After I Lost My Memory, My Wife Started To Chase Me - Chapter 30.2
Chapter 30.2: Drunk
Beige’s voice was firm. “Uncle, a big sister is like a mother. You can explain it yourself.”
She looked down at her phone again. Two hours had passed, and Weishu still hadn’t replied. Beige thought that she smelled too much like alcohol and going back too early would make people dislike her, so she asked Weishu where they were, but neither Weishu nor Yu Qing replied. This was starting to make her a little anxious.
“Fine. So where are you going now?” Zhou Shan asked.
Beige frowned. “I’ll go back to the company. I’ll drop you off first.”
Just then, a “plop” sounded beside them. Mr. Yang stopped, and the manager next to him also looked over. The sound came from right next to them. Beige immediately looked down. She saw someone hidden under the table of the booth. They had just slid off the chair and fallen into the sofa. Now, hurt from the fall, they let out a few whimpering sounds of protest.
The manager, seeing that it was the person who had let her have the wine, took a few steps forward and said to Beige, “She’s the one who gave me the wine. I’ll take care of her.”
Beige nodded, just about to walk out with Zhou Shan when the person in the skirt poked their head out from under the table. They looked at Beige dazedly, then shifted to move toward her.
“Beige? Did you come to pick me up? Hehe…”
Beige’s body stiffened. She looked at the person who had fallen, unable to believe her eyes. “Xiao Shu? What are you doing here?”
Weishu propped herself up on the floor. She had no energy. She just looked at Beige and laughed, her voice sticky and soft like a piece of freshly made malt candy. “I came to drown my sorrows with alcohol.”
Yu Qing was a little drunk too. She had just woken up and saw this scene. She couldn’t bear to watch and said, “Weishu, get up.”
Weishu was selectively deaf. She only heard Beige’s words, and no one else’s.
Beige pursed her lips tightly. She half-squatted in front of her, pulling on her skirt to cover her better, and reached out her hand. “Don’t sit on the floor. It’s cold.”
Weishu tilted her head and looked at Beige for a while, her mind already unclear. Her heart felt a little heavy, with an inexpressible sadness. She really, really loved the person in front of her. But why did everyone say that she had hurt her? She tried so hard to be good to Beige. She wanted to give her everything and had even started to hate her past self and reject her past.
But those test reports, the full box of medicine, and the doctor’s words that were like a devil’s voice, they lingered in her mind like a ghost. She had hidden all of that past and all of her old wounds. No one knew, and now even she had forgotten.
I forgot myself. What do I do?
A single tear of sorrow fell from Weishu’s eye. She said stubbornly, “I don’t want to get up.”
Beige looked at her wrinkled skirt and the cold marble floor. She bent down to pick her up, but Weishu, being stubborn, wasn’t cooperative in her arms. She struggled for a long time and just wouldn’t get up. Beige, worried about her injured arm, had no choice but to put her back down.
The commotion was big. Everyone around them had already looked over. Zhou Shan’s eyes were practically popping out of their sockets in utter surprise. The manager stood outside, not knowing how to intervene. Mr. Yang put his hands in his pockets, watching the show.
“North Zong, is this…?”
Beige didn’t turn her head. Her gaze was fixed on Weishu. Her tone was emotionless. “My little one got drunk. I apologize for the spectacle.”
Weishu stared at the floor, not saying a word. Her cheeks were flushed with a drunken blush. A few crystalline tears still clung to her eyelashes, and her eyes were red, making her look incredibly pitiful. Seeing her like this, how could Beige still be angry? She sighed, shook the hand that Weishu had twisted during her struggle, and looked down at her. Her voice was so gentle it could drip water. “What do I have to do to get you to get up?”
Beige’s coaxing was too gentle. Her voice was already beautiful, and now it was like a zither string being plucked, vibrating beside Weishu’s ear, making her heart feel numb. Her eyes grew redder. She was doing it again. Weishu looked at her, every cell in her body felt like it was soaking in warm water, clamoring to hide in her arms and act spoiled.
“I need kisses and hugs to get up.”
Yu Qing covered her face with one hand, unable to watch. Zhou Shan looked thoughtful, his gaze fixed on Weishu with a suspicious look. The manager’s smile was frozen at the corners of her mouth. Mr. Yang had sobered up and was excited, enjoying the show.
Weishu didn’t care about her own dignity. At this moment, her eyes were only on the person in front of her. She wanted her to coax her, to hold her, and to heal her wounds. But to her surprise, Beige didn’t react much. She just paused for a moment after hearing the demand. She moved Weishu’s hair aside, touched her red eyes, and affectionately kissed her forehead.
“Should I pick you up?”
Weishu touched her forehead and didn’t say anything. Beige reached under her knees and lifted her up in a princess carry. This time, Weishu didn’t resist. As if she smelled a familiar scent, she nestled obediently in Beige’s arms.
Beige looked at Yu Qing and said, “Aren’t you coming?” Yu Qing averted her gaze and followed behind.
The manager hesitated to follow but couldn’t help but ask a question as Beige got into the car. “Senior, is this…?” Is this the person you’ve been chasing for so many years? Your moonlight? Your cinnabar mole? A sweet and sensible girl?
Beige’s expression was calm. She nodded. “Thank you for your help tonight. We’ll find a chance to get dinner sometime.”
