- Chapter 12 - Be Good and Move In With Me
“I promised you, and I’ll keep that promise. I will give birth to this child safely.”
Even though Lin Yihuan found the whole thing more and more ridiculous the more she thought about it afterward, she truly never intended to go back on her word.
That said, it didn’t mean she wanted to have any more unnecessary contact with Zhou Linze.
She didn’t need Zhou Jifeng to remind her—she already knew very well what he meant.
Zhou Linze was no longer that childish boy who used to tease her.
The Z&L Investment Company he founded overseas was constantly in the business news headlines. Even Lin Yihuan, far away back home, had heard of it.
Just like Zhou Jifeng said—with Zhou Linze’s current wealth and good looks, women who wanted to be with him probably stretched for miles.
She wasn’t naive enough to think she could be one of them.
Right now, all she wanted was to work hard, earn money, and give her mother and little brother a better life.
“Are you sure?” Zhou Linze zeroed in on the flaw in her words. “How can you guarantee that? What are you using as a guarantee?”
“…”
“You have two choices,” he said. “Either be good, pack your things, and move in with me—or I’ll tell everyone what’s going on between us.”
Lin Yihuan’s eyes widened as she frowned. “That wouldn’t be good for you either!”
“That’s not your concern. I’ve done things that hurt myself just to get back at others more than once,” he said with a smirk. “So, choose.”
“…”
What kind of choice was that?
—
After driving away, Zhou Jifeng had no intention of going back to the family home to face another round of scolding. He just drove aimlessly around on his own.
The night breeze was especially cold, cutting against his face like it could slice through skin.
He had no idea how long he’d been driving when he suddenly found himself parked outside the apartment he used to share with Lin Yihuan.
Liyang Bay, Unit 129.
This used to be the place Zhou Jifeng hated coming home to the most.
If it weren’t for his mother’s nightly video check-ins, he would’ve rather lied about working overtime and spent the night at the office.
The day Lin Yihuan was arrested, he immediately moved out of there. So now, the villa only held her things.
The little knickknacks she loved to buy, her neatly folded clothes in the wardrobe, and…
In the bathroom, her toothbrush, her towel, her wooden comb, her hair ties.
Zhou Jifeng’s hand froze for a moment.
Then, suddenly, he threw all of it—every last item—into the trash bin in a rage.
“You ruined my life! And you still pretend you’re innocent!”
But that wasn’t enough. He grabbed her clothes, the stuff in her drawers, even the potted succulents that had dried up from lack of water—and threw everything out.
Until—
He opened the fridge and saw it was full of carefully packaged hangover and stomach-soothing soups that Lin Yihuan had made.
The fire in Zhou Jifeng’s dark eyes was instantly snuffed out, dimming in an instant.
After a long pause, not knowing how to properly heat them, he took one of the bags straight from the fridge and drank it cold.
The familiar taste spread across his tongue—not bitter at all. If anything, there was a hint of sweetness in the aftertaste.
Halfway through the bag, Zhou Jifeng suddenly snapped out of it. Realizing what he was doing, he threw the rest of the soups out too.
“I love Jin Xue. Only Jin Xue! If Lin Yihuan hadn’t chosen me back then, Jin Xue wouldn’t have ended up like that. She wouldn’t have died. We should be living happily together now!”
“Yes, it’s all because of Lin Yihuan. All the nice things she did for me were just to make up for her guilt. How could I soften toward her? I can’t let her off the hook!”
