- Chapter 3 - You Need to Give Me a Title
The first trial verdict came quickly.
The evidence was solid, the circumstances severe.
There was no doubt—Lin Yihuan was sentenced to death, to be carried out immediately.
After a short conversation with her, the defense lawyer calmly stood up and said,
“Your Honor, my client wishes to appeal the verdict and request the death sentence be withdrawn, because… she’s pregnant.”
“Impossible!”
Before the judge could respond, Zhou Jifeng, seated among the victim’s family, blurted out, “Lin Yihuan is lying! We never slept together during our entire marriage—there’s no way she’s pregnant!”
He had expected Lin Yihuan to appeal. He knew she wouldn’t confess easily.
But what he didn’t expect was that she’d dare claim to be pregnant just to fool the legal system!
“Order!”
The judge sternly called for silence, then turned to Lin Yihuan.
“Are you certain you’re pregnant?”
“I’m certain.”
She didn’t glance at Zhou Jifeng even once.
Even with her pale, worn-out face, her voice remained calm and composed—no fear, no guilt, nothing like what you’d expect from a murderer.
“But why did the medical report from your arrest show you weren’t pregnant?”
“Because… I only just found out.”
At that moment, a detention center officer stepped in and handed over a pregnancy confirmation from the hospital.
It clearly stated:
Lin Yihuan — early intrauterine pregnancy, 8+ weeks.
The judge examined it carefully and signaled the clerk to pass it to the prosecution.
Zhou Jifeng snatched it up first.
When his eyes landed on the line at the bottom, he turned to Lin Yihuan in disbelief.
“Whose child is this?!”
“Order!” the judge warned again with a frown.
But Zhou Jifeng had already lost control.
“I’m asking you, Lin Yihuan! Whose child is it?! Just to escape the death penalty, you’d stoop so low as to sleep with some other man?!”
Finally, Lin Yihuan turned to face him.
Her eyes were cold and empty—no light, no love.
“It’s not yours. That’s all that matters.”
“No… no! That’s not possible! Your Honor, she’s lying! Lin Yihuan loved me for ten years. Even though she found out about me and Jin Xue on the day of our divorce, she was arrested immediately after—she wouldn’t have had the chance!”
See?
Zhou Jifeng wasn’t just clever.
He knew exactly how long she’d loved him. He knew how to craft a flawless setup, leaving her with no way out.
If Zhou Linze hadn’t unexpectedly shown up that day, where would she be now?
She didn’t even want to imagine it.
Lin Yihuan suddenly let out a laugh.
A laugh at herself—for being so foolish, so blind in love.
A laugh at how, for all these years, she’d loved the wrong man.
…
After the hearing, by law, Lin Yihuan had the right to request one visitor.
She originally planned to meet her defense lawyer to ask him to investigate Jiang Jin Xue.
But then the guards came and informed her—both Zhou Jifeng and Zhou Linze had requested a meeting.
In the visitation room:
The man wore a dark suit, a white dress shirt, and a neatly knotted tie.
The sharp tailoring perfectly framed his broad shoulders and trim waist—serious and formal.
So different from his usual casual jackets or laid-back outfits. The contrast was striking.
Lin Yihuan stared at him, momentarily stunned. She almost didn’t recognize him.
After all, the man she remembered always had a careless, roguish air about him. And yet, that delicate, absurdly beautiful face made him almost look too pretty to be a man.
She chose to meet with Zhou Linze.
She rejected Zhou Jifeng’s request.
“You’re really pregnant?”
Zhou Linze raised an eyebrow as he sat down, long fingers holding a brown envelope.
“Mm.”
She lowered her eyes and nodded.
She looked like an empty shell—drained of life.
Then, he pulled out two sheets of paper from the envelope, laid them flat on the table.
The bold title at the top stood out clearly—
Marriage Application Form.
“Sign it.”
He handed her a pen.
Lin Yihuan blinked in shock.
Her pale, delicate face finally showed some emotion.
“What… what is this supposed to mean?”
“You need to give me a title,” Zhou Linze replied casually.
As if he were saying it was only natural that she should marry him.
“I… you—you want to help me?”
She looked at him in confusion.
Zhou Linze explained in a calm voice, “Legally, I have no relationship with you. That’s why I couldn’t even get into your court hearing today.”
“If you want me to help investigate, I need a reason. Understand?”
She blinked again, still hesitant to sign.
Zhou Linze’s face immediately darkened. He pulled out another document.
“Don’t want to marry me? Fine. Then sign this adoption agreement—from now on, I’ll be your dad.”
“…”