The manager’s gaze immediately became more complicated, with a hint of pity.
“Who are you going to have dinner with?” Weishu threw herself onto Beige’s waist from the back. Half of her head peeked out. Her wet eyes glared at the manager, and she threatened in a soft voice, “No.”
Beige patted her hand helplessly. “Okay, I won’t go.”
The manager laughed drily. “Alright, you two take care.”
Weishu was much more well-behaved after getting into the car. She wasn’t loud or noisy, but she wouldn’t let go of Beige. She was lying on the back seat holding onto Beige’s waist and wouldn’t sit up properly. Beige wasn’t in the mood to lecture her. She kept asking Yu Qing how much they had drunk today.
“She really only drank half a bottle of plum wine,” Yu Qing felt like the snow in July was about to bury her. She was wronged to death. “I drank a bottle and a half, plus two cocktails. See? I really didn’t force your girlfriend to drink.”
Beige’s face was in the shadows. Her tone was not good, suppressing her anger. “She doesn’t know better, but don’t you? You can’t drink at home, so why did you have to come to a place like this? And you know how bad her tolerance is. How could you go along with her nonsense?”
Yu Qing pointed at herself, then turned her finger and pointed at Weishu. “My dear, it was her! Her, her, her! The treasure in your arms! She was the one who encouraged me to come! I’m only two years older than her. I’m not a kid. As adults, we’re responsible for our own actions!”
Beige was furious but now had to calm down. The drinking was probably Weishu’s idea, so she couldn’t blame Yu Qing.
Zhou Shan, who was sitting in the passenger seat, looked back several times. Hearing this, he couldn’t help but interject. “Xiao Ge, is this Xiao Shu?” Zhou Shan naturally knew that Beige had a childhood sweetheart she still longed for. He just never expected to meet her for the first time in a place like this. The lighting in Night Color was poor, and the light in the car was dim, so it wasn’t until Weishu had calmed down and her entire face was visible that Zhou Shan recognized her.
Beige nodded. “It’s her. Uncle, I’ll drop her off at home first, then take you back.”
Zhou Shan agreed and continued to look at Weishu. The more he looked, the more he felt like he had seen her somewhere before. He frowned unconsciously.
“Uncle, what are you looking at?” Zhou Shan’s gaze was not hidden at all. Beige was a little confused.
Zhou Shan hesitated to speak. “I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before.”
Beige thought for a moment. “Online? Her studio has social media accounts, and she posts videos.”
Zhou Shan didn’t nod. “No. It was many years ago.”
This surprised Beige. Zhou Shan had always lived in their hometown, Yu City. Beige only met Weishu because her mother, Zhou Wei, came to work in Jin City and brought Beige with her. During that time, Zhou Shan never came to Jin City. A few years later, Beige and Zhou Wei went back to Yu City, and it was only in recent years that they came back to Jin City.
Why would Zhou Shan say he saw her many years ago?
“Where did you see her? How are you so sure it was her?” Beige asked.
Zhou Shan looked at Weishu’s face, thinking carefully. “It must be her. Her features haven’t changed much. She’s just taller. It was about ten years ago. A few years after you came back to Yu City. I think it was my second or third year of high school. I saw her outside our home.”
Beige felt as if she had been hit over the head with a club. She looked at Zhou Shan in disbelief.
Beige’s voice trembled. “Uncle, are you sure? Are you sure…?”
Zhou Shan frowned, recalling. The more he spoke, the more certain he became. “I’m sure. I have a good memory for people. She came several times. Every time she came, your mom wasn’t very happy.”
Beige remained silent for a long time. She was like a statue, frozen in place, her expression blank. Her memory was thrown back to those years. Being forced to return to her hometown, she longed for Weishu but couldn’t see her. She heard that the Wei family was in trouble and tried to find Weishu but couldn’t. If what Zhou Shan said was true, it would have been during her senior year of high school. The only time she didn’t go home was during the last six months of her senior year when she lived at school. That was exactly when the Wei family’s incident happened.
Zhou Shan watched Beige’s face. He suddenly realized he might have said something wrong. “Xiao Ge, did something happen when she came looking for you back then?”
Beige’s face was ashen. She squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth. “Thank you, Uncle. I’ll ask my mom about the rest myself.”
Yu Qing, who had been listening to all of this, grew more and more serious. “What does he mean? When Weishu’s family was in trouble back then, she came to find you? And you didn’t know?”
Beige didn’t say anything.
Yu Qing was about to explode. “You said you didn’t have any news of her!”
Beige gritted her teeth, holding back her anger. She said in a low voice, “I don’t know either.”
Yu Qing threw a pillow at Beige. “Then go ask! She’s like a clam. You can’t pry her open. Who knows what she went through back then? And what’s this about your mom not being happy every time? What did your mom say to her?”
Beige caught the pillow and threw it back. Her voice involuntarily rose. “I said I don’t know!”
Weishu, caught between two people whose voices were getting louder, was scared. She covered her ears and curled up into a ball. Beige was the first to notice her distress. She immediately lowered her voice and gently patted her back. “Don’t be scared. It’s okay. You go back to sleep.”
Yu Qing wanted to ask more, but seeing Weishu like that, she could only grit her teeth in frustration. She looked out the window and didn’t say another word for the rest of the ride.
