After Marrying the Cold Omega in Secret (GL, ABO) - Chapter 7
Chu Jin was smiling and chatting as she returned to the villa. After agreeing on the next time to meet with Song Xunyu, they ended the call.
Suddenly, a message popped up on her phone.
It was from her mother.
[You broke up with Yan Sisi?]
There was no greeting. Her mother got straight to the point.
Chu Jin didn’t know where she had gotten the news, but she didn’t bother to hide the truth. She replied honestly.
[Yes.]
Her mother seemed impatient. The moment Chu Jin responded, another message followed.
[Then come home this week for a blind date. The man was introduced by your Aunt Xie.]
[His family is wealthy.]
Chu Jin hated seeing messages like this. Her irritation surged like a wildfire, quickly consuming her good mood.
She replied coldly, [I have money now. I don’t need a blind date.]
But her mother didn’t give up and sent a thirty-second voice message.
Chu Jin never answered her calls and never listened to her voice messages. She quietly tapped the convert-to-text option.
[How much money can you really have? Your younger brother is getting older and will be starting university soon. There will be a lot of expenses. Your grandmother is not in good health and has been hospitalized several times. Your Aunt Xie’s daughter is already engaged to one of the wealthiest families in Linhe City. Can’t you do something to contribute to this family too? You’re not earning much on your own. You might as well get married soon. If you wait too long and end up becoming an unwanted old maid, no one will want you.]
Chu Jin had heard these words too many times. Still, each time she read them, she couldn’t help but feel deeply hurt.
She held back the tightness in her throat and didn’t type another word. Instead, she opened her bank app and transferred five hundred thousand yuan.
Then she closed her phone.
After taking a moment to collect herself, she stepped into the villa and changed her shoes. Before she reached the living room, He Zhu came to greet her.
“President Chi is back,” she said, gesturing toward the dining room.
Chu Jin nodded, went to wash her hands, and then headed toward the dining area.
It was already close to noon. The housekeeper had finished preparing lunch. The table was set with four dishes and one soup.
Today’s meal was Chinese, and all the dishes were Chu Jin’s favorites.
Chi Ye was already seated at the table. It seemed she had been waiting for a while.
After receiving He Zhu’s message, Chi Ye had left the office without saying a word. She had indeed been away for several days, but the real reason she returned was because of Qu Miaoyan.
Just as Yan Sisi had warned her, “If you don’t go back soon, someone’s going to steal your wife.”
Chu Jin did her best to push aside the unpleasant feelings from earlier. She smiled and greeted her, “President Chi.”
Chi Ye had still been feeling frustrated because of Qu Miaoyan, but the moment she saw Chu Jin, she immediately noticed something was off. Concern quietly surfaced in her heart.
“What’s wrong?”
Was her acting really that poor?
She was surprised Chi Ye noticed right away.
“Nothing,” Chu Jin shook her head and sat down across from her. Not wanting to explain further, she changed the subject. “I just went out for a short walk.”
“Alright,” Chi Ye rested her right hand on the table and casually tapped her fingers. Then she asked, “Did you run into any celebrities?”
“How did you know?” Chu Jin looked up at her, a little surprised. She answered honestly, “I bumped into Qu Miaoyan. Do you know her?”
“Yes,” Chi Ye nodded.
“This was my first time meeting such a top-tier celebrity,” Chu Jin said as she accepted a glass of water from the housekeeper, took a sip, and then started talking enthusiastically. “She looks even better in person. She’s super youthful and sweet, and she doesn’t act arrogant at all. No wonder she’s so popular.”
By the time she finished speaking, she noticed that Chi Ye’s expression had grown a little cold.
Chi Ye picked up her chopsticks and said calmly, “Let’s eat.”
“Okay.”
Chu Jin was already quite hungry and immediately began eating.
Over the past few days, she had come to love the housekeeper’s cooking. The flavors matched her tastes perfectly. She ate a lot at every meal and had probably gained some weight because of it.
This was the first time she and Chi Ye had eaten together after being apart for several days. At first, it felt a little awkward, and she was afraid the atmosphere might be too tense.
But once she tasted the food, the rich flavors washed away all her worries. Suddenly, it didn’t matter who was sitting across from her. All she wanted now was to enjoy her meal in peace.
“You should avoid getting too close to Qu Miaoyan.”
Chu Jin was still enjoying her food when she heard Chi Ye speak.
She looked up with her mouth still full, puzzled. “Why?”
Because her mouth was full of rice, her voice sounded slightly muffled.
Could it be that President Chi and Qu Miaoyan had some kind of past? Chu Jin secretly wondered.
After all, Qu Miaoyan was the type of celebrity that many Alphas liked.
With Chi Ye’s cool personality, it wouldn’t be surprising if she was drawn to a lively and sweet girl. And considering the influence of the Chi family, it wouldn’t be hard for her to have met someone like Qu Miaoyan.
