After I Lost My Memory, My Wife Started To Chase Me - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: Live Broadcast
It was a bright and sunny Monday morning at Shu Se Studio. Weishu stepped into the second-floor office at exactly 9:30 AM. As she passed her own office, she turned, clasped her hands behind her back, and knocked on Kong Qin’s door.
“Sister Qin?”
The door to Kong Qin’s office was ajar. A voice from inside said, “Come in.”
Weishu walked in with a big smile. When she met Kong Qin’s gaze, her smile became even more mischievous. Kong Qin was drawing, holding a pencil and sketching with one hand. When she saw Weishu come in, she pointed her pencil at her. “What’s in your hands?”
Weishu brought out the item from behind her back, presenting it to Kong Qin like an offering. She grinned and sat down beside her. “Your favorite cake.” This cake shop was for private orders and required an advance reservation. The ingredients were exquisite, and the flavor was unique. People who liked it often craved it. Kong Qin frequently stood in line to buy one.
“Where did you find out what I like?” Kong Qin smiled when she saw the cake.
Weishu twirled a curl of her hair with her finger. “I have it noted in my memo.” She had a dozen or so memos on her phone, some about Kong Qin and some about Beige. She hadn’t had time to look through them in detail; most were very trivial things. A few days ago, after her afternoon nap, a few numbers suddenly popped into her head. With those numbers, she unlocked the password to her memos. Now, only the password to one photo album remained unlocked. Weishu had a feeling that as the tumor in her head gradually absorbed, she would eventually remember the album’s password.
Kong Qin’s eyes widened in surprise. “I’m honored.” She wasn’t too shocked. Even before Weishu lost her memory, she rarely showed her emotions directly by giving gifts, but she would silently remember everyone’s preferences. If this were the old Weishu, she would have placed the cake on her desk while Kong Qin was downstairs, leaving her own coffee cup at the same time. Kong Qin made excellent coffee. After seeing the cake, she would instinctively make Weishu a cup and send it over. In this way, neither of them had to say much, but they were true friends who understood each other.
“Wait,” Weishu suddenly frowned, her nose twitching. “Why do I smell almond cream?”
Kong Qin looked at her silently.
Weishu stood up. She had smelled this scent when she picked up the cake at the shop. The rich almond cream scent was too tempting. She had even asked the owner if there was any left, and the owner said that this one was the most popular and had all been pre-ordered.
Weishu’s gaze slowly moved, following the display cabinet by the door, to the coffee machine in the corner, and then to the bar counter by the window. Her eyes lit up.
“Who bought this?”
Weishu walked over and picked up a small cake from the side table by the counter. The table was full of random items, so she hadn’t noticed it at first. The small cake was undoubtedly the most popular one in the shop, and a corner of it was missing. Someone had clearly eaten some.
Kong Qin said helplessly, “Your nose is so good. It’s a waste for you to be an artist.”
Weishu turned and scrutinized her. She thought for a few seconds, then said thoughtfully, “Tell me, was it Yu Qing?”
Kong Qin didn’t expect her to say Yu Qing’s name directly. A hint of hesitation flashed in her eyes. It was that hesitation that made Weishu immediately lock onto her target and sit back down, looking excited.
“It was her, wasn’t it?” Weishu said. “She went to have dinner with you last week, and she was floating all day when she came back. I knew something was up between you two.”
Kong Qin sighed helplessly. The pencil twirled between her middle and ring fingers, perfectly matching her speechless mood.
“There’s nothing going on,” Kong Qin said softly, looking at the cake. “She’s just being childish. Why are you joining in?”
Weishu blinked and said earnestly, “She’s not being childish. Yu Qing is older than me. She’s not a kid.”
Kong Qin didn’t say anything. From her expression, it was clear that she didn’t take it seriously. She was thirty-five this year, a full ten years older than Weishu. She looked at Weishu, Yu Qing, and even Beige like they were all children. On top of that, her personality was more mature than others, so it was even more impossible for her to take Yu Qing’s declarations of love seriously.
Since Yu Qing was Weishu’s best friend, Kong Qin couldn’t bring herself to say anything bad about her. She changed the subject. “Did you bring me a cake for a reason?”
“Oh, right,” Weishu said, finally remembering her purpose. She quickly pulled up a photo on her phone. “This is a landmark building in a small European town. The top has a seven-colored spire. The town is called Amelia. Does that ring a bell?”
Kong Qin slowly repeated the name of the town. “Amelia?” The name sounded unfamiliar. She had never heard of it. But when Kong Qin saw the photo, her first thought was that it was very beautiful. If she had seen it before, she would definitely remember it.
“I feel like it’s familiar, but I don’t know where I saw it. You have a lot of connections. Can you help me find out?”
Kong Qin nodded. This was a small matter. “Of course.”
As she said that, Kong Qin remembered something and said, “Last time, you made a brief appearance during the shop’s live stream, and we gained a lot of new followers. It’s the age of the internet now. You should also live stream on the Shu Se account to get some traffic.”
Weishu nodded honestly. “Okay.”
With Kong Qin’s help, Weishu temporarily put her worries aside. She had work to do in her office, so she didn’t bother Kong Qin for long. After sitting for a few minutes, she left. Kong Qin sent the photo to her computer to adjust the clarity and color. She sent it to a few friends and printed a color copy.
