Lu Hejing still came back very late, but Lin Ning was stubbornly holding on, still awake.
She wanted to thank Ah Jing, and also ask Lu Hejing about the marks on her body.
So, when Lu Hejing returned, she saw Lin Ning still awake, lying on the sofa, reading a magazine.
She hadn’t expected Lin Ning to still be awake, and when she saw her, she felt a rare flicker of panic. But Lu Hejing was Lu Hejing; she quickly composed herself.
“Why aren’t you asleep yet?” Perhaps it was that momentary awkwardness at play, but Lu Hejing greeted her.
*Are you crazy? Why are you greeting her? Aren’t you just giving her another chance?* Lu Hejing wished she could swallow that sentence back.
Lin Ning saw Lu Hejing return, and before she could even get up, she heard Lu Hejing greet her. Her spirits instantly soared. “Ah Jing, you’re back.”
*This little fool is still calling me Ah Jing???*
Lu Hejing quickly lost her earlier warmth, looking down and not meeting Lin Ning’s gaze, merely giving a cold “Mm.”
But the little fool didn’t pick up on Lu Hejing’s perfunctoriness. As she walked towards Lu Hejing, she answered her question, “I was waiting for you.”
The little fool’s voice was full of joy. Lu Hejing unconsciously glanced at her twice, but accidentally caught sight of Lin Ning’s chest. Her feet, which were moving towards the refrigerator, abruptly stopped.
Lin Ning was wearing the pajamas she had bought during her shopping trip today. Large areas of her chest were exposed, and those marks now became exceptionally conspicuous under Lu Hejing’s gaze.
Her mind froze for a moment. She instinctively followed up on Lin Ning’s words, “Waiting for me for what?”
Lin Ning had already reached Lu Hejing’s side. She wanted to hug Lu Hejing but didn’t dare.
“Did you carry me back to my room last night?” Lin Ning asked her, standing next to Lu Hejing.
“Mm.” Lu Hejing’s throat felt tight. The marks on Lin Ning’s body were completely unexpected. She never imagined that so many marks would be left last night.
She had no prior experience, so perhaps her actions were indeed a bit rough.
“Thank you, Ah Jing,” Lin Ning said happily, hearing Lu Hejing admit it.
She knew Lu Hejing was a gentle person! Even when she made her angry, she still carried her back to her room.
She wasn’t fierce at all.