Chi Ye noticed Chu Jin’s shifting expression and immediately knew she was imagining things again. She calmly explained, “There’s nothing between me and her.”
Feeling embarrassed to have been caught, Chu Jin gave an awkward smile and quickly made up an excuse. “Of course I knew that. President Chi is nothing if not loyal to Miss Yan.”
Chi Ye didn’t respond to her teasing. She simply repeated her warning, “Qu Miaoyan is a complicated person. Don’t be fooled by her looks.”
Hearing this, Chu Jin’s expression turned serious. In her mind, Chi Ye was not the kind of person who would speak ill of others for no reason. If she said something like this, it probably meant there was truly a problem.
Curiosity surged in Chu Jin like a spring bursting from the ground. Her heart tingled with excitement. This was huge gossip.
She was so intrigued that she stopped eating. Even though there were no outsiders in the house, she still lowered her voice and whispered,
“Does she have some kind of scandal?”
Chi Ye showed no sign of wanting to respond. She calmly picked up a piece of fish and placed it in her bowl, unhurried as ever.
“President Chi, just tell me,” Chu Jin pleaded, blinking her eyes in a playful attempt to act cute. “Please?”
But Chi Ye was completely unmoved.
Chu Jin changed her approach.
“If you won’t tell me, then I guess there’s nothing serious going on. I’ll just chat with her now and then, maybe ask a few questions about acting.” She picked up her phone and pretended to scroll. “Anyway, we’re already connected on WeChat.”
Just as expected, Chi Ye was not the type to give in to softness. She only responded to pressure. Sweet talk did not work, but a little teasing might.
Chi Ye finally put down her chopsticks. Although her face looked serious, she opened her mouth to speak.
“In the entertainment industry, Qu Miaoyan is considered a legend. She’s famous for being what people call a… player.” Chi Ye paused and carefully picked a word from her limited knowledge of online slang.
Chu Jin’s eyes widened in shock.
“Even though she’s an Omega, she has slept with many Alphas. Most of the time, she lures them in with her looks. Some were willing, but not all of them. She never takes responsibility afterward, and she has left behind quite a few messy relationships. But her company has a very strong public relations team, so none of it has ever been exposed.”
Chu Jin had imagined a few possible scandals about Qu Miaoyan, but she never expected something this shocking. She had always looked so sweet and innocent.
What really made Chu Jin pause was the word “unwilling.” That part was vague and disturbing. No one knew exactly what those people had experienced. It felt like something hidden in a very gray area.
Only then did Chu Jin begin to understand.
“So today, I was one of her targets too?”
Chi Ye’s gaze returned to its usual calmness, but this time there was a sharp chill in her eyes.
“Most likely,” she replied softly.
Chu Jin felt a wave of complicated emotions rise in her chest. Thinking back on what happened earlier today, she had believed Qu Miaoyan was a kind and friendly senior. She had no idea the truth would be so different.
This also explained why such a famous celebrity would take the initiative to add an unknown newcomer on WeChat.
Chi Ye noticed the disappointed look in Chu Jin’s eyes. Her own heart grew a little heavy. Her gaze slowly moved to Chu Jin’s left hand.
“You’re not wearing your ring?”
“Huh?” Chu Jin blinked and came back to her senses. She lowered her head and glanced at her bare left hand. “It’s too precious. I didn’t want to damage it.”
She had only been staying home recently, not attending any events or meeting important people. Wearing the ring felt unnecessary, and she was afraid it might get scratched.
But then Chi Ye said,
“If it gets damaged, I’ll buy you a new one.”
Her tone was firm and sincere, as if to say that if Chu Jin ever needed anything, she would provide it without hesitation.
Chu Jin paused, surprised by the quiet warmth in her voice. Something deep inside her was quietly touched.
After saying that, Chi Ye picked up a napkin, wiped the corner of her mouth, and stood up.
Her dark, crystal-clear eyes met Chu Jin’s.
“If I ever catch you not wearing it again, I’ll deduct one million yuan each time.”
With that, she turned and started walking toward the stairs.
Chu Jin quickly stood up and ran after her.
“I’ll go put it on right now.”
The two of them walked upstairs side by side.
Chi Ye’s lips curved slightly. Her usual cold and distant aura was softened by the small smile.
This was the first time Chu Jin had ever seen her smile. She turned her head, smiled too, and teased,
“President Chi, you should smile more often. Otherwise, you come off way too serious. You’ll scare people away.”
“But I didn’t scare you away, did I?”
Chu Jin grinned with pride.
“That’s because I’m not like other people.”
She leaned a little closer, gently brushing her shoulder against Chi Ye’s.
“No matter what happens, I’m staying by your side for the next three years.”