She stared at the printed photo for a long time, finally getting a clear idea. From the composition, the photo was taken from the entrance of the town, with some cluttered things on both sides. It didn’t look like it was taken by a professional photographer. It seemed like it was taken casually by an ordinary person. As for why it was beautiful, it was probably because the seven-colored spire and the blue sky were beautiful in themselves.
“What are you looking at?”
A cheerful voice interrupted her thoughts. Yu Qing didn’t knock. She pushed the door open without a hint of awkwardness. After she came in, she went directly to Kong Qin and looked at the photo on the desk.
Kong Qin subconsciously wanted to put it away, but she felt that would be too deliberate. She sat up straight, her arms naturally crossed over the photo, vaguely blocking it.
“Why are you back?” Kong Qin said. “Didn’t you go to the pet expo?”
Yu Qing waved her hand, her eyes constantly shifting to the area around the photo that Kong Qin was blocking. “The pet expo is three days long. I didn’t see any pets I wanted to see today… Did Weishu give you that photo you’re covering?”
Kong Qin was slightly stunned. “How did you know?”
Yu Qing’s brows furrowed slightly. She reached her hand under Kong Qin’s elbow. “Can I take a look?”
Kong Qin thought for a moment and lifted her arm. Yu Qing took the photo. The European architecture was obvious. Yu Qing had just seen it on Weishu’s phone a few days ago.
“What did she say to you?” Yu Qing asked hesitantly.
Kong Qin had been observing her expression. Seeing her serious face, she couldn’t help but worry. “Is there something wrong with this photo?”
Yu Qing shook her head, then nodded again. “This is the town of Amelia. Weishu asked me about my experiences in Europe a few days ago,” Yu Qing recalled her expression at the time. “I don’t know if I should tell you. If she asked you to help her find the spire in the photo, it means my guess is right.”
Weishu didn’t know Kong Qin when she went to Europe, so Kong Qin naturally had no reason to doubt Yu Qing’s words. She didn’t deny it.
Yu Qing looked at her and nodded. “I understand. She’s looking for things from her past.”
Kong Qin said softly, “So, what are you worried about?”
Yu Qing sat across from Kong Qin and played with the photo in her hand. She was silent for a while before she spoke. “She suspects she had a psychological or mental illness before and is looking for her treatment records. But in my memory, she never went to the hospital. When she got sick, our family doctor would just give her some medicine. Our family would never let her be sick. I was the one who was too talkative and told her she used to like going to Amelia for a while, especially the orphanage and nursing home there.”
Kong Qin roughly understood the whole thing. “So what you’re saying is that Amelia is a very remote town, and the seven-colored spire in this photo is even more special. Weishu feels that it’s familiar and wants to use this photo to find people she knew at the time to get the information she wants.”
When Kong Qin put it that way, Yu Qing was startled. Weishu’s actions seemed logical and normal, which made Yu Qing’s current worries seem excessive.
Yu Qing said gloomily, “Yeah, I guess.”
Kong Qin comforted her. “This is her own business. You’ve already told her what you know. The rest is for her to find herself.”
Yu Qing was still worried. “I’m afraid she’ll misunderstand something. After all, she has no memory right now. Sometimes, selectively remembering things is worse than not remembering anything at all.”
Kong Qin heard the hidden meaning in her words and didn’t respond. Then, she heard Yu Qing say with some self-deprecation, “She lost her parents and her home when she was twelve or thirteen. She didn’t make many friends when she went abroad. She came back and met Beige, thinking she had found a lifelong support, but unexpectedly, she still got into a car accident and even lost her memory.”
Yu Qing remembered how Beige’s mother had once turned Weishu away, and she was furious.
Kong Qin had heard a little about Weishu’s past. When she heard Yu Qing say this, she knew she was also worried about Weishu. She sighed softly.
“She’s not a child. Give her some private space and let her find things on her own. Maybe she’ll find peace during the process?”
Yu Qing thought deeply and didn’t speak.
Kong Qin said calmly, “You’re just worried and confused. Things can develop in many different ways. You can’t always think of the worst-case scenario. Just take things as they come. It won’t get to the worst possible point.”
This time, Yu Qing nodded. “You’re right. We’re all watching her.” Kong Qin’s comfort made a lot of sense, and Yu Qing’s self-regulating ability was very strong. She knew she couldn’t just jump in and stop Weishu’s investigation. In the end, she had to pretend she didn’t know, so she didn’t think about it anymore.
“I’m going to go find her in a bit. How about we have lunch together?” Yu Qing changed the subject and suggested.
Kong Qin looked at the two pieces of cake. These two pieces were enough for her to eat all day. She was about to say no, when she heard Yu Qing’s voice soften. “Poor little Weishu. Something like this happened to her, and she has no friends to be with her. How sad must that be?”
Kong Qin: … You don’t have to change your face so quickly.
One second, she was worried that her best friend would get hurt. The next, she was shamelessly using her to get what she wanted.
“I have to work.” Kong Qin said to Yu Qing with a straight face. “Do as you please.”
Kong Qin’s refusal was a gentle one, but Yu Qing’s eyes lit up, believing it to be the opposite.
