wanted to express something, she would always use English words to “precisely express” it. Fortunately, the salespeople in the mall understood English. Yu Qing shopped from the first floor to the sixth floor. Weishu and Beige accompanied her at first, but they were so tired that they went to the basement to eat. Only then did Yu Qing end her shopping trip.
Just as Yu Qing found them, sat down, and was about to put a wrap in her mouth, a surprised voice sounded from their side.
“Qingqing? You’re back in the country?”
