- Chapter 2 - If You Kill Someone, You Have to Pay with Your Life
Lin Yihuan had never done it before.
So, things didn’t go smoothly.
Her nails dug hard into Zhou Linze’s arm and back, leaving a mess of red marks.
“Lin Yihuan, relax a little!”
She wasn’t the only one driven crazy by this.
Zhou Linze was just as inexperienced—and unfortunately stuck with Lin Yihuan, who was so tense she was practically a corpse!
When everything that held them back was finally broken by reality—something that could never be taken back—
She cried.
Her tear-filled eyes turned red, and the tears kept falling. Zhou Linze kept bending down to kiss them away.
“Do you regret it?”
His voice was rough and low, like it was pouring straight into her ear.
She was in too much pain to speak. All she could do was wrap her arms tightly around his neck and shake her head hard.
“Lin Yihuan, that’s not what I was asking.”
Suddenly—
Outside the Zhou family’s old mansion, the sound of a door unlocking rang out!
Zhou Jifeng was back—with people.
Lin Yihuan’s eyes flew open. She was frozen in panic, her body shaking uncontrollably.
“Mm… f*ck!”
That grunt and curse both came from Zhou Linze.
He’d finished.
But his handsome face was as dark as ink.
He looked down at Lin Yihuan. Thankfully, she didn’t seem to care how long it lasted.
Her small face was flushed red, her breathing quick and uneven. A strand of hair was stuck to her cheek with sweat—she looked exactly like someone who’d just been dragged out of the water.
Zhou Linze pushed himself up, grabbed a dark robe from the side of the bed, and threw it over his shoulders. He walked to the door in a few long strides, then turned his face to look at her again.
“If you want to raise your chances of getting pregnant, lie there for another ten minutes. Then get dressed and come out.”
“But your brother…”
“He wouldn’t dare barge into my room.”
With that, Zhou Linze shut the door and left.
Downstairs in the living room, Zhou Jifeng had already brought in a crowd of people.
When he saw his younger brother suddenly appear, his thick brows furrowed instantly.
“Linze? What are you doing here?!”
Wasn’t he supposed to be living in England? It had already been three years.
“Your divorce is a huge deal. Of course I had to come back.”
Zhou Linze still had his usual roguish smile. He leaned lazily against the sofa, holding a lighter in his hand. He lit a cigarette, took a puff, and said with a smirk:
“Bro, you made such a big fuss—didn’t it ever occur to you… what if she really is innocent?”
“That silly girl liked you for a solid ten years. Just to make you happy, she even gave you the only piece of land her dad left behind—no strings attached.”
But of course, Zhou Jifeng wasn’t in the mood to hear any of that.
His handsome face was filled with anger, and his voice was as cold as ice. “I don’t care! She hurt Jin Xue. I want her dead!”
“Tch. Alright then.”
Zhou Linze blew out a cloud of gray smoke and glanced toward the third floor.
Lin Yihuan was already fully dressed and had been standing there for who knows how long.
She’d heard everything Zhou Jifeng just said.
She used to love his voice—deep, gentle, and classy.
She’d listen to his voice messages over and over again, even saving them to her favorites.
But now, that same voice was saying she had to die.
How ironic.
Lin Yihuan clenched her fists tightly and stepped forward, walking up to the man she had once loved so deeply. She looked straight into his cold, disgusted expression.
“Did you ever trust me?”
All those explanations—just a setup to get her to agree to the divorce.
“Jifeng, just tell me the truth. Did you ever like me? Even for a moment—were you ever moved by me?”
Even now, she couldn’t let go.
Sure, she could cooperate with the police investigation.
But it shouldn’t be Zhou Jifeng who handed her over.
He was her husband.
The man she had loved faithfully for ten years!
Lin Yihuan’s eyes were so bright, it made Zhou Jifeng feel dazed for a second.
He didn’t answer.
After a long pause, he only said sharply, “You killed someone. You have to pay with your life!”
Finally—
The light in Lin Yihuan’s eyes went out.
Completely and forever.
Her shoulders dropped, and her long lashes cast shadows over her eyes.
“Okay.”
“……”
“No need to hold me. I’ll walk on my own.”
She didn’t look at anyone again. She turned and walked straight out of the mansion.
Moments later, the living room was quiet once more.
Zhou Linze’s deep eyes blurred slightly in the haze of smoke. He narrowed them, then put out the cigarette.
The secretary who had been waiting outside came over and asked hesitantly, “Mr. Zhou, didn’t you already…”
“I was afraid Lin Yihuan wasn’t heartbroken enough.”
He looked in the direction she had just walked, the corners of his lips twisting into a mocking smile.
“Who told her to choose my brother back then?”
Back when the Zhou and Lin families lived together in the military compound for over ten years, he was the one who had always stayed by her side, protecting her.
Sure, he had a sharp tongue—but when the two families talked about a marriage alliance, Lin Yihuan had blushed and said she wanted to marry his older brother.
That pissed Zhou Linze off so much that he left the country and didn’t come back for three years—until—
Lin Yihuan got into trouble.
“She deserved it.”
