- Chapter 7 - He Knew No One Could Protect That Little Fool
The black Cullinan was driving down the road.
Lin Yihuan felt stuffy, so she rolled down the car window.
It had just rained last night in Jing City, and as soon as the fresh air came in, the damp breeze blew through.
It was chillingly cool.
The next second, Zhou Linze quickly rolled the window back up from the driver’s seat.
“Trying to starve my son or freeze him to death?”
“…”
Lin Yihuan glanced at his sharp, delicate profile and suddenly realized something—
Zhou Linze really cared about the child in her belly.
And he always called the baby “my son.”
So he really wanted an heir!
After a brief silence, she spoke in a business-like tone, asking, “Zhou Linze, what if the baby I’m carrying isn’t a boy?”
Would he still want it?
“If it’s a girl, then I’ll have to watch her closely from a young age! So, she won’t end up like her mother—growing up with a love-sick brain, getting bullied so badly she ended up in jail, and still delusional enough to think she’s innocent.”
See? Talking to Zhou Linze was really hard!
Lin Yihuan sighed and rubbed her forehead. She didn’t want to argue for now, even though she was being pushed around.
“Actually… you didn’t have to make such a big deal out of it. If your parents or your brother find out that it was you who leaked the evidence to the media, it’ll hurt feelings.”
“Tch, if I don’t make a big move, do you think you’d be sitting here now?”
Just the complicated procedures alone could take months!
Zhou Linze only wanted Lin Yihuan to see the truth and remember it well. He didn’t want her to suffer inside for real.
“Aren’t you afraid…”
“Afraid.”
He didn’t say the rest.
Of course he was afraid.
When Zhou Linze found out Lin Yihuan was in trouble, only he knew how panic-stricken he was!
There’s no direct flight from Northampton to Jing City. Zhou Linze immediately dropped everything and rushed back to London, not sleeping the whole night, then flew straight back to China.
With Lin Yihuan’s father gone, the Lin family had been gradually falling apart, leaving only her mother and younger brother.
He knew no one could protect that little fool.
…
Zhou Linze didn’t take Lin Yihuan to the Zhou family mansion. Instead, he brought her to a single apartment she had bought before the marriage.
“Take a shower and get a good rest. Call me when you wake up.”
“Okay.”
Lin Yihuan watched his car leave the community, then turn a corner and disappear. Suddenly, she let out a heavy breath.
She unlocked the door and sat on the sofa, touching everything that used to be so familiar. Only then did it feel real!
She was really out of prison.
Cleared of all charges, had the death sentence revoked, and was no longer labeled a murderer.
While in detention, Lin Yihuan had imagined that when this day finally came, she would cry her heart out—
Tearfully, and bitterly.
But now, aside from an unprecedented exhaustion, her eyes were dry. There wasn’t a single tear in sight.
After sitting still for who knows how long, she stiffly stood up and called her unaware mother and younger brother to let them know she was safe, lying that she had been on a business trip for the past two months.
Then she went to shower and to bed.
Lin Yihuan was woken up by a rapid knocking at the door.
“Yihuan! Yihuan, are you there?”
That voice sounded like Liang Fengrong’s.
She was the mother of Zhou Jifeng and Zhou Linze—the mother-in-law of Lin Yihuan.
When the door opened, the worry on Liang Fengrong’s face was obvious.
Seeing Lin Yihuan in person finally made her breathe a sigh of relief.
“Yihuan, I’m so glad you’re okay! I called you but you didn’t pick up. Mom was so worried you might have done something foolish!”
Before Lin Yihuan could say anything, Liang Fengrong suddenly pulled her into a tight hug.
“I’m sorry you’ve been through so much! I really didn’t expect Jifeng to be so stupid! To just throw away his childhood sweetheart and favor that mistress!”
Lin Yihuan was too weak to react quickly. Her thoughts and movements lagged behind.
When she slowly looked up, she realized Liang Fengrong wasn’t alone—behind her stood Zhou Jifeng, with a clear slap mark on the left side of his face.
